Webtoons have exploded worldwide, and studios are racing to tap their built-in fanbases. LINE Webtoon's CEO even announced that 'at least 20 more anime series based on webtoons will be announced this year'.
Many of these digital comics boast hundreds of millions or even billions of reads – yet some of the most popular titles in action, romance and fantasy still have no official anime. Here are 10 such fan-favorites (each with global followings and strong storytelling) that we believe deserve the animated treatment.
1. SubZero – Fantasy Romance
This sweeping dragon-fantasy romance has been read over 375 million times on Webtoon. In
SubZero
, the last dragon princess Clove is forced into a political marriage with her enemy, Prince Kyro. The enemies-to-lovers plot is packed with magic, action and steamy tension – elements already praised by reviewers. As Oni Press editor Grace Scheipeter notes,
SubZero
combines 'dragons, love triangles, danger and magic' and is ideal for fans of
Lore Olympus
or
A Court of Thorns and Roses
. With its huge readership and lush artwork,
SubZero
has the visual spectacle and passionate fanbase to make a hit anime.
2. unOrdinary – Action
u
nOrdinary* is a high-school saga set in a superpowered world, and it's one of Webtoon's biggest hits. The series has 1.1 billion views and 5.7 million subscribers on Webtoon. It follows an ordinary teen in a school hierarchy of heroes and villains, with a dark secret that upends the status quo. Fans praise its blend of explosive powers and emotional depth. In tone it's like a darker
My Hero Academia
– exactly the kind of character-driven superhero story that could soar in anime form. The enormous global audience (on the order of billions of pageviews) shows how eager fans would be to see
unOrdinary
animated.

3.
Weak Hero
– Action/Drama
A gritty school fight drama,
Weak Hero
has over 242 million reads and 1.6 million subscribers. It centers on Gray, a quiet new student who appears weak but quickly becomes a fearsome fighter against school bullies. The series is known for its tense, well-choreographed fight scenes and its themes of bullying and justice (a Netflix live-action drama has already made it a global trend). Its page counts demonstrate a strong following. With its raw action and emotional story,
Weak Hero
would translate well into a thrilling anime – bringing its intense fights and anti-bullying message to a wider audience.
4. Cursed Princess Club – Fantasy Comedy/Romance
This charming fantasy series turns the 'princess curse' trope on its head. It follows Gwendolyn, a princess cursed with extreme ugliness despite her royal status, who seeks help from a mysterious club of misfits.
Cursed Princess Club
has 288 million views and 2.3 million subscribers, making it one of the platform's top fantasy romances. Its humor, heart and themes of self-acceptance have won fans worldwide. An anime adaptation could highlight the story's whimsical art and heartfelt humor, appealing to viewers who love fairy-tale magic and strong messages.
In short, its proven popularity and upbeat tone make it a natural fit for animation.
5. The Boxer – Sports Drama
A compelling sports drama,
The Boxer
is about a young boxing prodigy who seems defeated until a mysterious coach recognizes his talent. With 176 million reads and 1.7 million subscribers, it's already a Webtoon hit. The series is praised for its gritty, psychological take on boxing – exploring themes of talent, hard work and mindset. Given the popularity of boxing/anime crossovers (
Hajime no Ippo
, etc.), an anime
The Boxer
could showcase high-intensity fight animation and emotional depth.
Its built-in audience of millions proves there's demand to see these underdog boxing matches come to life on screen.
6. The Greatest Estate Developer – Fantasy Isekai
This inventive isekai comedy follows an engineering student reincarnated into a fantasy world as a debt-ridden nobleman. On Webtoon it has 172.7 million views and 1.2 million subscribers. The hero uses his modern knowledge (and a giant hamster sidekick) to build machines and change destiny. Fans love its clever mix of everyday science and adventure.
An anime could amplify its humor and world-building – mechanical contraptions and fantasy battles would play great in animation.
Since isekai series like
Dr. Stone
have done well,
Estate Developer
's unique twist and strong fanbase make it ripe for adaptation.
7. The Remarried Empress – Fantasy Romance
One of Webtoon's most-read series,
The Remarried Empress
has over 2.6 billion reads. It's a sweeping palace drama about Navier, an empress whose husband leaves her for a slave, only for Navier to boldly ask to remarry another emperor. The story features political intrigue, romance and a strong heroine. (It's already a hit K-drama, but
no anime adaptation has been announced
.)
With its epic scope and loyal global following, it's a perfect candidate for anime. The massive readership shows how invested fans are in Navier's journey, and animation could bring even more drama and spectacle to the story's stunning palace settings.
8. Not Even Bones – Dark Fantasy Thriller
This gritty thriller has 147.5 million views and 1.9 million subscribers. It follows Nita, the teenage daughter of a monster-selling mortician, who helps her cruel mother sell supernatural body parts — until she must decide if she'll become the monster herself.
The series is praised for its dark twists, gore and moral complexity. There's nothing quite like it in anime yet, and its popularity shows fans love its unique angle.
An animated
Not Even Bones
would bring its horror-action to life – the dramatic fights and shocking turns would make it stand out in the anime landscape, just as the Webtoon did online.
9. Your Throne – Fantasy Drama
This intense fantasy drama (also known as
I Want To Be Queen
) has 181.1 million views and 1.9 million subscribers.
It centers on Medea, a noblewoman who lost her throne and plots to reclaim it from her rival, the crown princess. The series is packed with palace intrigue, revenge and shifting loyalties, and its gothic art style is very striking. In just a few hundred chapters it's built a huge following. Anime fans could enjoy its melodrama and strategizing – think of it as a dark Cinderella story with swords.
With that many readers, an anime would satisfy a major fan demand for more cinematic storytelling of Medea's revenge saga.
10. Midnight Poppy Land – Romantic Thriller
Blending romance and suspense,
Midnight Poppy Land
has 261.6 million reads and 2.6 million subscribers. It tells the story of a book editor whose life becomes entangled with a young mafia boss and his bodyguard after she stumbles on a murder. The series offers a sexy enemies-to-lovers plot and a noir atmosphere. Its popularity reflects how well fans react to the mix of love and danger. In anime form, viewers could immerse themselves in the city's underworld and the chemistry between characters.
Given its thriller vibes and strong fanbase,
Midnight Poppy Land
would attract both romance and action lovers if animated.
Conclusion: These ten Webtoons span action, romance and fantasy, but they share one thing: massive global fanbases and rich stories that beg for animation. From superheroes and martial-arts fights to royal intrigue and supernatural romance, each series has all the ingredients for a hit anime – compelling characters, stunning visuals, and proven popularity. With studios eagerly seeking new IPs from Webtoon, it's only a matter of time before some of these beloved titles get their anime break.
Fans around the world will certainly be cheering for these series to make the jump from digital comic to animated series – and when they do, their existing readerships guarantee an eager audience.

Aamir Khan to Tom Cruise: Celebs on a Mission to Save Cinema One Film at a Time

It's no longer just about lights, camera, and action—it's about finding ways to resurrect the box office from the 'digital doom'. In a world where theatres are dimming their lights and streaming giants roaring louder than ever, a new mission was quietly set into motion by some of cinema's top superstars. Interestingly, this grand mission didn't play out on screen, but behind the scenes, on telephones, in boardrooms, in production offices and in some bold high-stakes refusals. Today, an elite club of filmmakers and stars—from Aamir Khan in India to Tom Cruise in Hollywood—is taking a definitive stand, to revive and put theatres first. Aamir Khan braving Bollywood's OTT Storm When Aamir Khan rejected a Rs 120 crore offer from streaming giants for Sitaare Zameen Par, it wasn't just a business move, it was a bold statement. At a time when films and production houses announced streaming deals before their theatrical releases, Khan's old-school refusal to jump aboard the OTT bandwagon made waves in the industry, and of course, he had all the right reasons. 'I am what I am today because people have seen my films in theatres,' Aamir told The New Indian Express. 'I want to revive the theatre business which is facing a lot of difficulty.' Sticking to the book, the actor shared his vision for a minimum eight-week delay before any digital premiere. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 40세 넘고 PC만 있으면? 이 게임 완전 내 거임! Hero Wars 플레이하기 Undo Citing sources, News18 reported that Khan wants to impose an eight-week window between the theatrical release and the OTT premiere of Sitaare Zameen Par. That's double the industry's recent standard, where films often land on streaming platforms within three to four weeks of hitting cinemas. 'The idea is to make people choose the big screen experience again by not giving them the home-viewing option so soon,' a source told the outlet. In essence, it's not just about box office numbers, it's also about restoring the ritual of a shared viewing experience. Tried and Tested Method Before Aamir Khan took a firm stand on delaying the OTT release of Sitaare Zameen Par, Pushpa 2 had already set a compelling precedent. The makers of the Allu Arjun-starrer strategically opted for a longer theatrical window before heading to streaming platforms—allowing the film to enjoy an uninterrupted box office run. This decision paid off handsomely. Film analyst Girish Wankhede notes, "Pushpa 2's journey to the 1000 crore club is a testament to the power of strategic planning, innovative marketing, and the ability to deliver a captivating cinematic experience." The film was intentionally positioned for a solo release, free from the clutter of competing titles. This gave it an undisturbed theatrical run of three to four weeks, ample breathing room to dominate the screens and maximise returns. 'Strategic release planning was at the forefront of Pushpa 2's success,' he adds. 'When the content resonates with audiences, as it did with Pushpa, the film gains momentum, generates repeat value, and brings viewers back to cinemas again and again. ' Even John Abraham, was also upbeat about films releasing in theatres. In a previous interview with ETimes, he shared his thoughts about his films releasing in theatres. He said, "I think the best news is that people are coming back to cinemas. That is probably the best news and I am happy for that." Man on a Mission On the other side of globe, another on-screen hero is rewriting industry rules. Since the post-pandemic dawn of digital streaming platforms, Tom Cruise has relentlessly insisted that films would premiere only in theatres. The result of this pursuit was watching Top Gun: Maverick soaring to $1.5 billion worldwide in 2022. The film that jolted the box office back to life, even prompted Steven Spielberg to hail the action star's efforts, saying, 'You saved Hollywood's ass, and you might've saved theatrical distribution.' A Maverick Move At a time when studios panicked and sold off content to streaming platforms, Cruise became a one-man production army. He pushed Paramount Pictures to delay Top Gun: Maverick until theatres reopened. 'I ensured Top Gun: Maverick did not go to streaming, that it was held for distribution,' he revealed. And his gamble paid off. Sharing his master plan with ESPN's Pat McAfee, he said, 'I just kept everyone working…' He also shared that he consistently pushed back against the industry's hesitation, saying, "'Look, this movie is coming out. Period. It's coming out in theatres.'" He went on to reveal he not only insisted that the film would be released only in theatres but also personally reached out to global theatre owners and studio executives to rally support for a traditional theatrical rollout. With this, he didn't just save a film—he saved an entire film industry ecosystem. His follow-up with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning carried the same theatre-first ethos, proving his crusade wasn't a one-time fluke. Theatres vs OTT: A Global Debate While Khan and Cruise are taking a theatrical oath, the rest of the world remains in a tug-of-war. For some, OTT opens doors to global audiences unreachable through traditional theatrical releases, and for others, it strips cinema of its soul. Director Patricia Riggen of G20 is pragmatic of embracing the changing viewing formats. She explains, 'You don't have the theatre, but you get the world. 2000 countries are going to see this movie at the same time.' Her perspective represents the inclusivity and convenience that platforms like Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Apple TV+ and others offer—especially for mid-budget or globally sensitive films that may not get premium screen space. But 'The Strangers' director Renny Harlin is a purist. He shares, 'I love going to the movies… that great feeling of sharing that in a movie theatre is very special.' James Hawes , on the other hand, is keen on finding a middle ground. 'The platform doesn't matter as much as making something people want to watch and feel.' It's not always an either-or scenario. Sometimes, the film itself dictates its platform. The New Box Office Playbook In a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape, industry experts are rewriting the rules of movie marketing and release strategy. No longer is content sent straight-to-digital, filmmakers and superstars are drawing up a bold, back-to-cinema strategy that blends old-school rules with sharp, strategic thinking designed to reignite the big-screen magic. Some tried and tested methods include Delay OTT Release to 8 weeks after a theatrical release Solo Release Windows with no competing releases. Global Theatre Giants working in Unison worldwide to ensure a film's success. Use Social Media and Interviews to reinforce Cinematic Campaigning. What does the future look like? The pandemic exposed the vulnerability of cinemas, but also spotlighted their irreplaceable magic. The big screen, once written off as a relic, is being passionately defended by the very people who helped define it. With global titans like Cruise, Khan, Speilberg and others leading the charge, the answer isn't about choosing between OTT and theatres, but about balance and giving cinema a fighting chance at forging its greatest comeback story. And as audiences return, popcorn in hand, perhaps they've proved that all it takes is a few heroes to keep the reels rolling.

Taylor Swift's sweet summer moment with Travis Kelce gets unexpected green light from her bodyguard

Travis Kelce leads the way during NYC date with Taylor Swift as security gives subtle nod (Credit: Backgrid) Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's romance just added another swoon-worthy chapter — this time, under the New York City lights. On June 20, the superstar couple was spotted enjoying a cozy evening at Manhattan's trendy Italian hotspot, Torrisi. But what truly melted fans' hearts was a subtle yet powerful gesture from Kelce that sent social media into a frenzy. Bodyguard backs off as Travis Kelce makes romantic move on Taylor Swift's NYC date night As the couple arrived at the restaurant, Kelce was seen getting out of their Range Rover and circling around to Swift's side of the vehicle. Swift's personal bodyguard, who usually oversees such moments, paused before nodding in quiet approval — allowing the Kansas City Chiefs tight end to open the car door for the global pop star. Kelce then gently offered his hand, helping her step out as cameras and fans captured the chivalrous move. The NFL star didn't stop there. Inside footage showed him shaking a restaurant employee's hand as Swift trailed closely behind. The two paused briefly before holding hands and slipping into a waiting car, with Kelce again ensuring she was safely beside him. It was a small moment, but one that symbolized how the couple continues to balance fame with authenticity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo For the evening, Swift wore a sky-blue corset top paired with a white pleated skirt, while Kelce kept it casual in a white tee and shorts — letting their chemistry do the heavy lifting in terms of style. Their Manhattan outing comes shortly after they were seen together at the NHL Stanley Cup Final on June 12, enjoying the Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers game. Their reappearance in NYC also follows several intimate dates in Florida, where Kelce had been training in a rented $20 million mansion. After laying low since February — following the Chiefs' Super Bowl defeat to the Eagles — the couple has been gradually stepping back into the spotlight. They shared a Mother's Day brunch in Philadelphia and even made appearances at a Palm Beach restaurant and a family wedding in Tennessee. With the Eras Tour now wrapped — the final show having taken place in Vancouver in December 2024 — Swift is finally free from her globe-trotting schedule. 'This fall will be completely different,' a source shared, emphasizing how past seasons were a whirlwind for the couple. 'The past two seasons were a whirlwind between performing across multiple countries, long flights and trying to squeeze in alone time together wherever possible. It wasn't easy, but they made it work.' And now, with Swift looking forward to cheering Kelce on without tour constraints, fans can expect more public moments between music and football's power couple.
