The Penang native said he took his time before entering politics, wanting to assess things carefully.

Dzulkifli, now an ordinary member with no formal pact with party leaders or voters, said he chose Umno to help revive the once-dominant Malay party and offer it a fresh start. 222 Johor projects worth RM10b yet to start, says MB

JOHOR BARU: Johor has 222 projects scheduled between 2016 and 2024 that have yet to commence. The projects, worth around RM10 billion, include various public facilities such as roads, mosques, hospitals and clinics, said Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. "When I ask in meetings, they say, 'Don't worry, we'll check with the respective ministries, we'll get it approved.' "All these projects are for the people, but they still haven't started," he said in his speech at the 2025 Umno Tebrau division delegates' meeting here on Saturday. Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor Umno liaison chairman, said Umno leaders in the state risk incurring public anger if the projects are not implemented. "Council members, village heads, community leaders – don't just attend meetings to look good. "If the projects don't go through, if the allocations are not used properly and appropriately, let me ask – who will the people be angry with? "At the agency? Or at the Umno leaders? They will be angry with us. That's why we need to go down to the ground and inspect things ourselves," he said. The Machap assemblyman said the federal government should place its trust in the state leadership to approve and implement projects in Johor. He suggested that the federal government initiate a pilot programme with Johor to evaluate the proposal's effectiveness. "If you don't want to implement it nationwide, make Johor the pilot state. "Insya-Allah, the Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders in Johor can be trusted and will shoulder these responsibilities for religion, race and homeland," he said. Onn Hafiz expressed disappointment at the lack of implementation. "I don't like making people angry. "But when it comes to the welfare of the people, don't test me. I will fight all the way for the people – for the people of Johor. That is the spirit of Johor Umno. "What we say is not just rhetoric. If we say it, Insya-Allah, we will deliver it," he said. Also present at the event were Johor Umno liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Johor Umno secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman, who is also Tebrau Umno division chief.

MACC to question 20 witnesses in highway probe

KUALA LUMPUR: About 20 witnesses will be called by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) next week as part of its ongoing probe into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds meant for the construction of a highway in the Klang Valley. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this includes recalling witnesses who had previously given statements in order to gather further information on the fund, which is worth millions of ringgit. He said the commission aimed to complete the investigation paper within two months. "As of now, the investigation team is scrutinising various documents, including bank records that we must analyse, and recording statements from bank personnel to verify the contents of the bank statements," he told Buletin TV3 today. However, he said that there is currently no need to conduct a new search or recall the corporate figure with a "Tan Sri" title who has been linked to the case. MACC investigators had recorded the corporate figure's statement three times, working alongside a tactical team due to suspicions of weapon and asset possession related to the misappropriated funds. MACC has so far seized RM141 million worth of assets in Malaysia linked to the case and is currently tracking RM15 million in foreign assets.
