KL Customs Thwarts Smuggling Of Agri-Drones, Liquor, Cannabis Buds

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) seized 20 drones for agricultural use worth RM1.56 million that were being smuggled in through the North Port in Klang.
Customs assistant director-general (enforcement) Raizam Setapa @ Mustapha said the seizure was made at 5.15 pm on April 23, following the detention of a 20-foot container at the port and an inspection in collaboration with the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) uncovered electronic goods consisting of drones.
'A thorough inspection revealed 20 units of DJI Agras T50 drones worth RM1.56 million, involving taxes and duties estimated at RM78,000.
'The drones were brought in from an Asian country for the local market and was declared as kitchen towels,' he said in a statement here today.
He said the importation of electronic merchandise such as drones required a Certificate of Approval (COA) from SIRIM before the merchandise is allowed into Malaysia.
In a separate case, Raizam stated that Kuala Lumpur Customs seized 21,351 litres of duty-free liquor worth RM2.81 million at North Port on May 7, hidden in a container carrying goods declared as furniture.
He said both cases were being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing prohibited goods.
Meanwhile, Raizam said KL Customs also thwarted an attempt to smuggle out about 10 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis flowers through the Mail and Courier Centre at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on April 29.
According to him, the package, which was declared to contain books, clothes, and toys, was seized after officers on duty scanned it and found images of organic material.

CCTV footage from the location has also been obtained. 'The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with weapons, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to public property. 'The police are actively investigating and intensifying efforts to track down all individuals involved. 'Anyone who has any information is urged to come forward to assist the investigation by contacting the Hilir Perak Police Station or the nearest police station,' said ACP Bakri.

New ‘Edisi Siasat 2.0' cannot be accessed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Telegram channel of 'Edisi Siasat 2.0', which was created after the 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' channels were blocked yesterday, is now also inaccessible to users of the platform. A Bernama check of the channel found that a warning displayed, saying 'This channel can't be displayed because it violated local laws (Malaysia)' and all content on the channel had also been deleted. Retiree loses over RM530,000 to Facebook investment scam

JOHOR BAHRU: A private sector retiree lost RM535,766 after allegedly falling victim to an online investment scam promoted via an advertisement on the Facebook application. Seri Alam District Police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the police received a report from a 57-year-old local man on Tuesday, who claimed losses exceeding RM500,000. He said the victim had come across a share investment advertisement on Facebook on March 13 that promised lucrative returns within a short time, and clicked on the provided link out of interest. 'Subsequently, the victim made 26 payment transactions into five different bank accounts between March 13 and June 5, totalling RM535,766. The victim was also asked to make additional payments to withdraw the so-called 'investment profits', but those requests were never fulfilled,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Sohaimi said the victim only realised he had been duped after repeated attempts to recover the investment funds proved futile. 'Preliminary checks via the CCID's 'Semak Mule' platform found that all five accounts involved had a total of 22 police reports linked to investment scams,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and police are also looking into the possible involvement of mule account holders.
