IPL 2025 awards: Suryakumar Yadav crowned MVP; Emerging Player of the Season, Orange Cap, Purple Cap winners announced

Mumbai Indians' (MI) dynamic batter Suryakumar Yadav was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the Season, while Gujarat Titans' (GT) consistent top-order star Sai Sudharsan was adjudged the Emerging Player of the Season following the conclusion of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (June 3, 2025).
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended its 18-year-long IPL trophy drought by trouncing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a pulsating final.
Punjab misfired in its attempt to gun down Bengaluru's 191-run target and, in the end, stood one hit away from turning its sorrow into euphoria. Krunal Pandya bamboozled Punjab batters with his spin, while Josh Hazlewood added the finishing touches with his searing pace to cap off an impressive outing with the ball.

After the final, India's T20I captain, Suryakumar, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Season after he enjoyed a stellar season with the bat. He ended the tournament with 717 runs in 16 games with five fifties at an average of 65.18. In his splendid season, the 34-year-old star became the first non-opener to have a 700-run Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan brushed off competition from Priyansh Arya, Noor Ahmad, and other youngsters and walked away with the Emerging Player of the Season award.
Sudharsan ended at the top of the run-getters chart with 759 runs, ahead of Suryakumar, Shubman Gill, Mitchell Marsh and Virat Kohli. He had an average of 54.21, with a strike rate of 156.17, a century and six fifties.
His best score was 108*. His side's journey came to an end with a loss to the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the eliminator.
His teammate Prasidh Krishna spearheaded the pace attack and clinched the Purple Cap with 25 scalps in 15 matches at an average of 19.52, best figures of 4/41. Noor Ahmad, Josh Hazelwood, Trent Boult and Arshdeep Singh made up the top five in the list of highest wicket takers of this season.

'Because after (the) Australia (tour) and England series (followed by) Champions Trophy and then we had IPL, I wouldn't say that I had a lot of time to do things (with Gill).' 'But obviously, he worked on certain things and as soon as I saw him in the nets, I did speak to him that 'you made certain changes' and he said yes. A lot of credit to him for analysing what he needs to do and I think he did it really well,' Kotak said. But I think after 350 for three, you expect to get a big score because that time you are sitting in a comfortable position. I don't think people were satisfied at all,' he said. 'It is just (how) they (England) bowled well and (there were also a) couple of soft dismissals. 'After losing the toss the way we batted it was very good because at Headingley, normally on Day One, a lot of wickets get taken by the bowling side and results also show the same so we batted well on the first day,' he added. Kotak on Bumrah's wicket off a no-ball In the final minutes of the second day's play, Jasprit Bumrah (3/48) overstepped on a delivery which he had Harry Brook caught at midwicket. 'Normally, it doesn't happen, but it was a bit unfortunate. But I think, as a group of support staff or as a team also, it is one of those things which happen,' he said. Victory parade: BCCI to make official permissions mandatory

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to make it mandatory for all winning teams to secure prior permissions from relevant authorities first and also not rush into organising celebrations to avoid crowd incidents such as the stampede in Bengaluru on June 4 that marred Royal Challengers Bengaluru's long-awaited IPL success. (PTI) Eleven people were killed and over 30 injured in the surge near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as the RCB squad assembled at its home venue, having ended an 18-year wait the previous night by finally winning the IPL title, beating Punjab Kings in the final played at Ahmedabad. While authorities in Bengaluru are investigating the incidents, BCCI's Apex Council met on June 14 and named a three-member committee to draw up guidelines for holding celebrations in the future. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who heads the panel, said on Saturday, 'The draft (report) will be ready within 15 days as decided, so by June 30.' The panel is expected to make it mandatory for any winning team to first secure all permissions from the state government concerned, including from the police, to ensure public safety is accorded top priority. It is also likely to be made mandatory for those clearances to be run through BCCI, Saikia said. Issues such as holding any team parade from the airport will also be considered. If there are any such plans, the panel is expected to suggest that a foolproof protocol be put in place. The final document will be sent to all franchises. BCCI treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla are the other members of the panel that will formulate the guidelines. Following the stampede, the Karnataka cabinet has proposed a bill for crowd control, which is likely to have provisions of taking action against those not following police orders. It is also likely to hold the event planner liable to pay compensation in case of injuries or deaths. The Karnataka high court on Tuesday barred the police from expanding the scope of its investigation beyond its initial FIR (first information report). The court also extended the interim protection from arrest granted to senior officials of RCB, Karnataka State Cricket Association and the firm that organised the event in the stadium until July 8. According to the Karnataka state, the stadium's capacity is around 30,000, but over two lakh people reportedly gathered outside and around the venue, leading to the stampede.

Leeds [UK], June 22 (ANI): Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak praised India test skipper Shubman Gill after his majestic hundred on captaincy debut against England on Saturday, in the first of five test match series at Headingley, Leeds. He said Gill had made specific changes in his batting, credited him with analysing what he needed to do, and felt he did really well. Sitanshu Kotak, while speaking in the post-match press conference, said, 'I think, after the Australia series, he [Shubman Gill] has thought of certain things, which he has implemented, after Australia, Champions Trophy, and then we had IPL. He worked on certain things, and as soon as I saw him in the nets, I spoke to him about the changes you made, and he said yes. So a lot of credit goes to him for analysing what he needs to do, and I think he did really well.' India were bowled out for 471 in 113 overs in the first innings, with captain Shubman Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal all crossing the century milestone. Gill scored his century in 140 balls, making him the fifth Indian to have scored a century in his first Test as captain. He was dismissed on 147, trying to hit a six and complete his 150, but he was caught on square leg off Shoaib Bashir. Kotak also praised Pant for his brilliance in the middle. He felt the wicketkeeper/batter makes his decision when he bats and he plays aggressive shots, which does not mean that he can't play defensive cricket. 'Rishabh Pant, I think, is someone who makes his own plans, makes his decision when he bats, so this inning was a little different than you would see him normally, but that is his plan, the way he wanted to approach it, and when he wanted to attack, he did. So, because he plays aggressively, it does not mean that he can't play defensively,' he added. Pant was eventually dismissed on the second ball of the 108th over for 134 by Josh Tongue. India squandered the advantage in the first session on Day 2 as the side lost four wickets in the last half an hour. Shubman Gill (147), Karun Nair (0), Rishabh Pant (134) and Shardul Thakur (1) all lost their wickets. A century by Ollie Pope and his partnership with Ben Duckett helped England put up a strong reply against India in their first innings, ending the final session of day two of the first Test on a high.
