Diljit Dosanjh Shares Cryptic Post Amid Hania's Sardaar Ji 3 Casting Row: ‘Censored Before Release?'

Last Updated: Hania Aamir, who was also accused of making anti-India remarks after Operation Sindoor, continues to face online backlash. Diljit Dosanjh has sparked fresh speculation with a cryptic Instagram Story that read, 'Censored before release?" The post, which refers to his long-delayed film Punjab 95, comes at a time when the singer-actor is under fire for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. The horror-comedy, which is the third installment in the Sardaar Ji franchise, is skipping a theatrical release in India and will premiere overseas on Friday, June 27. This move follows criticism over Hania's casting and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam and India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor on May 7. Punjab 95, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has faced multiple delays and censorship hurdles. The film, which highlights extra-judicial killings of Sikh men in the late 1990s, was denied release earlier this year after the Censor Board proposed 120 cuts. View this post on Instagram A post shared by DILJIT DOSANJH (@diljitdosanjh) Khalra's widow, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, had opposed the cuts, stating, 'The biopic on my husband's life was made with the family's consent and should be released without any cuts." Earlier in January, Diljit's team and the film's producer Honey Trehan announced the postponement of Punjab 95, stating, 'The movie Punjab '95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control." Meanwhile, the casting of Hania Aamir has drawn further criticism after several Pakistani celebrities' Instagram accounts including Hania, Mahira Khan, Sanam Saeed, and Ali Zafar were blocked in India following a legal request post the Pahalgam attack. Hania, who was also accused of making anti-India remarks after Operation Sindoor, continues to face online backlash. Film bodies like the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have reiterated their stance against Pakistani artists working in Indian productions.
