Coronation Street confirms emotional exit story for Daisy Midgeley as fans get first look at her departure and actress hints at next career move

Coronation Street fans have been given their first look at Daisy Midgeley's explosive and highly emotional exit from the soap in a brand new trailer.
Charlotte Jordan originated the role of Rovers Return barmaid Daisy on the ITV soap in November 2020, going on to be a part of a number of hard-hitting storylines.
The actress, 29, won praise for Daisy's horrific stalker ordeal and subsequent acid attack plot, winning the British Soap Award for Best Dramatic Performance in 2023.
But in January, she announced that she was bidding goodbye to the cobbles to 'explore other opportunities'.
Her final scenes as Daisy are set to air next month in a gripping and emotionally charged storyline, with the latest trailer giving viewers their first glimpse at the dramatic farewell.
After a recent whirlwind of drama involving a secret pregnancy, catfishing, and tangled romances, Daisy is ready to embark on a new chapter at the other side of the world, leaving a void in the heart of Weatherfield and devastation in her wake.
Emotions will be running high as step-mum Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews) desperately pleads with her to reconsider her decision.
While a heartfelt conversation with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) will play a crucial role in her final moments on the street.
Discussing her thoughts on Daisy's departure, Charlotte said: 'I think it's very bittersweet for Daisy to be leaving.
'Weatherfield has been her home for a while now and, early on, was giving her all the things she wanted – family, community, stability, people to love more than she perhaps loves herself – but it's also been the source of so much trauma for her.
'I think we've watched her slowly try to pick up the pieces since her stalking storyline, but she's ultimately realised she doesn't need to stay in a place that's caused her so much heartbreak.
'And it's just as well she's running far away to the other side of the planet, as she's left a mountain of destruction and angry people in her wake!'
While reflecting on her own feelings about leaving, she said: 'As for me, I'm feeling really grateful for my years on the show and the people I've gotten to work with.
'Producer Kate has been so supportive about me wanting to go back out into the audition circuit and very generous with Daisy's exit story, as she really wanted to do the character justice.
'And I can't tell you how much fun the other cast members and I had playing out this last hurrah.'
Recalling filming her final scenes, Charlotte joked that she cried so much on her last day she was 'medically dehydrated' and gushed that the crew of Corrie 'made it so special for me'.
She confessed: 'I'm not a big crier. But let me tell you, I cried on and off for about four hours straight.
'My last scene was with the beautiful Rob Mallard, and we were meant to cry in the scene – but we were both dry as a bone. As soon as they yelled our final "cut," we both burst into tears. Typical.
'The Corrie gang made it so special for me. The canteen made me my favourite lunch – which made me cry. The art department drew me a beautiful card – which made me cry.
'I would look over to Channique or Julia or Sal during our last lunch break and see them crying – which made me cry. I think I was medically dehydrated by the end of the day.'
She went on: 'It's a very special building, and I have loved it. And it's just goodbye for now, not goodbye forever.'
Charlotte is set to cash in on her time on the cobbles with a money-spinning job overseas, joining co-star Sally Ann Matthews for the Jenny & Daisy Rovers Return live gigs in Canada.
The pair promise to give audiences tell-all interviews about their time on Corrie and behind-the-scenes secrets.
The gigs cost £40 a head to attend, while fans can also shell out another £60 to pose for photos with the actresses.
She is not the only star to recently leave the show, with fellow stars Sue Cleaver, Sue Devaney, Colson Smith, and Luca Toolan all announcing their departures in the past few months.
It has been reported that up to 75 other members of cast and crew are getting axed in a bid to cut costs amid the soap's alleged cash crisis.
Corrie's financial troubles are said to be the result of a fall in advertising revenue and increased production costs.
While there's been a number of reports about different drastic measures producers have been taking to try and save money, including cutting actors' scenes in the Rovers Return.
Both Corrie and fellow ITV soap Emmerdale run regular set tours in a bid to earn more cash while Weatherfield now has it's own EE shop in a 'product placement' deal.
By contrast, BBC rival EastEnders is still in a healthy financial position thanks to the licence fee and overseas deals.
But sources claim there are concerns over whether Corrie - which turns 65 this year - will make it to 70 years in its current format, following reports of a revolt from the cast over poor working conditions and low salaries.
And as more well-established stars are paid more per episode, the show is said to be relying more on its newer characters as those actors are paid less.
Salaries on the cobbles vary significantly with established stars like Bill Roache said to earn £2,000 per episode while newbies usually get £400 per appearance

The legendary actor, who is set to continue in his role for the foreseeable future, will depart from the ITV soap after 11 years next year. But while the actor who plays vicar Billy Mayhew admits that he was "sad" to be leaving the soap opera, he teased a "major new storyline" which is yet to be revealed. Daniel, 45, joined the soap in 2014 and has since taken on a series of big storylines, most famously, his partner, Paul, battling Motor Neurones Disease, a cause which has a personal link to Daniel. ‌ Speaking about his exit from the soap, Daniel exclusively told the Mirror: "11 years is a long time, but I've been acting professionally for 31/32 years now. As a freelancer, as a jobbing actor – jobs end, that's what happens, contracts finish. The difference is that with a job like Corrie is that, potentially, you're there for longer than the term of your contract. ‌ "I would have been there 11 years by the time I go. It's never not in the back of your mind that the contract you're on could be your last." One thing that Daniel is excited for is the Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover, which will see the soaps join forces for a special hour-long episode in January next year. Although details remain unknown, sources have hinted that the cast is currently in the process of discovering who is involved in the upcoming episode. "We're all very excited for it," Daniel gushed. He went on to add: "It's never been done before, none of us know anything about it at the moment. "It's all being kept very cloak and dagger, but it is very exciting that these two universes are colliding." One storyline that remains close to Daniel's heart is Paul's MND journey, and Daniel's own connection with the condition affected him years before he took on the storyline. "My connection to the MND Association goes back 23 years," Daniel revealed. He went on to add: "My grandfather had motor neurone disease, so that is how I'm connected to the MND society. The fact that we ended up doing an MND storyline on Coronation Street was a complete coincidence. ‌ "The producers had no idea of my connection to the illness or the charity," Daniel states that he personally didn't learn anything about the condition through the show, as he and his family had already been on the same journey that Billy and Paul went through. He added that he used the opportunity to commemorate his grandfather and the people whom he knew who had been living with the condition. "With everything that our storyline did and simultaneously, the wonderful Rob Burrow and his wife Lindsay did, I've seen more awareness raised for MND in the last sort of two or three years than I've seen in the last two decades. That's been the most beautiful thing to come out of it all." Daniel says that the MND community is not like anything he's ever known before. "It's like a club that nobody wants to be in," he said, but added that other people dealing with the condition or their loved ones are "supportive and upbeat." He said: "The strength and the positivity is continually astounding, and it is a really tight-knit, beautiful community." ‌ Daniel, who is an ambassador for the MND Association, is fronting the Omaze Million Pound house draw, with the funds going directly to the MND Association. "This is amazing," he said of the partnership, adding further: "It's fantastic. Hopefully, it should raise millions for the research, nurse network, which is going to be helping towards pioneering treatments and I genuinely, I'm ever hopeful that in my lifetime, I will see a cure for this disease because it is one of the cruellest diseases I think I've ever witnessed anybody go through." He praised Dame Pamela Shaw, the UK's leading neurologist for MND, saying: "She's incredibly positive about the future. They are making steps in terms of treatment, which could potentially slow it down. We now have Tofersen, a drug, there are different types of MND, but if you have the SOD1 gene, which is the familial type of MND, Tofersen is a type of drug that will slow it down. I know several people on Tofersens, and the quality of life is so much better, and the disease has rapidly slowed down in its progression. So it's very encouraging." ‌ But while Dan has appeared in shows such as Emmerdale, Waterloo Road, Casualty, The Bill and obviously Coronation Street, he admits it's his love of acting which draws him to a role. "I've also done a huge number of movies, a huge amount of theatre, and spent years with the Royal Shakespeare Company," he said. He went on to add: "It's whatever excites you. I love acting, I love my job, and I've been doing this since 1994. So when I pick up a script and I get that little flutter of excitement. It's always fun to embody somebody else. For me, it's getting that little buzz of excitement imagining yourself becoming that person. It's the detail for me, I enjoy playing characters and trying to find the truth in whatever story they're telling." ‌ Although Daniel has proudly spoken about his sexuality and often shares an insight into his relationship with his boyfriend Jordan, he was once advised by a former manager not to come out as gay. Daniel was told that being open about being gay would affect his work, which he later discovered was correct. Nowadays, though, he believes that attitudes have massively changed. "It's cool now," he said of being open about sexuality. "I think I'd have done it back then, it would not have been very cool," he said of coming out. He commented: "Now, it's sort of celebrated. So yes, attitudes, definitely have changed dramatically in the 30-odd years that I've been doing this for a living. "That's across the board, legally things have changed, and the attitude of the general public has changed. Yes, absolutely, it's a very different world from the one I knew when I was young and freshly coming out." MND Association Ambassador Daniel Brocklebank is supporting the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw, Sussex in aid of the charity. Sue Cleaver has played Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street for 25 years but quit the role earlier this year. She has now revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap Former Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap following her final appearance as Eileen Grimshaw airing earlier this month. The 61-year-old actress announced her decision to bid farewell to Weatherfield at the start of this year, after an impressive 25 years on the ITV soap. At the time, she issued a heartfelt statement: "I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street," adding further, "The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly." ‌ Sue hasn't been idle during her tenure on the Street – she took a hiatus to tread the boards as Mother Superior in Sister Act before gracing our screens as a panellist on ITV's Loose Women in 2024. ‌ She also enjoyed a stint on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Back in 2022. But now she has the time to commit to other projects, will Sue be popping up on a rival soap like Coronation Street or EastEnders? It's not unheard of for actors to pop up in multiple soap universes, with the likes of Denise Welch and Michelle Collins appearing on both EastEnders and Coronation Street. Speaking in a new interview, Sue says she is "chuffed" with her Corrie legacy, and believes she was given "a wonderful send off" but admits she is ready to "live fearlessly." "I think people forget that you either have courage or you don't, courage is a muscle, start really small and put yourself out of your comfort zone for a couple of minutes a day, enquire about a book club or evening class, because that muscle really does," the actress muses. Sue continues to recall to The Sun how filming her final scenes "was really weird feeling, but it felt right" and it was "the right time" to go. She is now ready to take advantage of her new found "freedom" after spending over two decades at ITV. ‌ "I love doing Loose Women, there are other things I want to do and there is a lot more of the world I want to see," Sue admits. But when it comes to going over to the dark side and popping into The Queen Vic or the Woolpack, Sue is adamant that she is still loyal to Corrie. She rules out appearing on another soap "at this stage" as she is still "very committed to Corrie", adding: "I've been incredibly fortunate and it gave me the opportunity that not many actresses have, to be at home, to be there for my son in the morning and put him to bed at night and to have a proper home life, whereas normally you have to go where the work is. I've been extremely fortunate, it's not lost on me how lucky I've been, it has a big place in my heart." ‌ Speaking to the Mirror in May, Sue opened up on her decision to have co-star Ryan Thomas return for her final episodes, as his character Eileen's son Jason Grimshaw makes a huge offer. Sue shared: "Ryan was there from the start, and he was inconveniently living in Thailand, and it wouldn't be too far of a jump to expect that if Eileen was going to make a leap, that she would involve her son. "And so when I decided to leave, like over a year ago, I rang Ryan, and I said, 'Ryan, I'm going to tell them that I'm going, and if they ask me about exits, I'd really like to say that you'd come back and take me out, but I don't know whether they'd go for it or not'. "And he just went, 'Oh my gosh, of course, I would', which was so lovely for me. And it was just so nice to have him back and filming those final scenes with him. It just felt like I'd come full circle really."
