Liverpool parade crash victims named for first time

Daily Mirror03-06-2025

Four people who were injured when a car was driven into crowds at Liverpool's Premier League victory parade can be named after reporting restrictions were lifted by a court.
Paul Doyle, 53, is charged with seven offences in connection with the crash, which happened on Water Street in the city centre as thousands of fans were gathered for the football team celebrations just after 6pm on May 26. He is accused of the unlawful wounding with intent of Simon Nash, 52, causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent to Susan Passey, 77, and Christine Seeckts, 66, and the attempted GBH of Ethan Gillard, 18.
An order preventing publication of their identities was put in place when Doyle first appeared before magistrates in Liverpool on Friday.
On Tuesday, Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC lifted restrictions, which had been made under Section 46 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999.
Doyle is charged with another count of wounding with intent and a second count of attempted GBH, which both relate to children, for whom reporting restrictions remain in place.
Doyle is also charged with dangerous driving. He is alleged to have driven his Ford Galaxy Titanium dangerously on roads between his home address in Burghill Road and Water Street. He was not required to attend the court hearing on Tuesday.
On Friday, Doyle appeared before magistrates in the morning, before a crown court appearance in the afternoon. Judge Menary fixed a trial date for November 24 and remanded the defendant in custody ahead of a plea hearing on August 14.
Earlier this week, Merseyside Police said the number of people reported injured after the incident had risen to 109. Four people remained in hospital on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson previously said: 'This is a complex and constantly evolving investigation and we are still working through and assessing those reporting being injured and our inquiries remain ongoing.
'I would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with us so far to give witness accounts or supply information or video footage. The response so far has been of great assistance in progressing the investigation.
'We have had more than 500 submissions to the Major Incident Police Portal (MIPP) and a team of detectives are currently working through the information provided. I would continue to appeal for anyone who has information and is yet to come forward to please get in touch as a matter of urgency.'
Those injured and their families are being supported by specialist officers and police are being assisted in the investigation by forces in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales and Cheshire.
Doyle is said to have been married to his wife for 20 years and is a father of three teenage sons. The family is reported to live in a £300,000 four-bedroom detached home on an estate. Photos on social media depict the family enjoying various holidays, including trips to Disneyland, Florida, Dubai and beach getaways.

Carroll — once the most expensive British Prem star — began dating Lou last year after his split from Towie star wife Billi Mucklow. One worker at the Nikolus Tavern said of the first argument: 'We recognised him as the footballer Andy Carroll immediately. 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' Police arrived and took the former Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham ace to one side for a chat. He was later allowed to return to Lou, 42. The shocked restaurant worker said: 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant.' But just hours later, police were called again by alarmed staff after reports of damage to the couple's room at a £500-a-night boutique hotel. Officers are said to have escorted him to a local station for questioning. Andy Carroll Caught Sneaking Back Into £8.5m Mansion He was not arrested and it is understood no further action was taken. A hotel worker confirmed the incident there, telling The Sun on Sunday: 'Yes, they were staying here. He broke the door.' That night, Lou quit the hotel and stayed at celeb haven Soho Roc House private members' club. The next day, Carroll was seen looking sombre sat at the edge of a pool at swanky SantAnna beach club, popular among Prem footballers including England aces Anthony Gordon and Curtis Jones. One onlooker said: 'Andy wasn't drinking and was just sitting there on his own.' A source in Mykonos said: 'After the restaurant episode, there was another incident at the hotel. This time the footballer went to the police station. We know the woman stayed somewhere else that night.' A British holidaymaker who spotted the pair while out for a stroll said: 'We passed the couple, who were clearly having a heated argument. The man who we later realised was Andy Carroll seemed very drunk and shouting at her, 'I'm done with us!'. 7 Girlfriend Lou quit the hotel and fled to exclusive Soho Roc House private members' club after the row Credit: Gary Stone 7 The couple stayed at the Agia Annabeach hotel Credit: Gary Stone 7 Cops are said to have escorted him to a local station for questioning Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 'Later in the taverna, they were seated next to our table. Andy seemed very angry. She remained silent. It did feel uncomfortable to the degree that my partner even considered intervening due to his behaviour. 'The police arrived and approached their table. Andy went to speak to officers, while the woman sat with her head in her hands. She appeared to be crying.' The onlooker, who asked not to be named, was also on the same easyJet flight home to Gatwick as the pair on June 13. She added: 'Andy still appeared to be angrily talking. At one point, she seemed to accuse him of going off with two other women while on holiday.' Snaps shared by Lou online show the couple on luxury jaunts in recent months. But she shared only one from Mykonos — a beach scene with neither of them in it. However, they appear to have patched up their differences, with the latest images shared including spending time together with Lou's dad on Father's Day last Sunday. Bearded Andy was reportedly planning to propose to Lou despite still being married to Billi, 36. The millionaire striker and wife confirmed their split last September. Weeks later, he and Lou revealed their romance. They moved to France after he joined fourth-tier club Bordeaux. But Carroll last week announced he was quitting the club to be closer to his children. As well as three with Billi, he has two from a previous relationship. A joint statement from Carroll and Lou last night said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The Mykonos hotel and police on the island declined to comment when contacted last night. 7 Carroll with ex Billi Mucklow on their wedding day Credit: INSTAGRAM

Pervert teaching assistant cries 'no' as he's arrested over sick videos of schoolgirls

Keiron Pickett, 24, had six videos stored on his iPhone, along with a collection of indecent images and disturbing notes about his students. A teaching assistant was caught filming a series of vile videos at the school where he worked, secretly recording up the skirts of Year 7 girls. Perverted Keiron Pickett had six such videos stored on his iPhone, along with a collection of indecent images and disturbing notes about his students. When officers arrived at the 24-year-old's home to arrest him, he cried "F***, no, no, no" and threatened to kill himself. ‌ Pickett's crimes were uncovered after Instagram flagged his "SniffSmoke0151" account and reported it to Merseyside Police on September 9, 2024. As reported by the Echo, Pickett, of Withington Road in Speke, Liverpool, had been linked to the account through his email address. ‌ On Friday, Prosecutor Cheryl Mottram told the city's Crown Court that his behaviour quickly "became more erratic," and he had to be handcuffed after making threats to kill himself. He did, however, hand over the password to his iPhone. Inside the device, officers uncovered 62 indecent images and one video in category A - the most extreme classification of abuse - along with 28 images and one video in category B, and 192 category C images. In addition to the six upskirting clips, Pickett had also saved a number of handwritten notes on the phone, which his own legal team described as 'fantasy letters' about his young pupils. He had also carried out several disturbing searches on TikTok related to children. The teaching assistant broke down in tears as he was locked up yesterday. Pickett, who has no previous convictions, was employed at the school in question via an agency between September 2023 and January 2024. Charles Lander, defending, told the court that his client had since completed a series of courses aimed at rehabilitating sex offenders, adding: "It is clear that he will find benefit in this. "He makes candid admissions. The realisation of what has happened to him would be difficult for anyone facing their first custodial sentence, but it is often more difficult for individuals with this kind of offending. He has got his head down. Your honour will have read about the death of his father and issues in his background during his childhood. But, ultimately, he engaged in the behaviour he did." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Pickett admitted operating equipment under clothing without consent, taking indecent images of children, five counts of making indecent images and possession of cannabis. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Under Armour t-shirt, he was seen wiping tears away before nodding as he was jailed for 20 months. Sentencing, Recorder Mark Ainsworth said: "You were employed as a teaching assistant. Plainly, that is a position of trust for two reasons. The students you were teaching were children, and, also, they had complex learning needs. In both ways, they could be regarded as vulnerable. ‌ "You were arrested. Your initial response was to panic. You were visibly distressed, and well you might have been, given that you knew what the police were about to discover. "Needless to say, behind each and every image was a child being sexually abused, some of those images showing the most serious forms of sexual abuse. These images do not show a victimless crime, far from it. The assumption has to be made that, if it was not for people like yourself providing a marketplace for such images, that abuse would not take place. "They were but part of what was discovered by the police. It is clear that, not only had you been downloading indecent images of children from the internet, you had been taking indecent photographs of children yourself. You had been abusing your position of trust at the school to take photographs of the very children you were there to look after and educate. "The notes you made at this time demonstrate what was going through your mind. I hope that you do not need me to tell you how abhorrent this sort of conduct is regarded by society." Pickett was also handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. He will be required to sign the sex offenders' register for the next decade.

Bootle shopkeeper stabbed in front of children say eyewitnesses

Witnesses described children running out of the shop and screaming for help, while bystanders tried to help the victim, who they said had collapsed by the shop entrance. A police spokesman said a knife was seized at the scene and detectives continue to question the suspect. Det Insp Gavin Mulcahy previously said the attack was being treated as a domestic assault and that no other suspect is being sought by police. Constantin Manzu, 40, who owns C&C Cakes opposite the scene, said he saw the aftermath of the stabbing and sheltered witnesses in his told the BBC: "I heard screaming. Mr Manzu said two customers who witnessed the attack stayed in his shop for a short time afterwards as "everyone was in shock".He said: "I can't describe it in words. I just literally burst into tears when I heard and I saw everyone crying and screaming.
