Black travel alert in place for Israel, Iran
Black travel alert in place for Israel, Iran The Hong Kong government has warned of the "highly unpredictable security situation" in Iran and Israel amid the ongoing conflict. Photo: Reuters Hongkongers should avoid making any trips to Israel and Iran, the government warned on Thursday, raising the outbound travel alert to "black" for both countries. The administration also advised residents who are in the two countries to leave or relocate immediately. The black alert, which indicates severe threat, is the highest level on a three-tier system that also includes amber and red warnings. Two other countries with a black alert are Lebanon and Syria. "Due to the highly unpredictable security situation in Israel and Iran, the [SAR] government advises Hong Kong residents to avoid all travel to Israel and Iran," a spokesperson said. "Those already there should attend to personal safety and leave or relocate to relatively safe regions immediately." Residents who require assistance may contact the Immigration Department or the Chinese embassy in the two countries, and the Security Bureau will continue to closely monitor the situation and issue updates. A total of 19 Hongkongers have so far sought help, according to the Immigration Department. Sixteen of them have already managed to leave the area. The latest conflict began when Israel launched a military attack on Iran, which led to retaliation by Tehran.

Helicopter crash kills 7 Hindu pilgrims in India's Uttarakhand
A helicopter carrying Hindu pilgrims crashed early on Sunday in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, killing seven people on board, officials said. The chopper was flying to Guptkashi, a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site in the Himalayas, from Kedarnath temple town, when it crashed. The accident occurred within minutes after the helicopter took off, officials said, on what should have been a 10-minute flight. The crash comes three days after an Air India flight fell from the sky and killed at least 270 people in Gujarat state. The London-bound Boeing 787 struck a medical college hostel in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff on Thursday, killing 241 people on board and at least 29 on the ground. One passenger survived. Nandan Singh Rajwar, a local disaster management official, said authorities have launched a rescue and search operation following the helicopter crash and are expected to review operational protocols for flights in the region. Officials said the crash was believed to have been caused by poor weather.
