James Williams Rallying pays tribute to Dai Roberts

James Williams of Newcastle Emlyn and Dai Roberts, 39, from Carmarthen, were involved in a crash during the Jim Clark Rally, near Duns in the Scottish Borders, on Saturday May 24.
Tragically Dai did not survive his injuries while James, 27, was taken to hospital with critical injuries that were not life-threatening.
James Williams Rallying has posted a tribute to Dai, as well as an update into James' condition in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital.
'Our hearts are with the Roberts family,' said the tribute posted on Facebook. 'Dai was a deeply loved member of our rallying family and the rallying community across the world.
'He was not only a co-driver to James, but a best friend, a pivotal part of our family-run team, and a loving and devoted husband and father. His warmth, humour and passion touched everyone who knew him and love that transcended motorsport.'
The post sent love and support to Dai's family and to 'everyone who was lucky enough to know and love Dai'.
'He will always be with us in our hearts and in our stories,' it read. 'We will all step-up for the Roberts family, the way Dai always showed up for so many on so many occasions.'
James from Newcastle Emlyn has undergone successful surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
He is now stable, able to communicate and slowly gaining strength with each passing day.
'He has received incredible care from the emergency services and hospital team, for which we are endlessly grateful,' said the James Williams Rallying team.
'While there is still a long journey ahead both physically and emotionally, the trajectory so far has been positive.'
The update said that the messages sent by supporters had been shared with James and
'truly meant so much'.
'The support from the rallying and wider community has been overwhelming and deeply appreciated by everyone around James,' said the post.
'Thank you for your continued compassion, respect, privacy and support to both families during this incredibly difficult time.'
James and Dai were in a Hyundai i20N Rally2 as they battled for the lead of the British Rally Championship contest.
Police Scotland said that inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
Motorsport UK has also initiated a full investigation and says it will work closely with the Jim Clark Rally event organisers and Jim Clark Memorial Motor Club and will co-operate with the relevant authorities.

A winner of the Irish Tarmac Championship fixture in 2023 and again in 2024, the Claudy man is aiming to emulate Cathal Curley (1972-1974), Billy Coleman (1984-1986), and the late Manus Kelly who dominated his home meeting between 2016 and 2018 respectively. Devine was quickest out of the blocks on yesterday's 'Malin Head' opener in his Michelin-shod Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, with that setting the tone for much of the Friday leg. 'I am happy enough with how the first leg has gone, it has been a very good day,' reflected Devine, who provisionally leads by 12.4 seconds. 'The speed and times are both there. 'The pace is fast – as fast as it has been all year, actually – and it is nice to be in the mix. The priority now is to ensure we get a good rest overnight because Saturday is a big day.' Although he did not record quickest times on each of the six stages, Devine was able to move into a comfortable lead as some big Rally2 names suffered unexpected setbacks. Event debutant Hayden Paddon was fifth after the opening loop in his C&M Motorsport Hyundai i20 N Rally2 having reported a moment on stage one, a trip into a ditch on two, and a set-up that left the Korean supermini nervous over the bumps and jumps on three. Despite this, and revealing his car felt underpowered for Friday's closing two runs, his time competing in the sport's top tier came to the fore as he vaulted up to second place. 'We are not in the window with the car – it has been challenging but it has also been enjoyable,' the New Zealander said. The battle for third-position is also finely poised but it is Welshman Meirion Evans that currently enjoys the upper-hand over Castrol MEM driving-mate William Creighton who was happier with the ride of his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 as he arrived the overnight halt. M-Sport Ford driver Jon Armstrong set the same time as Devine on 'Malin Head' and led after the second test before his works-supported M-Sport Ford Fiesta was struck down with driveshaft failure, leaving it with front-wheel-drive for the seven miles of 'Coolcross'. That demoted him to ninth overall, however, with his car repaired by mechanics at service in Letterkenny, he went on to win two of the afternoon stages to pass Josh Moffett for fifth. Saturday's action comprises four loops of two stages, with the first – the 7.45-miles of 'High Glen' – scheduled to get underway just before 10 o'clock in the morning.

Flames erupt from pickup truck as M90 closed in both directions

Shocking images from the scene show giant orange flames towering from the shell of the white vehicle as thick grey smoke billows into the air. A major Scots motorway was closed in both directions after a pickup truck went up in flames. Traffic was drawn to a halt on Thursday afternoon after the white vehicle combusted into a blaze on M90 near Kinross. ‌ Hero firefighters raced to the scene and both lanes of the busy road were closed while the inferno was extinguished. ‌ Shocking images from the scene show giant orange flames towering from the shell of the white vehicle as thick grey smoke billows into the air. It is unknown if there were any casualties but by around 1.45pm on June 19 the fire was put out and all lanes were reopened to traffic. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they received a number of calls at around 12.45pm regarding a pick up truck on fire, on the M90 near Kinross. Two appliances attended the fire and all lanes were closed. They have now left the scene and carriageway is fully open. It comes as another car caught fire on a major Scots motorway, leaving part of it closed off. The incident happened just before 12.30pm on Sunday, June 15, on the M8 in Lanarkshire. The westbound off-slip for junction six at Newhouse has been shut to allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze. One lane of the motorway has also been "restricted" on approach. ‌ Police and paramedics were also dispatched to the scene, but it is not known whether anybody was injured. Kimberley Collins, who witnessed the fire, said: "When we were travelling, from Glasgow to Edinburgh, we could see smoke and we weren't sure what side of the motorway it was coming from. "As we got closer the smoke was getting thicker and the cars were starting to slow down, traffic began to build up. "Shortly after, two police cars formed a rolling road block on the westbound carriageway where the burning car was. As we continued driving another fire engine and road recovery truck passed us on the westbound carriageway. "Not every day you see something like that!
