Jacks end regular season with loss to ORU
BROOKINGS, S.D. (SDSU) — Oral Roberts starter Brendan Asher limited South Dakota State to two runs over six innings for a Golden Eagles squad that finished off a four-game sweep of a Summit League baseball series with a 9-2 victory Saturday afternoon at Erv Huether Field.
In winning the regular season finale for both teams, ORU improved to 34-20 and finished in a tie atop the league standings with St. Thomas with a 21-9 mark. SDSU dropped to 16-34 overall and 12-18 in The Summit League.
After leaving runners at the corners in each of the first two innings, the Golden Eagles broke a scoreless deadlock with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Ethan Fender and Keaton Campbell opened the frame with back-to-back singles off SDSU starter Dylan Richey. Fender came around to score on a base hit by Martell Davis and Campbell later crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Will Edmunson.
The two squads traded two-run half-innings in the fifth. The Golden Eagles upped their lead to 4-0 when Wailele Kane-Yates was hit by a pitch to open the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fender. Campbell's third of three hits in the game plated another run.
SDSU's lone rally of the game began when Jess Bellows reached on an error. Davis Carr followed with a solid single to left and a bunt single by Keagen Jirschele loaded the bases. Pinch hitter Dayton Franke looped a single to center field to drive in Bellows and Carter Sintek added a sacrifice fly that scored Carr.
Asher, meanwhile, put another zero on the board in the sixth inning to finish his outing with four strikeouts and two walks while scattering five hits. Three different ORU relievers each logged one scoreless inning to close out the victory.
ORU added a run on its third sacrifice fly of the game in the sixth inning and tacked on four more runs in the eighth. Edmunson hit his third home run of the series to open the eighth and Makani Tanaka added a two-run single. The final run of the game scored on a bloop double down the right-field line by Matthew Brandt.
Cooper Combs and Jack Schark also tallied three of ORU's 17 hits. The Jackrabbits' eight hits were spread among eight different players.
Seven different pitchers went to the mound for SDSU. Richey turned in the longest outing as he went 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.
UP NEXTThe Jackrabbits and ORU are scheduled to meet again in the opening round of the Summit League Baseball Championship Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska. First pitch is tentatively set for noon at Tal Anderson Field.

Pep hails Ait-Nouri and Echeverri in wake of six-hit Al Ain triumph
Pep Guardiola praised the impact of new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri and Argentine youngster Claudio Echeverri after City sealed our ticket into the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup with a 6-0 win over Al Ain in Atlanta. Ilkay Gundogan led the way in our second Group G clash with a brace – the first via a sublime chip – with Echeverri then doubling our advantage with a wonderful free-kick on what was the young Argentine's first start for City. Advertisement With Erling Haaland also on target from the penalty spot, and substitutes Rayan Cherki and Oscar Bobb also netting, it made for a fine night's work. Summer signing Ait-Nouri caught the eye too with his ramping runs forward from left back, the Algerian providing a tantalising glimpse of what he will bring to the Club. And as he reflected on a solid night's work, the City boss was keen to praise Ait-Nouri and Echeverri's individual contributions to the cause. On Ait-Nouri in his first outing for City, he said: 'Wow, he played very good because we had to defend a back four and then a back five, he had to arrive in the end. Advertisement 'At the end he played really good. It's his first game but he's played in the Premier League for many years. 'He can help us play in that important role, then he went holding midfield in the pockets, he moves really well in small spaces. JUMPING FOR JOY: Claudio Echeverri after his stunning free-kick. 'He's intelligent and clear to defend and take the ball and especially in the final third he's so clever as well. 'I was really pleased for the game he played.' The boss was equally pleased with the contribution of Echeverri, the only downside being an ankle knock that forced him off at half-time. 'Since he's arrived the previous season, three or four months with us at the end of the training session he'd practice the free-kicks with the keeper and the wall alone. The others didn't,' Pep added. Advertisement 'He practiced and practiced, and the work paid off, he had the courage and quality. When you practice, it's like golf or basketball, the more you practice the more chances you have. It was a fantastic goal and he's an incredible player in the small spaces. 'Unfortunately, he couldn't continue after half-time for a problem with the ankle but it was really good that his first minutes in this competition, he made a fantastic goal. The free-kick was really, really good.' ACTION MAN: The City squad line up ahead of kick-off. The result means City are just behind Juventus in the table having scored one goal less than the Old Lady with both sides on six points from two games. Advertisement The two sides meet in Orlando on Thursday in a clash that will determine who claims top spot. 'What's important is we're in the next phase,' Pep added. 'We want to go through and in the end have to face top teams sooner or later, you see Brazilian teams and top-class European team, it's not a big concern. 'We have four days to play Juventus then after the next opponent. Happy to be one week more here in the United States.'

Chiefs 'Not Feeling' Travis Kelce Play Style Change In 2025
Chiefs 'Not Feeling' Travis Kelce Play Style Change In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is coming to the end of his storied career, and with the veteran entering Year 13, there was a thought that the offense might look a little different for him in 2025. Advertisement The thought was that Kansas City would slowly transition away from Kelce being "the" guy in preparation for his retirement, allowing others to take a bigger role in the offense. That feels logical, and after last season's output, no one would bat an eyelid if the Chiefs, while still using Kelce as a receiving option, slowly moved away from him being the No. 1 guy. But head coach Andy Reid doesn't envision such change. "I'm not really feeling that,' Reid said. 'More similar to last year, I would imagine. He's in great shape right now, so I think he's looking forward to getting going.' Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce© Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Kelce is coming off his worst season since his rookie year, with his lowest yards (823) and touchdown (three) totals. He has even admitted that he wasn't at his best last year. Advertisement So he's put in the work, dropped some weight (no, not the 25 pounds being reported), but the tight end does look slimmer as he attacks minicamp with the vigor of a player looking to prove a lot of people wrong in 2025. The Chiefs do have other weapons that Patrick Mahomes can utilize, including Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster, but make no mistake, Kelce will still receive his targets in 2025. Yes, the future Hall of Famer might be slowing down physically, but he won't be slowing down his role in the offense. Video: 'Insane' Ejection In Game 2 Of College World Series
Video: 'Insane' Ejection In Game 2 Of College World Series originally appeared on The Spun. Game 2 of the Men's College World Series between LSU and Coastal Carolina is underway. Unfortunately, Coastal Carolina will be without two coaches moving forward. We had an ejection just minutes into Game 2 in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. Both Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall and first base coach Matt Schilling have been ejected from the game. Advertisement The two Coastal Carolina coaches appeared to get ejected in the bottom of the first inning for arguing balls and strikes. Umpires say that arguing balls and strikes can lead to an automatic ejection. However, you would hope that in the College World Series, umpires would be more lenient. College World Series Coastal Carolina fell to LSU, 1-0, in a three-hit shutout in Game 1 on Saturday. Naturally, things are tense on Sunday. The umpires did not need to take it that far. ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan is furious. "There are very few combinations of words in the English language that warrant ejecting a coach from an elimination game in the Men's College World Series finals. And yet Coastal Carolina's Kevin Schnall -- and first-base coach Matt Schilling -- just got run in the first inning," he wrote on X. Advertisement "'You missed three pitches' does not qualify as one of those combinations. If this is all it took for Kevin Schnall to get ejected, that is absurd." We'll have to wait and see what the umpires say following the game, if one of them speaks to the media. Game 2 of the Men's College World Series is airing live on ESPN.
