Injury-plagued NZ Warriors centre Rocco Berry has joined co-captain Mitch Barnett on the sidelines for their away game against Cronulla Sharks on Saturday.
After having a fully fit squad to choose from last week - the first time since 2023 - coach Andrew Webster has had to juggle his line-up again, with
Barnett ruled out for the season
with a ruptured ACL in his right knee and Berry hampered by a hamstring twinge that
forced him from the field against South Sydney Rabbitohs
on Sunday.
Berry has struggled to stay on the park for the Warriors after missing the start of the season with a shoulder injury, withdrawing from his scheduled return against Wests Tigers with hamstring trouble, picking up a suspension in his eventual return against Melbourne Storm and then missing three more games with his dodgy hammy.
He has managed just four appearances so far this campaign.
Webster has addressed Berry's absence by shifting versatile second-rower Kurt Capewell into the midfield, but also has specialist centre Ali Leiataua on an extended bench.
Teenage sensation Leka Halasima has moved into the starting pack, where he has lined up in six of his 12 appearances this season. Without Barnett, Jackson Ford has been promoted from the bench to start in the front row.
Meanwhile, Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has named former Warriors front-rower Addin Fonua Blake to face his old team for the first time, since his early release to return across the Tasman.
Kiwis winger Ronaldo Mulitalo is suspended, so Hamilton-born Sione Katoa makes his comeback from shoulder reconstruction, while NZ-born players Mawene Hiroti, Oregon Kaufusi, Briton Nikora and Braden Hamlin-Uele also named.

1 Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, 2 Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 3 Adam Pompey, 4 Kurt Capewell, 5 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 6 Chanel Harris-Tavita, 7 Luke Metcalf, 8 James Fisher-Harris, 9 Wayde Egan, 10 Jackson Ford, 11 Leka Halasima, 12 Marata Niukore, 13 Erin Clark
Interchange: 14 Te Maire Martin, 15 Jacob Laban, 16 Demitric Vaimauga, 17 Tanner Stowers-Smith

Properties still unable to use water after Christchurch Men's Prison fuel leak

Christchurch Men's Prison. Photo: Luke McPake / The Wireless Eight properties around Christchurch Men's Prison are still unable to use water from their private bores, a month after a fuel leak was discovered. About 14,000 litres of diesel leached into the ground at the prison last month after the hatch of a fuel tank was left open as part of a programme to replace two of the three fuel tanks on site. An investigation is underway to determine how that happened. Corrections custodial services commissioner Leigh Marsh said it had expanded the number of sampling bores to 11 and soil testing around one bore where the spill occurred had shown diesel at a depth of three to six metres. Public health advice remained unchanged, with nearby properties told not to use their water for drinking, cooking or feeding stock or animals. "Although water testing has so far not detected any hydrocarbon contamination in any bores following the initial detection, the National Public Health Service still needs more information to give confidence that the contamination is confined within the prison boundary. "We continue to work with them and technical experts towards a return to normal for the small number of affected neighbours reliant on private bore water." Marsh said the affected residents were being kept updated and provided with water as they needed it.

Two newbies named in Tall Ferns FIBA Asia Cup squad

Head coach Natalie Hurst has named a squad of 12 plus two reserves with Rebecca Pizzey and Olivia Williams in the New Zealand women's basketball team for the first time. "Olivia brings more length on the wing. She's a defensive minded player who shows great instincts at that end, and isn't afraid to make a big play at the offensive end as well. Rebecca is a high IQ player. She also has great length at the defensive end and can stretch the floor at the offensive end. Another mobile big who can handle the ball for us, which is incredibly valuable with Sharne Robati not being available," Hurst said. The squad maintains a solid-core group of players from May's Trans-Tasman Throwdown, with guard Tayla Dalton returning, University of Hawai'i standout Ritorya Tamilo, and forward Charlotte Whittaker who has recently finished her French season with Toulouse. "I'm excited about a few things with this group, including the mix of youth and experience we have. Especially getting access to some of the ladies either finishing college or on their breaks, so we're stoked to welcome them into the group. Obviously with the Trans-Tasman Throwdown we blooded a lot of new squad members, who we now see heading to their first Asia Cup." The team is in a tough group alongside China, Indonesia and Korea. "We target the first two games and then see what happens from there," Hurst said. The Tall Ferns will get their FIBA Asia Cup campaign started against Korea on July 14th, before backing up against Indonesia the following day. The Tall Ferns final pool play match is against China on 16th July. Hurst said success would be getting through to the next round.
