JAKARTA, 19 June (Bernama) — A total of 15 interfaith organisations participated in a religious forum in Jakarta on Wednesday, aimed at fostering closer ties among scholars and promoting harmonious relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
In a statement, the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) announced that the Bicara Ad-Din Forum — an iconic programme produced by its radio station, IKIMfm — was organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Malaysia under the theme 'Membangun Negara Madani: Fiqh Nusantara dan Inspirasi Piagam Madinah.'

The Charter of Medina (Piagam Madinah), also known as the Constitution of Medina, was drafted by Prophet Muhammad shortly after the Hijrah from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE, and served as the foundation for establishing an inclusive and respectful civil society.
The Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin, described the programme as a positive step towards strengthening ties between the two kindred nations, whose populations are predominantly Muslim.
'In the Malaysian context, this programme provides an opportunity to appreciate the unique characteristics and differences between Malaysia and Indonesia. Although often perceived as similar, both nations possess distinct identities that deserve to be understood and embraced,' he said.
The Director-General of IKIM, Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Azam Mohamed Adil, explained that the forum emphasised a moderate approach to life as a means of fostering peace and harmony, grounded in the concept of Fiqh Ta'ayush — the principle of coexistence within a pluralistic society.
'The forum also explored the importance of drawing inspiration from the Charter of Medina in shaping a harmonious society, despite differences in cultural and religious backgrounds,' he said.
The panel comprised Deputy General Chairperson of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Zulfa Mustofa; Head of the Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Division of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim; and Mohamad Azam.

Do not take Israel-Iran conflict lightly, says Defence Minister

KOTA TINGGI: The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran should not be taken lightly as it could lead to a world war if not resolved properly, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The Defence Minister stated that although Malaysia is not involved in the conflict, the government will continue to monitor the situation. 'Conflicts like this, if not resolved properly, could lead to a world war. 'When this happens, people all over the world are affected as oil prices will spike and supplies will be cut off. Malaysia, as a trading nation, will also be affected,' he told reporters after attending a community ginger harvesting programme at Kampung Gembut, Sedili on Saturday (June 21). Mohamed Khaled added that flights are not allowed to enter or leave Iran at the moment, so Malaysians in the country will be brought out by land to Turkmenistan. 'They will then be flown back to Malaysia via commercial flights,' he said, noting that only a small number of citizens are involved and the repatriation efforts are being carried out by the Foreign Ministry. REUTERS/Denis Balibouse GENEVA, June 21 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Top European diplomats on Friday stressed the urgency of continued dialogue with Iran following talks in Geneva aimed at de-escalating regional tensions and reviving negotiations on Tehran's nuclear programme, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, met with his counterparts from the UK, France, and Germany (known as the E3), as well as Kaja Kallas, the EU's foreign policy chief. Indirect talks between Iran and the US had been taking place when Israel launched strikes against Iran's nuclear and military facilities on June 13, prompting retaliation. The tit-for-tat attacks have continued since then. bootstrap slideshow Speaking after the meeting, Kallas said the talks made clear that "regional escalation benefits no one," underlining the need to maintain open channels with Tehran. "We agreed that we will discuss nuclear but also broader issues that we have, and keep the discussions open" to make progress, she said. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy gave a similar message, urging Tehran to remain at the table. "We are keen to continue ongoing discussions and negotiations with Iran, and we urge Iran to continue their talks with the United States," he said. "This is a perilous moment, and it is hugely important that we don't see regional escalation of this conflict." French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stressed that the initiative had been closely coordinated with key allies and could lay the groundwork for broader negotiations.
