North Wales is set to sizzle in hot summer temperatures that will equal and sometimes exceed the popular Spanish Benidorm resort, over the next two days.
According to Met Office maps, the top temperature for Benidorm is 30C today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday). Similar temperatures are forecast for the holiday island of Majorca.
North Wales is set to see highs of 30C in the Wrexham area at 6pm today, with other parts hitting temperatures of 28C, including Ruthin, Flint and Porthmadog, amid clear skies and sunny weather.
Tomorrow Wrexham will hit 31C later in the day, with other parts of North Wales, including Ruthin and St Aspah seeing 30C, the lowest will be Holyhead, which will still see a balmy 26C.
It comes as a Met Office study predicts heatwaves lasting as long as 39 days for parts of the UK in the coming years. Temperatures soaring above 40C will become more likely, with a possible maximum of 46.6C, as climate change tightens its grip.
A Met Office forecast for Wales said: "Today: Another dry day with prolonged amounts of sunshine. Some wispy cloud drifting through at times. A southeasterly breeze picking up but feeling very warm in shelter. Maximum temperature 29 °C.
"Tonight: A fine evening but turning cloudier with the odd shower in the southwest by dawn, but most of the country remaining dry. A very mild night with a strengthening breeze. Minimum temperature 16 °C.
"Friday: Patchy high-level cloud and the odd shower, during the morning. Drier with sunny spells by the afternoon. Staying very warm, humid and breezy. Maximum temperature 29 °C.
"Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Hazy sunshine on Saturday with isolated showers, perhaps thundery. Occasional bright spells on Sunday with cloudier skies arriving into Monday. Feeling warm to start then turning fresher on Sunday."

Heatwaves have been triggered across England and Wales with even higher temperatures expected over the weekend. But Friday was not the warmest day of the year so far, with highs of 30.8C recorded in both nations, the Met Office confirmed. It comes as thunderstorms are threatening to hit large parts of northern England on Saturday. Temperatures could reach up to 34C in isolated areas of England, but rain, hail and lightning could be on their way, a Met Office spokesperson said. An official heatwave is recorded when areas reach a certain temperature for three consecutive days, with thresholds varying from 25C to 28C in different parts of the UK. 'Many places' in England and 'one or two areas' in Wales, including Cardiff, have now entered a heatwave following Friday's highest temperatures, Becky Mitchell, meteorologist at the Met Office, said. While the national record for this year was not broken, Friday was the hottest day of the year so far for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. A yellow thunderstorm weather warning has been issued covering Nottingham up to above Newcastle, running from 3pm on Saturday until 4am on Sunday. The Met Office warned the most intense storms could produce 'frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds', along with a chance of flooding. Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: 'There are scattered thunderstorms coming through. 'Some of the rain could be quite intense, and frequent lightning, hail, gusty winds and some heavy downpours, which we haven't seen for a while. 'Some of the ground is quite hard at the moment, and when you get heavy rain hitting hard ground, it can cause surface water issues. 'You might find surface water on the roads, drains finding it difficult to cope and a small chance of homes being flooded.' Temperatures are predicted to peak on the western side of the country on Friday, as a 'more changeable, fresher feel' starts to come in. Ms Maxey said: 'Tomorrow, temperatures may continue to go up a little for the east and south-east area of the country, we might see them creep up to 33C, or even an isolated 34C, but we are going to see that change. 'In the west, tomorrow we should start to see more of this cloud come in, and we have a fresher air mass pushing in across the country.' Temperatures reached 32.2C in Kew, west London, on Thursday, amid an amber heat-health alert for all regions in England. The alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for the first time since September 2023, is in force until 9am on Monday. It warns 'significant impacts are likely' across health and social care services because of high temperatures, including a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions. Following the hot weather, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has urged the public to take heat and water safety seriously. During 2022's heatwave, temperatures rose past 40C, leading to 320 people being treated in hospital. Steve Cole, policy director at RoSPA, said: 'Heat is no longer just a holiday perk — it's a growing public health risk. 'We're seeing more frequent and intense heatwaves, both in the UK and globally, and the data shows a clear rise in heat-related illness and fatalities. 'Warm weather can also be deceptive when it comes to going for a dip. 'While the air may feel hot, water temperatures often remain dangerously cold, which can lead to cold-water shock, even in summer.'

While collecting shells might appear like a harmless beach activity, in Sardinia, it could cost you over £2,500. Local law prohibits taking shells or pebbles from any beach on the island in a bid to protect the area's ecosystem and prevent the beaches from eroding. Studies suggest removing shells from a seashore could impact an area's ecosystem as many animals live inside the husks. Just a few years later customs police on the Mediterranean island slapped 41 travellers with penalties of up to €3,000 (£2,580) in just a few days alone. Collectively they attempted to swipe 220lb (100kg) of beach items in separate incidents. Locals grew fed up with tourists trying to take a piece of the beach home with them - and then attempting to flog it for a profit. There is even a dedicated Facebook page - called "Sardinia robbed and plundered" - to highlight the problem, which has amassed 37,722 followers. Visitors have been caught at airport and harbour customs checks, while police and the military have also been monitoring websites for unlawful sales. Spanish Beaches Close Due to Dangerous Sea Creature Cops reported dozens of illicitly advertised beach items - some with "high prices". Islanders warned the issue is creating an environmental emergency. Pierluigi Cocco, an environmental scientist and resident of the Sardinian capital Cagliari, told the BBC that the beaches were "the main reason why tourists are attracted to the island of Sardinia". He said that although taking sand home served as a reminder of a "treasured memory", it could contribute to the reduction of beaches in the future. In 2019, a French couple were caught with 40kg of sand in the boot of their car. Police found the sand crammed into 14 plastic bottles taken from a beach in Chia, southern Sardinia. The couple claimed they wanted to take it home as a "souvenir" and did not know they had committed an offence.
