Buy or sell: Vaishali Parekh recommends three stocks to buy today — 23 June 2025

Buy or sell stocks: The Indian stock market broke its three-day losing streak, buoyed by robust Asian market performance and advancing US futures. The Nifty 50 index finished 319 points higher at 25,112, the BSE Sensex surged 1,046 points and closed at 82,408, while the Bank Nifty index shot up 675 points and closed at 56,252. Trent, Jio Finance, and M&M emerged as top performers on the Nifty. Conversely, Hero Moto Corp, Dr Reddy's, and Maruti concluded the session as major losers of the Nifty. Trading volumes on the NSE cash market were higher by 76% on the back of Sensex and FTSE rebalancing-related trades. The buying frenzy was broad-based, with all sectoral indices ending in the green. Amongst them, Realty, PSU Banks, Metal, and Auto sectors were the significant outperformers, leading the charge from the front. All major sectoral indices ended in the green, indicating widespread optimism. Notable gains were seen in Metal, PSU Bank, Realty, Power, Telecom, and Capital Goods, with each sectoral index rising between 1 per cent and 2 per cent. Vaishali Parekh, Vice President—Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, believes the Indian stock market bias has improved as the Nifty 50 index has decisively closed above 25,000. The Prabhudas Lilladher expert said the bias might turn bullish once the key benchmark index decisively breaks above the 25,200 to 25,250 hurdle. Speaking on the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Vaishali Parekh said, "The Nifty 50 index witnessed a strong move during the session to move past the 25,000 zone decisively on the back of easing out of the geo-political tensions temporarily as of now, with strong recovery visible across the board. The index would have the near-term hurdle at the 25,200-25,250 zone, above which one can expect fresh upward to retest the previous peak zone at 26,277 levels in the coming days. At the same time, the 24,700 level would be the crucial near-term support that needs to be sustained to maintain the bias intact." "The Bank Nifty index bounced back once again to move past the hurdle of the 56,000 zone with bias improving and expecting further rise in the coming days with sentiments expected to ease out for the next coming sessions and would need to breach above the near-term resistance zone at the 57,000 level to strengthen the trend further. On the downside, the 55,000 zone would be the important near-term support that needs to be sustained now," said Parekh. Parekh said that today, support for the Nifty is at 25,000, while resistance is at 25,300. The Bank Nifty will have a daily range of 55,700 to 57,000. Regarding stocks to buy today, Vaishali Parekh recommended three buy or sell stocks: Yes Bank, Jio Financial Services, and Persistent Systems. 1] Yes Bank: Buy at ₹ 19.70, Target ₹ 21, Stop Loss ₹ 19; 2] Jio Financial Services: Buy at ₹ 292, Target ₹ 303, Stop Loss ₹ 288; and 3] Persistent Systems: Buy at ₹ 6100, Target ₹ 6500, Stop Loss ₹ 5800. FM to review backlog of income tax disputes on Monday, to push for early resolution

New Delhi: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Monday review the backlog of income tax disputes and explore ways of cutting down their pendency at a meeting with senior field officers, two persons informed about the development said, outlining efforts to make tax governance more efficient. The minister will also lead discussions on how to speed up tax refunds further and improve services to the taxpayer while enhancing the tax system's accountability, said one of the persons quoted above. Filed officers will also be asked to explain the average disposal time of grievances. The move is part of efforts to improve the ease of living and ease of doing business, which will complement the broader efforts at reforms and de-regulation. Sitharaman's meeting with Principal Chief Commissioners and other senior officials of the Income Tax Department aims to improve litigation management. The minister will review age-wise pendency of appeals and push for faster disposal of legacy cases, the person said. Issues related to tax refunds including those held up due to non-processing of tax returns under the automatic assessment process and cases where rectification of tax returns for issues like clerical error are impacted due to IT system-related problems will receive attention at the meeting, said the person. Field officers are expected to present data to the minister on pending taxpayer requests and grievances, their average disposal time and unresolved grievances in the department's online system e-Nivaran. The finance minister is likely to question the tax administration's zones with vigilance cases pending beyond permissible timelines and disciplinary matters pending for months, the person said. The minister will examine the best practices adopted by select regions and reiterate the need for a 'taxpayer-centric, tech-enabled, and transparent ecosystem across the Income Tax department,' added the person. Tax experts said the focus should be on setting up a robust framework to address the backlog of cases at the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) level. 'Introducing specified time limits for disposal of appeals is long overdue, and this would ensure greater accountability within the department and reinforce certainty for taxpayers,' said Amit Maheshwari, tax partner at AKM Global, a tax and consulting firm. 'Additionally, the present requirement of a 20% pre-deposit in high-pitched assessments should be reconsidered to ease the financial stress on taxpayers. The refund mechanism needs more transparency, and the grievance redressal system must be made significantly more responsive and efficient,' added Maheshwari. At a meeting in the capital with senior officials last week, Sitharaman reviewed the performance of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and urged swift closure of investigations, speedier tax refunds, and easier goods and services tax (GST) registration, Mint reported on Friday. The minister then asked the principal chief commissioners, chief commissioners, and director generals of CBIC to enhance performance, fill vacant posts, and enhance administrative efficiency. Queries emailed to the finance ministry on Friday seeking comments for the story remained unanswered at the time of publishing.

Israel-Iran war, oil prices likely to be key factors for markets this week

Indian stock market concluded the last week on a robust note, shrugging off mid-week volatility triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East and a spike in crude oil prices Press Trust of India New Delhi The domestic stock market will continue to monitor the Israel-Iran conflict and its impact on global supplies besides prices of crude oil this week, analysts said. Global trends and trading activity of foreign investors would also drive investors' sentiment during the week. The Indian stock market concluded the last week on a robust note, shrugging off mid-week volatility triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East and a spike in crude oil prices, an expert said. "This week, global cues will remain the dominant force, with a focus on geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel, US economic data, and commentary from the Federal Reserve officials. "Domestically, investors will closely monitor monsoon progress, volatility related to monthly expiry, crude oil price movements, and FII activity for further cues," Ajit Mishra,? SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. On Friday, the BSE Sensex surged 1,046.30 points, or 1.29 per cent, to settle at 82,408.17. The 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 319.15 points, or 1.29 per cent, to 25,112.40. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Ltd, said, geopolitical uncertainty continues to loom. "Investors will also keep a close eye on the upcoming US GDP and PCE (Personal Consumption Expenditure) data, along with India's PMI figures, for cues on the strength and direction of economic recovery at home and abroad," he said. Last week, the BSE benchmark gauge jumped 1,289.57 points, or 1.58 per cent, and the Nifty surged 393.8 points, or 1.59 per cent. "Looking ahead, global cues will remain key, with investors eyeing US manufacturing and services PMI, and further developments on the geopolitical front. Markets may consolidate with bouts of volatility," Siddhartha Khemka, Head, Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said. On FPIs movement, Vipul Bhowar, Senior Director, Listed Investments, Waterfield Advisors, said, "The trend of foreign portfolio investment experienced a reversal in April and demonstrated considerable strengthening in May, characterised by positive inflows. The inflows recorded in May represented the highest level observed in eight months, signifying a resurgence of interest from foreign investors in the Indian markets." Nonetheless, geopolitical tensions, including the conflict between Israel and Iran, alongside global uncertainties, fostered a cautiously optimistic pattern in June, he added.
