KL Rahul joins legends: Second only to Gavaskar abroad

Leeds, June 23 (UNI) India's KL Rahul etched his name deeper into the annals of Indian Test cricket history with a sublime century against England at Headingley on Monday, bringing up his 6th Test hundred as an opener outside Asia, second only to the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Rahul's century came in typically elegant fashion, drilled through the covers with a signature cover-drive, a shot so precise and authoritative that even the sweeper cover fielder stood no chance. The Indian opener returned for the second run with a roar of celebration, acknowledging the dressing room as applause echoed around the ground. KL Rahul now has the second-most Test hundreds by an Indian opener outside Asia (6), behind Sunil Gavaskar (15) and ahead of Virender Sehwag (4). Rahul's knock was built on steely resistance during the morning session on Day 4, where he weathered England's disciplined seam attack. Having done the hard yards, he capitalised in the second session to bring up what could prove to be a match-defining century for India as they aim to set a formidable lead. With this innings, Rahul not only boosts India's position in the ongoing Test but also reinforces his standing among India's all-time great overseas performers. UNI BDN RN
