Legendary Filipino Singer & Voice Of Iconic Song 'Anak,' Freddie Aguilar, Passes Away Aged 72
Fans around the world are in shock over the news that Freddie Aguilar, the legendary Filipino folk singer-songwriter, whose heartfelt ballads became anthems of family, identity, and resistance, has passed away. The cause of his death is not immediately known.
The passing of the 72-year-old, who entered Filipino politics later in life, was confirmed on 27th May (Tuesday), by George Briones, general counsel of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), where Aguilar was former national executive vice president.
Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar began composing music at just 14 and shot to international fame in the late 1970s with the iconic song 'Anak' ('Child'), a poignant reflection on remorse and reconciliation. Inspired by his own experiences after leaving home at 18, 'Anak' became the Philippines' best-selling single of all time, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide, and being translated into 20 languages.
Aguilar's music transcended entertainment, often serving as a vehicle for social commentary. His rendition of 'Bayan Ko' ('My Country') became an unofficial anthem during the 1986 People Power Revolution, rallying Filipinos in their fight for democracy. Throughout his career, he remained a vocal advocate for the marginalised, using his songs to highlight issues of poverty, injustice, and national pride.
Known for his social activism, it came as no surprise that Aguilar would later devote his life to politics. Among his many political achievements was the introduction of the 'Tax-Free Balikbayan Box' Act, which aimed to provide better support and protection for Overseas Foreign Workers (OFWs) from the Philippines.
Condolences have been pouring in over the star's death – from fans and celebrities alike – with many promising that he will live on through them and the music he leaves behind. His legacy shall be remembered with the music that he produced and the hardships he went through, which continue to inspire and resonate with generations of Filipinos and music lovers around the world.
Hype extends our condolences to the legend's family with the hope that he will forever be remembered.
Let's honour him by remembering what he left behind:

Fifth Solomon taken to hospital after mental breakdown caused by online bullying
Photo: Fifth Solomon/Instagram Fifth Solomon (pic) was taken to an emergency room after he suffered a mental breakdown, which he said was caused by online bullying. The Filipino actor-director gave a health update through his Facebook on Monday, June 16, saying, 'I'm okay now. I'm in the ER with my sister Balitang Inaaaaa!' referring to comedian Chariz Solomon. He said he had 'a mental breakdown because [of] the online bullying. Thanks for all the people who reached out.' He added that he is set to release a statement although he did not immediately expound on the matter. In a prior post, Solomon addressed the bashing he had been receiving online, enumerating the most common remarks thrown at him. 'Retokada. Flop. Baliw (crazy). Mental hospital. DDS (Diehard Duterte Supporter). Incerun. Too fem — Call me names. Laugh all you want. I've heard worse. Survived worse,' he said. 'I grew up with no blueprint, no guidance, no safety net. So I taught myself how to fight, how to bite back. The world isn't kind. I stopped trying to be,' he added. Solomon then reflected on how some people 'play clean' but 'enjoy watching others fall.' 'But me? You can't bring me down. Only the people I love have that power. And even then, I'll still get up,' he said. 'I know who I am. I know what I'm worth. No one gets to rewrite that,' he added. Solomon appears to have been discharged from the hospital as he showed himself walking in an outdoor area. Solomon rose to fame in 2014 after he joined the reality show Pinoy Big Brother . – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network

Filipino actress Michelle Dee bitten in the face by pet dog
Michelle Dee rushed to get medical help after her pet dog bit her in the face and left a torn wound on her cheek. Photos: Michelle Dee/Instagram Michelle Dee rushed to get medical help after her pet dog bit her in the face and left a torn wound on her cheek. The Filipino actress-beauty queen showed her face with patches on her cheek and chin, through her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, June 3. 'My unexpected Tuesday plot twist,' she captioned her post. 'Sa mukha ko pa talaga.' (It even had to be on my face.) In a succeeding post, Dee showed herself at the clinic of celebrity doctors Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho. The Miss Universe Philippines 2023 also gave a closer look at the wound on her face. 'No matter how much we love your furbabies, never underestimate dog bites!' she reminded her followers. 'Act quick.' Belo, who came to Dee's rescue, wrote in a separate post, 'We got you, Michelle!' Just last February, another celebrity fur parent, actress Alma Concepcion, shared that she and her son were bitten by their pet dog. The actress regarded the incident as a learning experience for her and her family, saying that while their dog is kind, they would refrain from cuddling him as it might prompt another biting incident. 'I'm sad about this change. But over-all he is kind. He's potty trained and with the looks of it, he is very sorry,' Concepcion said. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
