VietJet signs agreement with Airbus to purchase up to 150 aircraft
Airbus struck a deal on Tuesday to sell up to 150 single-aisle aircraft to Vietnamese budget airline VietJet, as the European planemaker continues to rack up business at the Paris Airshow.
The companies said they had signed a memorandum of understanding for VietJet to buy 100 more A321neo planes, with the option to add up to a further 50 to the deal in future. The agreement confirmed an earlier Reuters story.
A deal for 150 A321neos could be worth around $9.4 billion, according to estimated prices provided by Cirium Ascend.
"These modern and efficient aircraft have been instrumental in VietJet's growth," VietJet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said in a statement released at a press conference attended by a delegation including several Western bankers.
"This landmark agreement represents a vital step in VietJet's growth strategy as a multi-national aviation group." The planes will be delivered from 2030 onwards, and VietJet said it had financing in place for the deal.
European planemaker Airbus has announced a flurry of deals at the Paris Airshow, the world's biggest aviation trade fair that opened on Monday.
U.S. rival Boeing is expected to have a more subdued show as it focuses on the probe into last week's fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 and after it racked up huge deals during U.S. President Donald Trump's recent tour of the Middle East.
VietJet, the largest private airline in Vietnam, operates an all-Airbus fleet, apart from two Chinese-made regional jets.
The airline has not to date taken delivery of any of the around 200 MAX planes it has ordered from Boeing.
Airbus is the main supplier of jets to Vietnam, accounting for 86% of the planes currently operated by Vietnamese airlines.
However, the export-dependent Southeast Asian country is under pressure from Washington to buy more U.S. goods.
VietJet's latest deal comes only weeks after it ordered 20 A330neo wide-body airliners from Airbus.

Trump extends TikTok ban deadline for a third time, without clear legal basis
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order to keep TikTok running in the U.S. for another 90 days to give his administration more time to broker a deal to bring the social media platform under American ownership. Trump disclosed the executive order on the Truth Social platform Thursday morning. 'He's making an extension so we can get this deal done,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday. 'It's wildly popular. He also wants to protect Americans' data and privacy concerns on this app. And he believes we can do both at the same time.' It is the third time Trump has extended the deadline. The first one was through an executive order on Jan. 20, his first day in office, after the platform went dark briefly when a national ban — approved by Congress and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court — took effect. The second was in April when White House officials believed they were nearing a deal to spin off TikTok into a new company with U.S. ownership that fell apart after China backed out following Trump's tariff announcement.

HAL and Safran to produce forged parts for LEAP engines
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed an agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines (SAE) for the industrialisation and production of rotating parts for LEAP engines. The agreement, which was signed at the ongoing 55th edition of the Paris Air Show (June 16-20, 2025), follows the memorandum of understanding signed by Safran Aircraft Engines and HAL in October 2023 to develop industrial cooperation in LEAP engine parts manufacturing, as well as the contract signed last February by both partners to produce Super alloy forged parts. HAL aims to support the strong growth of the Indian aerospace market and ensure the ramp-up of LEAP engines powering single-aisle civil aircraft. Safran Aircraft Engines is developing a complete aerospace ecosystem based on the creation of new facilities in India. Upon development of critical near-net Ring Forging technology at HAL, SAE and HAL have now signed an agreement for production of Inconel parts at the state-of-the-art Ring Rolling facility at HAL's Foundry and Forge Division in Bengaluru, supporting LEAP program's ramp-up for global airline requirements. Further, both companies are working together to develop technology for the balance parts. 'We are really proud to expand this long-standing partnership with Safran and to develop our industrial expertise in forging processes for Inconel parts for the LEAP program,' said Dr. D. K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director of HAL. 'We are pleased to extend our collaboration with HAL, a key player of the Indian aerospace industry. This industrial cooperation is part of our roadmap to diversify our production sourcing and strengthen our industrial footprint in India, so as to support the growth of domestic air traffic with our LEAP engine and prepare for future requirements of military parts,' said Dominique Dupuy, Vice-President (Purchasing), Safran Aircraft Engines.

Rupee rises 13 paise to 86.60 against U.S. dollar in early trade
Rupee rose 13 paise to 86.60 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Friday (June 20, 2025) over a decline in global crude oil prices and a weakening greenback. The rupee had lost 30 paise to close at an over two-month low of 86.73 against the U.S. dollar on Thursday, logging a combined loss of 69 paise during the past three sessions. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 86.65 against the US dollar before rising to 86.60, up 13 paise from its previous close. "The uncertainty of Iran-Israel war remains, and US President Donald Trump has only postponed the US entry by 2 weeks... the rupee is expected to move between 86.35/95. Exporters are getting a good chance to sell dollars as when the fighting ends we may see the rupee back to 85.50/75 levels, which could happen in July," Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said. "Importers need to wait for hedging, while exporters can keep selling at 86.85/90 levels. FPIs have been small buyers of equity in the last three days, and the selling has mostly happened in mid-cap and small caps as indices have not fallen much despite the war in the Middle East," he said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.31 per cent lower at 98.59. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 289.43 points to 81,651.30 while Nifty was up 88.25 points to 24,881.50. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, declined 2.46 per cent to USD 76.91 per barrel in futures trade. "As the White House release said that Trump will decide in two weeks whether to attack Iran or not, there was some relief in various asset classes with Brent oil down to USD 77.16 per barrel with prices having jumped by almost 3 per cent overnight," Bhansali said. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 934.62 crore on a net basis on Thursday, according to exchange data.
