Govt. attracted investments of ₹9.2 lakh crore in 11 months: T.G. Bharat
Industries Minister T.G. Bharat on Tuesday said that the Alliance government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has attracted investments worth ₹9.2 lakh crore within 11 months, an achievement the previous YSRCP regime failed to match in five years. The investments are expected to generate over 8.5 lakh employment opportunities.
Mr. Bharat participated as the chief guest at the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) Excellence Awards-2025. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the government's industry-first approach. Restoring investor confidence and resolving long-standing concerns of the industry was the focus of the government, he said.
The Minister highlighted that Andhra Pradesh now has the most competitive industrial policies in the country. He urged entrepreneurs to leverage State-provided incentives and cited the 'Speed of Doing Business' initiative for expediting approvals. He also called on businesses to participate in the P4 (People-Public-Private Partnership) model for inclusive growth.
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat urged industry leaders to identify challenges and contribute by offering transformative ideas. 'Your innovation could be the game changer Andhra Pradesh needs,' he said.
Hailing the State's MSME policy, FAPCCI president Kankatala Mallikharjuna Rao highlighted its generous incentives for tourism projects, which include a five-year 100% SGST exemption from the start of commercial production, full reimbursement of land conversion fees, and industrial tariffs for power bills. He assured that all reimbursements would be processed within six months.
The awards were presented in 11 categories. Nekkanti Sea Foods Ltd, Visakhapatnam, was honoured for excellence in agri and aqua-based industries. Other winners included Ananda Enterprises (export performance—MSEs), Efftronics Systems (product innovation), and Ms. Annandi Suneetha (outstanding woman entrepreneur). Other companies recognised were Steelon Call (start-up), Divi's Laboratories (CSR), ITC – Agri Division (employee welfare), CCL Products (all round performance), Dalmia Cement (green energy), Aravind Industries (rural entrepreneurship), and Sarda Metals (Export – Large & Medium Enterprises).

14-day remand for man who waved provocative placard at Jagan rally
1 2 Vijayawada: The man who waved 'Rappa Rappa' placards during former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy 's public meeting recently was arrested and produced at Sattenapalli court, which sent him in judicial remand for 14 days. B Ravi Teja, a resident of Krosuru, was seen holding placards with a slogan combined with a dialogue from 'Pushpa' movie. The slogan claimed that after YSRCP returns to power in 2029, heads will be chopped like in Gangamma Jathara (Rappa Rappa Narukutham). The placards with the beheading threat sparked a row, following which police registered a case against him. A habeas corpus petition was moved before the high court for Teja on Friday by his family members, alleging that his whereabouts were not known. They sought directions to the police to produce him before the court. However, the public prosecutor informed the high court that Teja was arrested in the case, and was being produced before the magistrate concerned as per the norms. On Saturday, police produced him before Sattenapalli court and sought remand in view of the ongoing investigation. Considering the remand report submitted by the police, the magistrate sent him to 14 days of judicial remand.

Invoking anti-gangster law to counter one communal violence incident triggered by a social media post is misuse: SC
The Supreme Court has concluded that the use of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act — a law meant to counter organised crime — in a solitary case of communal disturbance caused by an 'incendiary' social media post, amounts to a misuse of the stringent penal law. The recent judgment, authored by Justice Sandeep Mehta, came after the court heard an appeal filed by people accused under the State law for mobbing and vandalising the business establishment of a man who posted content derogatory to a particular religion on social media. 'When juxtaposed with the object and intent of the U.P. Gangsters Act, which was enacted to combat organised gang-based crime and dismantle criminal syndicates that pose a persistent threat to public order, the application of the Act to the appellants based on a single incident of communal violence flaring up from an incendiary post made against a particular religion represents a significant departure from its legislative purpose,' Justice Mehta wrote. 'Colourable exercise of power' The judgment said the application of the Gangsters Act in the current case bore the 'hallmark of colourable exercise of power for purposes extraneous to the Act's legitimate objectives'. The court reminded the State government of Article 21 of the Constitution that 'no person shall be deprived of life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law'. Justice Mehta observed that the procedure prescribed by law must be fair, just, reasonable, and not arbitrary, presumptive, or oppressive. The constitutional guarantee of personal liberty acquired even greater significance when an 'extraordinary legislation with stringent provisions' like the U.P. Gangsters Act was invoked by the State, he said. 'The power conferred upon the State cannot be wielded as an instrument of harassment or intimidation, particularly where political motivations may be at play,' Justice Mehta emphasised. 'Need solid evidence' Extraordinary penal provisions, particularly those that substantially abridge regular procedural safeguards like the U.P. Gangsters Act, must be invoked only if the evidence met a threshold of credibility and substantiality. 'The materials relied upon must establish a reasonable nexus between the accused and the alleged criminal activity… When a statute creates serious fetters on personal liberty, the evidentiary foundation for its invocation must be commensurately strong, supported by concrete, verifiable facts rather than vague assertions,' the top court held. Quashing the FIR and allowing the appeal, the court said the case failed to meet the 'essential threshold' required to invoke the Gangsters Act. It had rested 'largely on presumptive theories rather than presenting tangible material to establish the probability that the appellants were engaged in organised criminal activity,' the court said.

Enthusiasm marks International Day of Yoga in Andhra Pradesh
The month-long Yogandhra campaign organised across Andhra Pradesh culminated in the International Day of Yoga-2025 held on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers, and Ministers participated. The officials and staff of various departments, who had toiled day in and day out, heaved a sigh of relief as the mega event passed off without any major glitches. Contrary to the alerts of possible rain that threatened to mar the mega event, the cool breeze in the early hours, followed by the sun casting its rays after dawn provided relief to the organisers. A beaming Prime Minister heaped lavish praise on the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, and had a special mention of the work done by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh in the smooth conduct of the month-long event. Mr. Modi said that Mr. Lokesh had set an example for others to emulate in the conduct of such mega events. Later, at a review meeting, Mr. Naidu commended the Ministers, MLAs, officials, and staff for the success of the event across the State. In NTR district, 9 lakh people had taken part in the yoga sessions organised at every Grama Sachivalayam. In Vijayawada, more than 5,000 people gathered at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, where a huge screen was set up for the live telecast of the main event from Visakhapatnam. District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu were among the officials who took part. At the Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district, Collector J. Venkata Murali, along with 10,000 people, participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. Many participated in various other locations across the district. In Palnadu district, a total of 9.97 lakh people participate in the yoga sessions at 5,000 venues. Collector P. Arun Babu participated at the district headquarters, where around 10,000 people participated, the I&PR Department said. In Guntur district, Collector S. Nagalakshmi participated along with 5,000 participants at the Police Parade Grounds in Guntur city. A total of 9.70 people participated at 5,130 venues. An overwhelming participation of over 8 lakh people was witnessed under the Yogandhra- 2025 initiative across the Chittoor district. In Chittoor, Collector Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikantha Chandolu, and officials joined the public in the yoga day event at the District Police Grounds. At Rayachoti in Annamayya district, over 5,000 people took part in the event, led by Collector Sridhar Chamakuri. In Hindupur of Sri Sathya Sai district, Collector T.S.
