Harish writes to Uttam, pushes for immediate Apex Council meet to discuss Banakacherla project ‘violations'
HYDERABAD
Stating that the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Project, proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, would be detrimental to Telangana's water interests, senior BRS leader and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao urged Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to impress upon Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting to discuss the alleged violation of the Reorganisation Act 2014.
In a letter to Mr. Reddy on Sunday, Mr. Rao urged government to immediately convene an all-party meeting, besides holding a special session of the State Assembly to arrive at a policy decision on the Banakacherla project.
Pointing out that Telangana will get an additional 157.5 tmc ft of Krishna water as its rightful share, if 80 tmc ft is moved to the Krishna Delta through Polavaram project, he said that Telangana will have the flexibility to use this water for other projects that do not have proper water allocations, such as SLBC, Kalvakurthi, Nettempadu, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi.
'Telangana should seek this additional share of 157.5 tmc ft before the Brijesh Tribunal, discuss with legal experts, and take appropriate action. Engineering experts suggest that Telangana may positively consider the Godavari-Banakacherla link if AP agrees to these rights,' he said.
Meanwhile, he lauded Mr. Reddy's recent letter to Mr. Patil, opposing the project, and urged the State government to prioritise TG interests over politics and assured full support in protecting its water rights.

YSRCP leader accuses TTD of planning to end Veda Parayanam
YSR Congress Party undivided Chittoor district president and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy on Friday alleged that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams management was planning to end Veda Parayanam at the temple and termed it a sacrilege of the highest order. However, the TTD condemned the remarks of Mr. Reddy and said that there was never any plan to end Veda Parayanam. Mr. Reddy at a media conference here on Friday (June 20) also accused a senior Devasthanams official of recently making fun of Veda Parayanam and terming it 'a waste of time'. He questioned how the officials of the temple management, who are required to uphold the Vedic Dharma, could make such irresponsible comments and belittle the age old traditions followed for centuries at the ancient temple. He also accused that the TTD authorities under the new regime were subjecting the priests to harassment by forcing them to undergo physical frisking, a practice that never existed in the past. Making light of TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu's oft-repeated phrase 'Artificial intelligence' to provide quick Darshan to pilgrims, Mr. Reddy said that the devotees were not even allowed into the queue lines to avoid showing rush and thus painting a rosy picture. Responding strongly, the TTD management condemned all the above allegations and also refuted allegation that priests were subjected to physical frisking. The frisking of employees entering and exiting the Parakamani currency counting centre, a long existing practice, was further strengthened by putting in place a Standard Operating Procedure, in view of an incident in 2023.

'Rappa Rappa': Chandrababu Naidu Vs Jagan Reddy Over YSRCP Worker's 'Pushpa 2' Dialogue
Last Updated: The YSRCP worker, who was previously affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), compared opposition leaders to goats being lined up for sacrifice A fresh political storm erupted in Andhra Pradesh on Friday after a YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) supporter invoked the dialogue 'Rappa Rappa" from the Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2, during a recent public meeting, comparing political adversaries to sacrificial animals. The YSRCP worker, who was previously affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), compared opposition leaders to goats being lined up for sacrifice, citing the Gangamma Jatara tradition. He used the line 'Rapa Rapa Narukutham" (we'll chop heads one by one) during Reddy's public rally to symbolise their supposed fate, drawing outrage from the ruling TDP. Defending the remarks, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, 'Even though he was a TDP member, he joined the YSRCP, displaying a sense of regional anger against the government for its failure on promises. He made statements like 'Rappa rappa, like Gangamma Jatara…' meaning what?" He added: 'He meant to say that people are that angry with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, that he has failed them and betrayed them. The anger is such that even a Telugu Desam Party karyakarta jumped to our party and said, 'Just like in Gangamma Jatara, where an animal is sacrificed by beheading, they will behave towards TDP — rappa rappa." 'Is it wrong to use a movie dialogue in a democracy?" Reddy questioned. He further accused the Chief Minister of misrule and claimed the comments were a reflection of people's frustration with the TDP's tenure. 'If there is a dialogue in movies that is a joke, can it be put on a flex banner? Do you think that people are killed in movies and it is okay to kill them outside?" he asked, warning that such language fuels a culture of violence. He continued, 'If a person thinks, 'I will do anything, I will kill my Babai,' who are you to say? What is the trend? What is the message you're trying to send to the public?" — calling Jagan's endorsement of such language deeply irresponsible. 'We have been seeing certain individuals in the state lately behaving like maniacs, making statements such as, 'We will cut off, we will kill, we will behead people.' This is the mindset of criminals," Naidu further said. TDP leader and IT Minister Nara Lokesh also took to social media to condemn the rhetoric. 'Will you slaughter them like sheep, @ysjagan? … Your attitude is very dangerous for democracy," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
