Courtney Kessel in final discussions to take over as Princeton women's hockey coach, AP sources say

Boston Fleet coach Courtney Kessel is in final discussions to take over as women's hockey coach at Princeton, two people with knowledge of talks told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
The people spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because Kessel's hiring is not complete and the process could take weeks to finalize.

The move would be a homecoming for Kessel, who previously served as an assistant at Princeton under Cara Gardner Morey. She would succeed Gardner Morey, who left the Tigers in May upon being hired as general manager of the PWHL's expansion team in Vancouver.
Kessel's ties to Princeton played a major role in her decision to pursue the job. The choice to leave the PWHL was considered a difficult one for the 35-year-old, who is proud of the relationships she formed with staff and players in helping launch the Fleet. She had a 27-19-8 record with the franchise.
Boston reached the Walter Cup finals last year in its inaugural season, where it lost a decisive Game 5 to Minnesota. This season, the Fleet missed the playoffs by the slimmest of margins.
From Toronto, Kessel played at New Hampshire, where she was a 2010 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the MVP of women's college hockey. She also represented Canada at three world championships, including a gold-medal win in 2012.

After four years as an assistant at Princeton, Kessel served as associate head coach at Boston University in 2023-24 before being hired as the Fleet's first coach.
The Fleet have undergone major changes this offseason. Star forward Hilary Knight left Boston to sign with the PWHL's expansion team in Seattle. The Fleet also have an opening at assistant general manager after Meghan Turner was hired as Seattle's GM.
The PWHL will now have three coaching vacancies, with Seattle and Vancouver having yet to fill their positions.
Princeton's program flourished during Gardner Morey's eight seasons as coach. The Tigers won their first Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament title in 2020 as part of a school-record 26-win season.

Qualifying Notes: Kyle Moyer Lands New Job with Arrow McLaren
INDYCAR Kyle Moyer's time as a free agent didn't last long. The veteran team manager who was one of three executives released last month by Team Penske has been hand-picked by Arrow McLaren Team Principal Tony Kanaan to join the Indianapolis-based NTT INDYCAR SERIES program. Moyer will be the organization's director of competition beginning with next week's test at Iowa Speedway. Kanaan and Moyer worked together for years at Andretti Global when Kanaan was a driver. Moyer was the team manager when Kanaan won the INDYCAR SERIES championship in 2004. Moyer left Michael Andretti's team in 2015 to join Roger Penske's organization. Moyer, along with Team President Tim Cindric and Managing Director Ron Ruzewski, were released by Team Penske in advance of the recent Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge after the cars of defending champion Josef Newgarden and Will Power were found with unapproved modifications ahead of qualifying. At Arrow McLaren, Moyer will replace Kanaan as the race strategist for Nolan Siegel, allowing Kanaan to work with all three Arrow McLaren drivers on race weekends. Kanaan told the Associated Press that almost every team in the paddock tried to hire Moyer, but the relationship the two of them have gave McLaren the edge. 'Kyle is one of the best strategists in the paddock, so talking about his qualities, not just about him as a human being, he knows a lot about racing,' Kanaan told the AP. Kirkwood Credits Decision Making to Surge Series points leader Alex Palou had the spotlight for most of the first half of the season. A dominant start featured five wins in six races, including an Indy 500 victory, and made him the undisputed championship favorite. But lately, Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood has turning heads – and is turning the title tide. Kirkwood has surged to third in the standings, 75 points behind Palou, thanks to wins in the only three races Palou hasn't claimed. Kirkwood had just two wins in his first 53 series races. He now has three wins in the past six races. 'I think he's always been there,' Colton Herta said of his teammate heading into Sunday's XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR (1:30 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network). 'Maybe he's gotten a little bit better at how to race and when to go fast in races, and that just comes (with experience). But I think he's driving pretty similar to last year. He cited last year's fifth-place finish at Road America as an example of when pushed too hard early in the race trying to stave off eventual third-place finisher Scott McLaughlin. Dixon Penalized for Impeding DeFrancesco Six-time series champion Scott Dixon said he was trying to create a gap to maximize his chances of advancing in qualifying, but race officials said Dixon impeded the hot lap of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Devlin DeFrancesco during the first round of qualifying. The penalty proved costly to the Chip Ganassi Racing veteran. Rather than advancing to the Fast 12 and perhaps earning a top-10 starting position, Dixon lost his two fastest laps and was reduced to the 25th starting position. Only three times in his career has he started farther back, including 26th earlier this year in the Children's of Alabama INDYCAR Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park. He finished 12th in that race. Camille Kostek is opening up about the not-so-glamorous side of dating a professional athlete. The Sports Illustrated model, 33, claimed she was judged by other NFL wives for not being married to boyfriend and former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski, 36. "I felt like I was seen as a lesser-than girlfriend because I didn't have a ring on my finger," she shared on an episode of Kristin Cavallari's "Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour," according to US Weekly. "But you want to know what's so interesting about that? The woman that's coming to mind [who] judged me the most, she's divorced." Reps for Kostek did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Kostek was first linked to Gronkowski in 2015. They previously met in 2013 when the pinup was a cheerleader and Gronkowski was in his third season with the New England Patriots. "Rob and I met when I was 21 years old, and we've been in each other's lives for 10 years," she added. "First breakup was in 2017, but I think that some of the best things that changed the trajectory of my life came from this f---ing breakup that broke me but also allowed me to get in the zone. I didn't care about dating. I felt like I was asexual." Kostek revealed that she decided to chase her dream after the heartbreak. "In that year, I decided to audition for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, which was on my bucket list. I cared about pursuing the things that brought me joy. There were so many things I was destined to want to do, and then I happened to date an athlete, and it was like, 'You are a WAG.'" WAG stands for wives and girlfriends. In May 2024, Kostek shared with Fox News Digital the NFL rule she broke to be in a relationship with Gronkowski. "There is that rule where [you] cannot date the players," Kostek told Fox News Digital at the time. "I broke that one, but I kept it a secret for a little while. It was worth it in the end. "We read our calendars to each other," she chuckled. "We don't spend every waking moment together, so it's exciting for us to get on the phone. It's a common thing weekly to get on the phone together when we're in different states and put out our calendars. "It was my sister's wedding in St. Thomas, and we had our calendars together. We were down on the beach, and I said, 'I have the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit launch. It's a big one. It's the Legends issue. So, I'm going to be in New York for the first half of the week and then the second half of the week in Miami. And he's like, 'Perfect, I have a podcast to record in New York. I'll be there for your event.' And I'm like, 'Perfect.'"
