KMF to open Nandini outlets in 8 metro stations: Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 18 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said that the KMF (Karnataka Milk Federation) has been instructed to apply to Bengaluru Metro to open Nandini outlets in 8 metro stations. The Deputy CM's statement came after there was some criticism by opposition groups after Amul opened outlets at two Bengaluru metro stations.
Speaking to reporters at his official residence in Kumarapark, he said, 'BMRCL had called for a global tender and Amul was the lone applicant. We have instructed KMF to submit its application to BMRCL. KMF will open Nandini outlets in 8 metro stations. Amul has already opened its outlets in two metro stations. It is not appropriate to close down the existing outlets. We have informed the BMRCL to allow KMF to open Nandi outlets in the remaining 8 metro stations,' he added.
DK Shivakumar said that he had a meeting with the MLAs on the party organisation and Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation elections. He mentioned that the party leaders have discussed forming corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
'We had a meeting with our MLAs on party organisation and Greater Bengaluru Authority elections. The formation of corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority has been discussed with our leaders; it needs to be discussed with the Opposition leaders. We will take a decision, taking them into confidence,' he said.
He added that a helpline has been released for waste disposal under the Swachchaa Bengaluru initiative. Citizens can take photographs of garbage and send them to the helpline. Action will be taken against it in a week.

Replying to a query about whether there had been a discussion on issuing B katas, he said, 'This has been discussed in the Cabinet meeting. We will announce after deliberating on the legal aspects.' (ANI)

DK Shivakumar informed that the changes in the project will take place based on the suggestions of the ministers and asserted that he would study everything and raise the issue in the upcoming cabinet meeting. 'Yettinahole is an ambitious project. I flagged off the experimental operation today. The work is now complete, albeit with a delay of a few months.' 'Five of the eight barrages (viyars) are complete. About 1,500 cusecs of water have been lifted in the experimental operation. It will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister before the water levels drop. I came to see in person the completion of works,' he said. 'The project is 252.87 km long, of which 164 km of work is complete. Works on the 25.87-km canal are in progress. The works after 42nd km were affected due to a forest land acquisition issue, and hence it has been planned to supply water to Vani Vilas Sagar through an escape canal', he said. (ANI)

HDK can neither win nor form government, asserts Shivakumar

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday hit out at Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy saying he will neither win nor form a government in Karnataka. Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, 'Kumaraswamy had called on his supporters to get ready for a BJP-JDS government. I had then replied to him stating that I will present him a suit if he won the election and formed the government in 2028.' He was replying to a reporter who Kumaraswamy's statement that he wasn't that poor to take clothes from him. 'The Housing Minister has only transferred the quota of minorities from rural areas to urban area as the number of minorities is low in the rural areas. The quota is not being snatched from anyone to give it to minorities,' he clarified. 'As per the Sachar Committee report, minorities were given quota in rural areas also. But the quota was not being utilised as the number of minorities in rural areas was low. It is now being transferred from rural areas to urban areas. We are not snatching away anything from anyone. As much as 90% of the SC/STs have been given homes. The government can't provide funds unless they lay the foundation for the house,' he explained. 'Opposition parties are politicising this, let them do it. The government can't incur losses due to flats lying vacant. We had given the opportunity for SC/STs and their quota was over. We then transferred it to backward classes and general categories. We are a government which believes in equal life and equal share philosophy. Let them discuss our work in the Assembly session,' he added. Asked about B R Patil's accusation that houses are allotted under Rajiv Gandhi housing scheme only if bribes are paid, he said he was not aware of it.

‘Land acquisition issues, pending bills': Bengaluru's ‘Stonehenge' Ejipura flyover unlikely to be completed this year

Written by Bhoomika Roy Banerjee Taunted as 'Bangalore Stonehenge' and 'monument' on Google Maps, work for the Ejipura flyover in the city does not appear to be headed for completion anytime soon. With uncleared bills, land acquisition issues, and just 50 per cent of the construction complete over eight years, the flyover has been creating more troubles instead of easing congestion in the area. Meant to connect Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala to the inner Ring Road at Ejipura Junction, the flyover stretches across 2.5 km. Its construction was approved in 2014 and a tender was awarded in 2017 with a 30-month deadline. The project was supposed to be completed in November 2019 but the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) extended the deadline to December 2020 and imposed a penalty for delay. Despite protests from residents and elected representatives, nothing changed. However, after the Karnataka Congress government came into power, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said in August 2023 that an additional Rs 141 crore was required for the project and assured to solve the problem soon. 'It is really unfortunate that the project has been delayed. I will ensure that it is completed,' he said then. Last month, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that around 50 per cent of the flyover's work was complete and the rest was underway. 'Initially, there was no need for land acquisition, but the BBMP still went ahead and notified 32 properties. Issues related to one property and the St John's (hospital) property are likely to be resolved in the coming days,' he said, adding that pending bills for the completed works will also be cleared soon. 'In view of the monsoon, I have instructed officials to lay an additional layer of asphalt under the flyover to ensure smooth traffic movement. We expect 90–95 per cent of the work to be completed by December,' he said. However, an official associated with the project said they are yet to iron out land acquisition issues. 'A portion of land close to St John's Hospital is yet to be acquired. A meeting has to be held with the stakeholders,' the official told The Indian Express. As of now, 416 segments out of the planned 762 have been cast, and 291 segments have been erected, according to the BBMP. On the ground, commuters and shopkeepers remain frustrated. While construction is going on, its pace is slow. Mohan Kumar, a traffic police constable stationed at the site, says, 'Peak traffic hours are from 8 am to 11.30 am and from 4.30 pm to 9 pm. It is always congested, and when it rains it becomes worse.' Muthu, an employee at TVS which is located near the construction site, said part of the flyover now passes in front of his shop, which is a sign of recent progress but beyond that point, there are 'just bare pillars.' Alim Pasha, manager of the long-standing Sapphire Gift shop in the area, said the situation has affected business, especially for smaller shops. 'Business has been bad, and people barely come. The store is mostly empty. Even if they come, it is mostly during the afternoon when the traffic is moderate. When it rains, the place in front of the shop gets clogged, so there is hardly any access. This flyover is a tragedy,' he said. Bhoomika Roy Banerjee is an intern with The Indian Express.
