Saudi Leadership, MWL Offer Condolences over Death of Pope Francis

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent on Monday cables of condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.
Pope Francis, history's first Latin American pontiff who charmed the world with his humble style and concern for the poor, died on Monday. He was 88.
Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man, was admitted to hospital on February 14 for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia. He spent 38 days there, the longest hospitalization of his 12-year papacy.
Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa offered his condolences to the Vatican and Catholics over the pope's death.
He spoke of his 'great friendship' with Pope Francis and 'the impact it had on cooperation between the MWL and Vatican in serving common goals.'
In a post on the X platform, Al-Issa praised Pope Francis' 'wisdom, just stances and positive contributions, especially towards the Muslim world and its causes.'
He highlighted his 'strong and honorable position towards Palestinian rights and his condemnation of the barbaric crimes in Gaza.'

SFDA suspends medical device imports from erring international firm

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has suspended imports from an international medical device and supplies factory, as part of its ongoing regulatory efforts to verify the safety of products under its supervision circulating in the Saudi market. This import suspension decision followed an SFDA inspection tour that uncovered serious violations, according to a press statement from the authority on Thursday. These issues primarily centered on the factory's quality management system, manufacturing processes, factory work environment and deficiencies that could potentially lead to the contamination of medical devices. Violations related to quality management systems accounted for approximately 10 percent of all recorded violations at medical device factories in 2024. Meanwhile, violations concerning manufacturing processes and the work environment represented a significant 49 percent of the total. According to the statement, this action is one of several measures the SFDA takes when serious violations are found during inspections of facilities exporting medical devices to Saudi Arabia. The import suspension rate reached approximately 30 percent of all factories inspected in 2024. The factory is also registered with several international regulatory authorities, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union, and its products are marketed globally. Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has urged visitors to the Grand Mosque to adhere to health precautionary guidelines to ensure their safety and well-being. The authority emphasized the importance of wearing masks, regularly using hand sanitizers, washing hands with soap and water, avoiding sharing personal items, and staying adequately hydrated to prevent dehydration. Visitors are also advised to avoid overcrowding when entering and exiting the Grand Mosque, promptly visit the nearest health center if they experience any symptoms, and dispose of waste in designated areas to maintain a safe worship environment. The authority noted that healthcare services are available around the clock through three emergency centers operated by the Makkah Health Cluster within the mosque. These measures reflect the authority's ongoing commitment to the health and safety of worshippers, in line with the Saudi leadership's directives to provide all necessary services and facilities for visitors to perform their rituals with utmost comfort.
