Sabah MACC nabs two in RM66,000 bribery case over land applications

Published on: Tue, Jun 17, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a serving civil servant and a retired state official in Sabah for allegedly soliciting and receiving about RM66,000 in bribes to process land applications and conduct lot surveys. Sources said the two male suspects, aged in their 50s and 60s, were detained between 10 and 11 am today while giving statements at the MACC Sabah office.
Advertisement The alleged offences occurred around 2016, despite both individuals having no authority to process land matters or access to the relevant lots. Preliminary investigations revealed the duo received RM54,000 and RM12,000 respectively from multiple individuals in exchange for processing applications under the state land scheme. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. Police hunt masked trio after armed robbery in Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN: Police are intensifying efforts to locate three masked men involved in a robbery at an entertainment outlet here, which left two patrons injured. Hilir Perak district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the incident which occurred on June 15, has gone viral on social media. He said police received a report from a 42-year-old local man working as a security guard at the entertainment premises located on Jalan Changkat Jong at 1.02am on June 15. "The man reported that three masked male suspects, armed with parang and arriving in a Honda vehicle with its licence plates removed, stormed into the premises. "They damaged property inside the premises and stole an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash from the counter," he said in a statement. He added that the suspects also smashed the windows of four vehicles belonging to customers and injured two patrons using parang, both inside and outside the premises. "Initial investigations successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. This suspect has now been placed on the wanted list. "The forensic unit from the Perak Police Headquarters visited the scene and found several pieces of evidence, including traces of blood, two fingerprints, and glass shards. "CCTV footage has also been obtained from the location to assist in the ongoing investigation," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using weapons, and under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to property. If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment of up to 20 years, along with fines and caning. Bakri said police are actively conducting investigations, and efforts to track down all involved suspects are being intensified. "Members of the public with any information are urged to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Hilir Perak Police Station or any nearby police station," he said.

Police hunt for masked men armed with machetes after violent incident in Changkat Jong

IPOH: Police are seeking three masked men armed with machetes, who were seen in a viral video. They were suspected of causing injuries to patrons, damaging items, stealing money and vandalising cars at an entertainment outlet in Changkat Jong near Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged by a 42-year-old local man working as a security guard at the entertainment premises on June 15. 'The complainant said that the three masked male suspects armed with machetes arrived in a car without a license plate number, and stormed into the premises. 'The suspects proceeded to damage items inside the premises and stole a phone belonging to a staff member, along with RM2,000 from the counter. 'Additionally, the suspects smashed the windows of four vehicles belonging to customer, and injuring two patrons using machetes both inside and outside the premises,' he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). ACP Bakri stated that initial investigations have successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a criminal record. He said the forensic unit from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters visited the crime scene and recovered several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints and shards of glass. CCTV footage from the location has also been obtained. 'The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with weapons, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to public property. 'The police are actively investigating and intensifying efforts to track down all individuals involved. New ‘Edisi Siasat 2.0' cannot be accessed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Telegram channel of 'Edisi Siasat 2.0', which was created after the 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' channels were blocked yesterday, is now also inaccessible to users of the platform. A Bernama check of the channel found that a warning displayed, saying 'This channel can't be displayed because it violated local laws (Malaysia)' and all content on the channel had also been deleted. Yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) filed a civil action against two channels on the Telegram platform, namely 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas', rendering the two channels inaccessible on the same evening.
