72 from Haryana's Super-100 programme clear JEE advanced
As many as 72 out of 193 students enrolled in the Super-100 programme in Kurukshetra, run by the Haryana government in partnership with the NGO Vikalp, have qualified the JEE Advanced examination this year. The programme, aimed at supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds, recorded a success rate of 37%.
Naveen Mishra, who heads the Kurukshetra centre, said the achievement reflects the transformative potential of the initiative. Sharing a particularly moving moment, he recalled how the father of Muskan, a student from Dinod village in Bhiwani, visited him to express gratitude. 'He told me they own just one acre of land and have five daughters. Affording even a basic private school was a struggle,' Mishra said. Muskan, who secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 1,383 in the EWS (economically weaker section) category, is now hopeful of a seat in an IIT.
Another student, Sufta Parveen from Faridabad, earned AIR 1,630 in the EWS category. Speaking over the phone, she credited the programme's rigorous schedule and dedicated teachers for her success. 'We attended classes from 9 am to 7 pm, followed by self-study till midnight. I joined the programme after hearing about it from a friend and cracking the entrance test,' she said. 'My father works in a private factory and my mother is a homemaker. This journey would not have been possible without the support of Naveen sir and his team,' she added.
Ravinder Jangra from Khatkar in Jind emerged as the programme's top performer, securing AIR 212 in the OBC category and overall AIR 1,267. Coming from a farming family with limited resources, he said the programme changed the course of his life. 'I had taken admission in Class 11 with Arts subjects. After qualifying for Super-100, I shifted to the non-medical stream. Without this opportunity, I would've had to continue with Arts and let go of my dream.'
The Super-100 programme was launched in 2018 by Naveen Mishra, a native of Madhubani in Bihar and an IIT Delhi alumnus. Despite twice reaching the UPSC interview stage, Mishra chose to dedicate himself to educational upliftment. Since its inception, six batches of students from the programme have appeared for JEE Advanced, with many achieving remarkable success against difficult odds.

Against all odds: Students from Karnataka residential schools secure top ranks in SSLC exams
MYSURU: In a remarkable testament to resilience and opportunity, the 2025 SSLC results from Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) residential schools underscore the transformative power of education for underprivileged students. Children from marginalised backgrounds-offspring of watchmen, midday meal cooks, and daily wage labourers-have not only excelled, but claimed top ranks across the state. The SSLC exam results were released earlier in May. Pruthvisha Govinda Gollarahalli, a student at Morarji Desai Residential School (MDRS) in Makanur, Haveri, clinched the state's first rank, scoring a perfect 625/625. His father, Govinda, a bike showroom watchman, and mother, Mamata, a midday meal cook, beamed with pride. "We anticipated strong results, but the top rank was beyond our dreams," Govinda said. Pruthvisha, who studied 12 hours daily, aspires to become an IAS officer. "My teachers and school made this possible," he said, crediting them for their unwavering support. Savitri Roni, a MDRS student from Halabhavi, Belagavi, scored 624/625. Her father, Lakshmana, an attendant at a private physiotherapy college, and her homemaker mother, Kamalavva, supported her despite financial hardship. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "My parents' encouragement, coupled with digital skills training, sports, and 5-6 hours of daily reading, kept me focused," Savitri said, thanking her principal and teachers. Bhoomika Suresh Okkaliga, from Kittur Rani Channamma Residential Sainik School in Uttara Kannada, also scored 624/625. Raised by daily wage labourers, she plans to pursue science in higher studies. "We supported the education of all our children as it is key for empowerment ," said her father, Suresha, despite their economic struggles. This year, 34,984 students from 788 KREIS schools appeared for the SSLC exams, achieving 91% pass rate. Notably, 34% earned distinctions, 56% secured first-class results, and 247 students shared the top 10 state ranks. Over 19% scored between 90% and 100%, a feat KREIS attributes to meticulous academic strategies. According to KREIS officials, success stems from rigorous planning, including timely syllabus completion, periodic assessments, and tailored remedial measures for slower learners. Micro-plans at the school level analyse student performance by subject and chapter, while macro-plans involve expert-led online orientations and teacher workshops. A dedicated Master Resource Persons team curates study materials and past papers, ensuring comprehensive preparation. Mobile-free campuses, co-curricular activities, and an Academic Excellence Committee further bolster holistic development, they explained. Many have qualified for JEE In the PUC level, 132 students qualified in the JEE Mains exam 2025, while 3 students qualified in the JEE Advanced exam 2025. 517 students qualified in NEET UG, out of which 329 students are expected to get seats in various medical and other colleges. A total of 4,213 students secured ranking in the K-CET exam 2025. As per the cut-off rank for various categories for engineering admissions under govt quota, 2,688 students are expected to get admission in good engineering colleges.

Croc seen in Powai lake, right behind IIT-B hostel
Mumbai: A local nature lover and Save Powai Lake activist recently spotted and photographed a crocodile at the lakeside, behind hostel 17 of the IIT-Bombay campus. The green activists have once again urged the civic body to fully clean Powai Lake to safeguard the biodiversity at this water body. Photographer Ramesh Kamble, with his Instagram handle posted a video of the crocodile observed behind the IIT-B hostel, which has created considerable interest among activists. NatConnect Foundation, which, along with local resident groups, is running a campaign to clean up and conserve the wetland, called for a census of the crocodiles in the lake. "There were supposed to be 18 crocodiles present in the lake as per a study done a few years ago, but a fresh crocodile count should be done now," NatConnect director B N Kumar said. Environmentalist D Stalin noted, "Besides water pollution at Powai lake, it is observed that the basking and nesting sites of crocodiles here are severely disturbed due to human activities. A new 5-star hotel building has been constructed near the lake, while IIT has also installed metal grills to stop crocscoming into their campus. I have earlier mentioned this to BMC."

BCD to set up centre for fire safety on IIT-Patna campus
Patna: Building construction department (BCD) is set to establish a 'Centre of Excellence for Fire Testing, Training, and Research Laboratory' on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed to set up the centre. The facility will assist in selecting modern equipment for fire safety in ongoing and future projects; evaluating the fire resistance of materials used; assessing damage to building structures after fires; retrofitting damaged structures, and investigating fire propagation patterns. The govt will spend around Rs 17.3 crore on this ambitious project, which was recently cleared by the state cabinet. Kumar Ravi, secretary of the BCD, said the facility will be a significant step towards ensuring fire safety in buildings. "A separate building for fire testing, training, and research centre will be constructed on the IIT-Patna campus, for which land will be allocated by the institute. All expenses related to the operation, human resources, training, equipment repair, and maintenance will be borne by the department for the first five years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo IIT-Patna will provide expertise, faculty support, and technical leadership in research activities," he said. "The facility will provide training to engineers on fire safety and engineering, rescue methods, assessment of damage to buildings after fires, and methods and measures for strengthening them, as well as training related to protective and rescue operations during fires. Additionally, it will also focus on the prevention of fire incidents and safety measures like sprinkler systems and smoke detection in buildings," Ravi told this reporter. Research at this facility will study the impact of fire on the structural components of buildings, the type of fire spread in multi-storey buildings, and the fire-resistant capacity of locally available construction materials. The secretary added, "The proposal for the MoU between BCD and IIT-Patna has been sent to the institute. Once it is finalised, the agency will be hired to prepare the detailed project report for the project."
