Dunne dominates Formula 2, Câmara leads Formula 3 and De Haan captures Porsche round
Robert De Haan captured double pole today for this weekend's races in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, being held in support of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit.
De Haan continued his fine form this weekend and clocked a fastest lap of 2:03.990 during qualifying to take the leading grid spot for the first race later tonight.
His second-best lap of 2:04.106 then earned him pole for race two.
Janne Stiak will start alongside him on row one for the first race after setting a qualifying time of 2:04.364 today.
De Haan is also the leading starter in the Pro class for both races.
In the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, Rodin Motorsport driver Alexander Dunne secured an impressive maiden victory. Starting from fourth on the grid, Dunne passed Leonardo Fornaroli on lap seven to take the lead and retained control for the remainder of the 32-lap contest.
Luke Browning, racing for Hitech TGR, climbed the field on an alternate tyre strategy to finish second, while Fornaroli completed the podium in third for Invicta Racing.
Josep María Martí made strong progress from 11th to finish fourth, followed by Victor Martins, Richard Verschoor, and Dino Beganovic. Arvid Lindblad surged from 16th to eighth, with Gabriele Minì and Joshua Duerksen rounding out the points in ninth and tenth, respectively.
In the FIA Formula 3 Feature Race, Rafael Camara made it two wins from two, converting pole position into a dominant victory in the Sakhir Feature Race, ahead of Callum Voisin and Tim Tramnitz.
Polesitter Camara had a slow start, allowing Voisin to get ahead into Turn 1, but on Lap 5, he re-took the position from his Rodin Motorsport rival.
From there, the Scuderia Ferrari Academy driver pulled away, winning the race by over six seconds, while Voisin settled for second.
Tramnitz charged through from P13 on the grid to finish third for MP Motorsport, a late move on ART Grand Prix driver Tuukka Taponen giving him his first podium of the year.
Taponen was able to hold off the other Red Bull Academy junior in the field, Nikola Tsolov, across the line to claim P4, while the Campos Racing driver took fifth.
Noah Stromsted continued his strong start to the season for Trident, the Mercedes junior finishing sixth ahead of MP's Alessandro Giusti, in his Williams-liveried car.
Mari Boya came through from 20th on the grid to finish eighth for Campos, ahead of the third MP car driven by Bruno del Pino, while Christian Ho rounded out the top 10 for DAMS Lucas Oil.
In the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, Robert De Haan converted his double pole into double victories. He finished 5.7 seconds ahead of Janne Stiak in race two, with Angus Whiteside completing the podium in third.
Khalid Al Ahmadi claimed victory in the Pro-Am category, while Banksy topped the Masters class.

Thailand Sets Sights on 2028 Formula 1 Grand Prix with $1.2 Billion Bangkok Bid
Thailand's cabinet has given the green light to a bold $1.2 billion bid to host a Formula One Grand Prix in Bangkok starting in 2028, marking a major push to bring the world's most prestigious motorsport event to Southeast Asia's second-largest economy. If approved by Formula 1 management, the deal would see Thailand host an annual race in the capital through 2032, adding another marquee event to the sport's already packed global calendar. Street Racing in the Heart of Bangkok The proposal is for a street circuit in Bangkok — a high-stakes logistical and infrastructural undertaking that aims to emulate the glitz and allure of races like Monaco and Singapore. The government has made clear that this isn't just about racing, but about showcasing Thailand on the global stage. 'In the next two to three years, Thailand will have world-class competition, which we never thought would actually happen here,' said government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub in a news conference on Tuesday. Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthong confirmed the bid is valued at approximately 40 billion baht ($1.23 billion). Long-Term Vision for Tourism For Thailand, hosting a Formula 1 race fits neatly into its strategy to revitalize tourism, which remains one of the country's most important economic sectors. A Bangkok Grand Prix would generate global media exposure, draw tens of thousands of international fans, and position the capital as a high-end destination for sports and entertainment. This announcement follows a March meeting between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, after which Thailand commissioned a feasibility study into organizing a street race beginning in 2028. Competition on a Crowded Grid If successful, Thailand would join an increasingly crowded Formula One calendar that currently features 24 races, with four already in the Asia-Pacific region — including a night race in nearby Singapore. While Thailand has an FIA-accredited circuit in Buriram, which hosts MotoGP events, the government is aiming higher with a Bangkok-based event that puts the urban setting front and center. It's a move that mirrors the global trend in F1 toward street circuits that blend sport with cityscape spectacle. Next Steps The Thai government's approval is just the beginning. The final decision rests with Formula One's commercial rights holders and governing bodies. A Bangkok Grand Prix would require detailed logistical planning, infrastructure development, and close coordination with city authorities to ensure the urban race meets international standards. Still, the cabinet's unanimous backing signals Thailand's intent: to be more than just a tourist haven — to become a global stage for elite sport. If it crosses the finish line, Bangkok 2028 could mark a turning point in Southeast Asia's presence in the Formula 1 world.

Bahrain Retains Its Place on Motorsport's Global Grid
TDT | Manama The kingdom secures key dates across multiple FIA championships in 2026 Bahrain's role as a key hub in global motorsport has been reaffirmed following confirmation of the 2026 calendars across several top-tier FIA series, including Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula E, and the World Rally-Raid Championship. The announcement, made at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau and chaired by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, solidifies the kingdom's ongoing commitment to motorsport at the highest level. F1 and F3 Share the Stage The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be held from April 10 to 12, 2026, featuring the debut of F1 cars powered by 100% sustainable fuels—a major milestone in the sport's green transition. Over the same weekend, Bahrain will also host a round of the FIA Formula 3 Championship, making it the Middle East's sole representative in the ten-round junior series. This joint showcase of senior and feeder series underlines Bahrain's status as a cradle of racing development. Full Middle East Slate in Formula Championships Bahrain is one of four Middle Eastern venues confirmed for the 2026 Formula 1 and Formula 2 calendars, alongside Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. The region will also feature in the Formula E calendar, with Saudi Arabia staging back-to-back races in Jeddah on February 13 and 14, 2026. The F2 series will run in tandem with F1, placing Bahrain in a pivotal position as both a sporting and logistical anchor for the season's early stages. Rally-Raid Continues Across the Region Bahrain may not be a host for the World Rally-Raid Championship, but the wider Gulf remains heavily involved. Saudi Arabia will again open the 2026 W2RC season with the Dakar Rally from January 3 to 17, followed by Morocco in late September and Abu Dhabi in November. These events bolster the Middle East's footprint in off-road rallying, complementing its high-profile circuit racing presence. FIA Pushes Ahead with 2027 WRC Vision In addition to confirming 2026 dates, the FIA has advanced its long-term rally strategy. The WRC27 rulebook, set to define the World Rally Championship's future from 2027 to 2037, has been finalised. A new bodywork volume framework offers manufacturers broad freedom in design, allowing anything from hatchbacks and saloons to crossovers and custom-built entries—without compromising on performance. The flexibility aims to attract innovation and investment while maintaining regulatory clarity. A Clear Message from the FIA FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem underlined the importance of this transitional period: '2025 is proving to be an exciting year across all our championships, new agreements across our championships are unlocking fresh potential.' That potential includes sustainability targets, fresh talent development, and a broadening global reach—goals Bahrain continues to align with through its sustained presence on the calendar. A Measured but Meaningful Step Bahrain's confirmed inclusion in the 2026 motorsport calendar—spanning from Formula 1 to F3—reaffirms its status not just as a venue, but as a foundational part of motorsport's evolving ecosystem. As the FIA balances innovation with heritage, Bahrain is proving itself ready for both.
