In a move aimed at cutting down ticket queue times for Delhiites, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation DMRC ) has partnered with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).Commuters can now book metro tickets through over 10 popular mobile applications, eliminating the need to download a dedicated metro app.The integration is aimed at making public transit more convenient and accessible for the city's 6.5 million daily riders. Users can now access metro ticketing directly from platforms like Chartr, EaseMyTrip, Google Maps, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram), NammaYatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc and Yatri Railways.The unified system has been enabled through a single-point tech interface by SequelString AI (SAI), allowing apps across categories—from journey planners to ride-hailing and travel portals—to integrate Delhi Metro ticketing seamlessly.For example, a commuter travelling from Jaipur to Delhi can now book both bus and metro tickets in one go on the Redbus app. Local riders, meanwhile, can use multi-modal transport apps like Rapido to book a bike ride to a metro station, complete their metro journey, and take another ride to their final destination—all within a single app."For instance, an inter-city passenger traveling from Jaipur to Delhi via bus can now use the Redbus app not just to book their bus ticket, but also to purchase a Delhi Metro ticket from ISBT Kashmere Gate to any onward destination within the city—without switching platforms. Similarly, for intra-city commuters, a user on the Rapido app can plan an entire journey in one go — starting with a bike taxi ride from home to Dhaula Kuan Metro Station, continuing via Delhi Metro to Anand Vihar, and completing the trip with a final bike or cab ride," the DMRC said in a post on X.'This partnership with ONDC is part of our effort to simplify metro travel and bring it into the digital spaces people already use every day. By offering ticketing through multiple familiar apps, we are removing the friction that often comes with transit access,' said Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC.Delhi Metro began its integration with ONDC in a soft launch phase in November 2024. With the full rollout now in effect, ticketing is live on the above said apps.

Connaught Place monthly rent However, apart from those ancient lease agreements, Connaught Place is one of the country's most expensive retail locations today, with monthly rent ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 700 per square foot, depending on the Block. But many businesses still pay monthly rents that have not been revised since 1947, thanks to the Old Delhi Rent Control Act, allowing tenants– which are often multinational chains and national banks– to rake in massive profits. As per an Economic Times report, Connaught Place saw a 33% year-on-year rise in high street retail rent in 2023.

Sky's the limit: DDA plans hot air balloon rides
New Delhi: Delhiites will soon be able to enjoy hot air balloon rides, with Delhi Development Authority confirming plans to introduce tethered balloon services at Yamuna Sports Complex and CWG Village Sports Complex. The service will be operated by a designated firm, which will provide its own equipment and staff, under a revenue-sharing model with DDA. "We have already earmarked sites at four locations. A notice inviting tender has been issued and the last date to apply is July 7. For the safety of visitors, we have made it mandatory that the agency will have a minimum of one year of experience in operating hot air balloon services or tethered hot air balloon services or similar aviation-based recreational activities," said an official. Besides valid licences and certifications, a proven track record of safety and compliance with aviation standards and a licence under the air operator permit or non-scheduled operator permit as issued by the Union civil aviation ministry would be among other compliances DDA would demand from the operator. After the award of the letter, the firm will be given 45 days to set up the required infrastructure and equipment and make the professionals available to commence the operations. The tenure of the licence will be three years, which can be extended for three terms, up to a maximum of nine years, stated the authority. "The price of the ride will be decided by the firm. However, it should be reasonable and will need to be approved by the competent authority of DDA. The sale of tickets will be arranged jointly by the firm and DDA to ensure transparency and record-keeping. The entire amount will be credited to DDA's account," stated the authority. "However, no advertisement carrying information or graphics or other items relating to alcohol and tobacco products, objectionable or indecent content, as defined by industry standards, etc., would be allowed," stated the authority. To attract more people to the Yamuna floodplain, DDA is making efforts to restore the greenery at these places, besides developing waterbodies, children's playing areas and recently initiating work on establishing eating facilities.

Indian Hockey Players To Get A Monthly Stipend From Sports Ministry
Last Updated: Indian hockey players selected for national camps will receive a Rs 25,000 monthly allowance. The decision, costing Rs 20 lakh per month, was approved by the sports ministry. For the first time, Indian hockey players selected for the men's and women's national camps will receive a Rs 25,000 monthly out-of-pocket allowance, a decision sanctioned by the sports ministry after consistent requests from the sport's governing body. Eighty players (40 men and 40 women) are set to benefit from this allowance, which is extended to athletes in the developmental group of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. The decision was made during the Mission Olympic Cell's monthly meeting on Thursday. This allowance will cost the government Rs 20 lakh per month, while core group athletes receive Rs 50,000 per month. 'The allowance was being requested by Hockey India for some time, and we have decided to accept the demand. The players have performed reasonably well, and it is on merit," Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed reporters in an informal interaction. Hockey India will need to submit a list of players every month to facilitate the disbursement of funds. 'The list will consider form and fitness, and names might change depending on these factors," a sports ministry source explained. Currently, hockey players earn salaries from their respective departments and organisations, although a proposal for a graded contract system by Hockey India has been under consideration for the past few years. Their additional source of income comes from prize money for strong international performances in events like the Olympics and the Asian Games. The men's team has secured two consecutive bronze medals in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the subsequent Paris Games last year. The women's team finished fourth in Tokyo but did not qualify for the Paris event. Both teams are currently competing in the FIH Pro League's European leg, where the results have not been particularly encouraging so far. The MOC also approved financial proposals amounting to Rs 4.28 crore during the meeting. A significant portion of the funds — Rs 1.38 crore — will be allocated to tennis players such as Saketh Myneni, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, and three women players. 'Several proposals for assistance from para-athletes were also approved. Additionally, a few additions were made to the TOPS developmental group. The core group remains unchanged for now," a Sports Authority of India (SAI) official stated. The ministry has also decided to enhance its talent identification process with an app that will allow talented youngsters to upload their performances for evaluation by regional talent identification panels of the SAI. 'If found promising at first glance, the youngster will be invited to Khelo India Regional Centres where their potential will be assessed. This will broaden our talent identification mechanism, which is currently limited to age group competitions," Mandaviya said. 'It will ensure that we can reach the remotest corners of the country to find promising athletes. This is all part of the National Sports Repository System," he added. With PTI inputs.
