
Employee fired for putting ‘stop crying' sticker in office bathroom: ‘Had approval from HR'
A harmless April Fools' prank led to unexpected job loss for a Canadian employee, who says they were fired after placing a 'stop crying' sticker on the mirror in a staff washroom. The employee shared a Reddit post to narrate their story and claimed that the prank had approval from the HR department.
The former employee said that they were in disbelief that just a day after the prank, they were informed by their boss that they were fired.
They said that the sticker which read "employees must stop crying before returning to work' was intended as a lighthearted joke to lift spirits of their coworkers. 'Everyone besides the boss knew what I was doing because I had joked about doing it as an April fools joke and HR said to do it and even told me what washroom to put it in," they wrote.
However, the next day when the employee returned to work, their belongings had been moved. The employee immediately went to their boss's office and took full responsibility for the prank. 'I knew immediately I was getting suspended for it. I had full intentions of admitting it and speaking with him about it so that's what I continued to do that morning. I didn't want anyone getting blamed. As soon as I went in his office I explained to him that as a leader I shouldn't have done that. And said sorry. He then told me we have to let you go," they recounted.
The worker claimed they had no prior write-ups or disciplinary actions in their record over their 10-month tenure.
The ex-employee believes the sticker was the last straw after they had a disagreement with their boss four months earlier about currency handling.
'My heart is broken because a lot of the staff believed in me as a leader. My ex-boss cried too after everything was said. Which I thought was weird. Should I go to the labour board or is it a bad case of he said she said?' they asked Reddit.
Reddit users were divided over the prank as some believed it was in bad taste while others agreed that the employee was let go because of other disagreements.

The incident was flagged as a data breach by the company, leading to an immediate revocation of his resignation and termination of employment. 'What's worse — I don't have any exit documents. No experience letter, no clearance, nothing — just a termination letter,' he added. The lack of documentation has had serious consequences for the analyst's job search. 'Now when I apply to other companies, I can't pass background verification. In fact, in a recent BGV with another reputed firm, my old company red-flagged me.' He admits to having made a poor judgment call, but said the punishment feels disproportionate. 'I understand I made a mistake. I should've been more careful and transparent. But now it feels like my entire career is derailed over one bad judgment call.' In India, background verification is a standard procedure for white-collar jobs, and missing or negative exit records can severely hinder future employment. The analyst says recruiters often ghost him after the checks. 'I'm finding it really hard to even get a chance to explain myself to recruiters.' The emotional toll has been immense. 'This situation has really taken a toll on my confidence and mental peace,' he wrote, concluding the post with a plea: 'If there's anyone who's willing to help or even just guide me, I'd be really grateful.' Canada says network devices compromised in China-linked hack
Canada's cybersecurity agency said Chinese-backed hackers were likely behind recent malicious activity targeting domestic telecommunications infrastructure, warning that three network devices registered to a Canadian company were compromised in the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation urged Canadian organisations to take steps to harden their networks against the threat posed by Salt Typhoon, a group linked to the Chinese government, in a bulletin issued late on Friday.'The Cyber Centre is aware of malicious cyber activities currently targeting Canadian telecommunications companies,' the center said. 'The responsible actors are almost certainly PRC state-sponsored actors, specifically Salt Typhoon,' it said, referring to the People's Republic of China. Separate investigations that revealed overlaps with malicious indicators consistent with Salt Typhoon suggest the cyber campaign 'is broader than just the telecommunications sector,' it said. The hackers will 'almost certainly' continue efforts to infiltrate Canadian organizations — especially telecom providers — over the next two years, the agency said. Beijing has repeatedly denied US allegations of its involvement in Salt Typhoon, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal last year. In January, the US sanctioned a Chinese firm accused of 'direct involvement' in the infiltrations along with the country's Ministry of State Security.

Kanishka bombing: Canada police finally know who 'Mr X' was but name withheld citing privacy laws
On 23 June 1985, a mid-air bomb explosion on Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland left all 329 people on board dead. En route from Montreal to Mumbai via London, the aircraft had Canadian citizens of Indian origin as the majority of its passengers. On Saturday, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, while not identifying 'Mr X', confirmed his death during an event marking 40 years since the bombing, with dozens of relatives of the victims attending the memorial. New Delhi: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has finally uncovered the identity of 'Mr X', a man involved in testing a bomb in Vancouver Island only weeks before the Kanishka bombing, but has not revealed it, citing Canadian privacy laws. For the longest time during the Kanishka bombing probe, investigators kept identifying one of the men behind the testing of the bomb as 'Mr X' because they could not pin down who he was. He reportedly died not very long ago without facing any charges, according to Canadian police. The revelation comes at a time when diplomatic relations between Canada and India have shown signs of recovery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada earlier this month. During the summit, India and Canada 'agreed to take calibrated and constructive steps to restore stability' in their relationship, starting with the 'early return of High Commissioners' to the each other's capitals. Bilateral ties had been under strain since former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of killing Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia last year. India had rejected the accusation, calling it 'absurd'. However, soon, there was a pullback in diplomatic ties between the two countries. India then suspended visas for Canadians, and both countries expelled each other's diplomats in a tit-for-tat move. In his address at the memorial Saturday, David Teboul said that after the acquittals of key Kanishka bombing suspects in 2005, investigators had continued to work the case in the hopes of resolving 'loose ends', eventually finding out the identity of the man, who helped test the type of bomb that brought down the AI flight 40 years ago. According to the RCMP, 'Mr X' travelled to Duncan, Vancouver Island, with the Kanishka bombing mastermind, Talwinder Singh Parmar, on 4 June, 1985. The two men joined Inderjit Singh Reyat, an electrician by profession, and went deep into a wooded area to test an improvised explosive device (IED). Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) agents reportedly surveilled the trio after they heard an explosion in the area but mistakenly believed the sound to be coming from a gunshot and could not accuse the three of any wrongdoing. Inderjit Singh Reyat, the only person ever convicted in the bombing, pleaded guilty to aiding in the construction of the bomb that exploded on AI-182 but claimed that he did not know the identity of 'Mr X'. During the trial, Reyat committed perjury, which led to a longer sentence. Reyat has since served his time in prison and is now out of jail. Talwinder Singh Parmar, the alleged mastermind of the bombing and founder of the banned Babbar Khalsa separatist group, was killed in a shootout with Punjab police in 1992. During the memorial, David Teboul noted that while the investigation had continued, 'there was very little realistic chance of seeing the matter go to another trial'. He added that the Kanishka bombing had been the 'largest act of terrorism' in the history of Canada. 'So we, RCMP, have an obligation to memorialise it and pay respect every year,' Teboul told the assembled gathering. A bomb in a suitcase set off mid-air in Air India Flight 182, killing 329 people, 307 passengers and 22 crew members. On board were 268 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens, and 4 Indian citizens. The majority were of Indian ancestry. Soon after, a second bomb on another Air India flight exploded prematurely at Tokyo's Narita airport, killing two baggage handlers.
