Mersing cops confirm man in viral video stopping teens' bike was on-duty officer acting on traffic violations (VIDEO)
MERSING, June 22 – A viral video showing a man in black attempting to turn off the ignition of a motorcycle ridden by two teenagers near a school in Endau here has been confirmed to involve an on-duty police officer, Mersing police said today.
According to the Mersing District Police Headquarters, the officer was conducting an inspection after observing that the motorcycle lacked a registration plate, had a modified exhaust, and was emitting excessive noise.
'Investigations revealed that the individual in black was an on-duty police officer who was attempting to inspect the motorcycle ridden by the two males,' said Mersing Deputy Police Chief DSP Mohd Hasrudi Mohd Zain in a statement.
The 13-second video, recorded at a traffic light near Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Endau by a car behind them, captured the officer approaching a motorcycle carrying two teenagers wearing school T-shirts.

The officer had attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the two teenagers were then seen running a red light while attempting to escape, before being pursued.
Hasrudi explained that the laws permit officers to stop and inspect vehicles suspected to be involved in traffic offences.
'The police officer's actions fall under Section 58(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which permits the stopping and inspection of motor vehicles at any reasonable time, and Section 24(1)(b) of the Police Act 1967,' he said.
The police also advised the public not to speculate on the incident, which has sparked discussion online.

Man, 20, charged in shooting that injured 2 Southgate police officers
A 20-year-old man is facing 15 criminal charges in a shooting Thursday that injured two Southgate police officers, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Jeremiah Kemp of Wayne, Michigan, is charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, one count of discharge of a firearm causing serious impairment, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and seven counts of felony firearm. Kemp was arraigned on Sunday in district court. Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy in intensive care after he was attacked by Powell man
A 44-year-old Powell man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he critically injured a Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy in an attack June 21. Deputy Dalton Swanger was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment and is being cared for in the intensive care unit. The man charged, Christopher Hensley, was detained after a search following the attack with a large brick or rock, and also is charged with aggravated assault on a first responder, domestic assault, possession of a firearm with intent to go armed and manufacturing/selling/possession of a controlled substance. The sheriff's office was called to the 7800 block of Stanley Road shortly before 10:15 p.m. June 21 on a complaint about someone firing guns. When deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said, Hensley attacked and injured Swanger. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Swanger and his family during this challenging time," Sheriff Tom Spangler said in a news release.
