The district administration has taken steps for promoting country chicken farming in a big way by involving interested unemployed youth, who will be given 50% subsidised loan for this project.
Since the climatic condition prevailing in the district, particularly in the areas closer to the Western Ghats, is conducive for poultry farming, major thrust is being given for country chicken farming by involving unemployed youth.
According to District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore, the rural unemployed applicants who are interested in country chicken rearing should submit copy of their Aadhar card along with the application and other documents as prescribed. The government will give 50% of the total cost of the project or ₹1.65 lakh towards the construction of the sheds to keep 250 chicken, chicken feeder and drinker and chicken feed stocks sufficient for four months etc. and the remaining portion should borne by the entrepreneur, who can either avail loan or spend from his personal funds.
Each beneficiary, who should own a minimum of 625 square feet land for erecting the sheds, will be given 4-weeks-old 250 chicken from the district animal husbandry farm at 50% discount. The land identified for the farm should be away from residential areas and the chitta / adangal of this land should be submitted along with the application to establish the ownership of the land. The applicant, who should not have availed this subsidised loan in the past three years (since 2022), should give an undertaking before the release of the loan that he or she would run the farm at least for 3 years.
Priority will be given for widows, destitute, physically challenged and the transgender.
Aspiring individuals should submit their applications with the veterinary dispensary or the Assistant Veterinarians, Mr. Kamal Kishore said.
