'He Was Smiling Through the Pain:' Woman Gets Mazda Loaner. Then She Tells Husband She Bought It to See His Reaction
A woman has gone viral after pranking her husband with a loaner from Mazda. She wants to see his reaction when she tells him she bought a whole new car without consulting him first. TikTok user Jana Smith (@janaaasmith) posted her prank video this week. At the start of the video, Smith is inside what is clearly a new vehicle. She explains, 'I went to get my car serviced at Mazda and they found an issue, so I'm leaving my car overnight. They gave me a loaner car; a 2025. So let's go home and tell my husband that I bought a new car without him knowing.' The New Mazda The video then cuts to the Mazda loaner inside the Smiths' garage. Her husband is eying the new vehicle with a confused look. 'I don't understand what's happening,' he says cautiously. Feigning innocence, Smith says, 'So it costs nothing except the car payment is just $280 more a month. But it's a 2025.' It takes just another second for Smith's husband to get in on the joke. 'You're lying. You're such a liar,' he says to conclude the video. In the caption, she writes, "We're in the middle of making the biggest business acquisition of our lives, and I came home to tell them I bought a new car." Of course, anyone who's been closing on a real estate or business deal knows that it's an incredibly stressful time and not really a time to be throwing around cash or making impulsive purchases —particularly of the automotive variety. That's because those kinds of activities can change your debt-to-income ratio and credit score, and those factor in considerably to the financial products you're able to access. 'He's Such a Green Flag' In the comments, plenty of wives said they found this prank incredibly funny. "Him doing his best not to crash out is cracking me up," wrote one user. "The finger tap on the door handle was hilarious," agreed a second user. "Girl, he was so mad." "Calculating the budget in his head," wrote a third. "My husband said if I come home with a new car again, I'm sleeping in it," wrote another wife. "I've probably had like eight cars in the last 15 years." One woman admitted she wouldn't have been as generous to her partner in this situation. "He's such a green flag, because I would have flipped out!!!!" It's unclear what type of car she came home with, though it resembles the Mazda CX-50 . Motor1 reached out to Smith via TikTok comment and direct message for comment. Uzo Aduba and Randall Park on Their ‘The Residence' Chemistry and If There Will Be a Season 2: ‘I Don't Think That Just Ends'
Uzo Aduba knows more about birds now than she ever thought she would. 'I'd never heard of a grackle before. I know the purple grackle,' she says. 'Or the snow-spotted owl. I came in knowing like what a hummingbird and a red robin are. And now I know what a giant antpitta is.' On Netflix's 'The Residence,' a quirky murder mystery from Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland label, Aduba stars as Cordelia Cupp, widely considered the best detective in the world — who also happens to be a bit eccentric, with a particular obsession for birdwatching. More from Variety TV Academy Sticks Up for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Even as Some Major Media Companies Take the Pathetic, Spineless Route David Oyelowo on Why He Made It a Priority to Shoot 'Government Cheese' in Los Angeles Brett Goldstein on Working With Michael J. Fox on 'Shrinking,' Returning to 'Ted Lasso' and Preparing His Next Comedy Special: 'It's a Good One!' Aduba's character is dispatched to the White House when White House Chief Usher A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito, in a role originally set for the late André Braugher) is found murdered. The event takes place in the middle of an Australian state dinner, which means there could be hundreds of suspects. Among those guiding Cupp in her investigation: FBI Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park). Variety's Awards Circuit podcast recently sat down with Aduba and Park to talk about what drew them to 'The Residence,' how they instantly found chemistry, whether there could be another season and what else they have lined up. Also on this episode: With Emmy nomination voting ending on Monday, the Roundtable takes one more look at the major categories, how the number of submissions has changed some of the competition and who didn't bother to join in. Listen below! Paul William Davies is the creator behind 'The Residence,' which was inspired by Kate Andersen Brower's book 'The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.' Both Aduba and Park are amazed by how meticulous Davies was with the show's details. 'What's so great about the show that Paul has written, is that it challenges the audience to guess,' Aduba says. 'And he never doubts just how smart the audience is to sort of keep pace with the story that he's writing.' Aduba says she became more enthralled with the scripts to the eight-episode series as they came in — and started guessing who the real killer might be. And she got it wrong. 'I thought it was Jasmine (Susan Kelechi Watson), and then I thought it was Jasmine and Harry. I thought Harry Hollinger (Ken Marino) did it, but she had something to do with it. That's where I landed in the end, until I found out who did it. And I was sure of it too. 'But I think that's what's really exciting about a well constructed murder mystery,' she says. 'You really are kept guessing until that final moment when the killer is revealed, and their why and how. The how is always clear, but the why is always just wrapped in mystery and curiosity. And I think we have that here.' For Park, who plays FBI agent Jimmy Woo in the Marvel universe (including 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' and its sequel, as well as 'WandaVision'), he wasn't so sure he wanted to suit up again. But in reading the scripts, 'I thought, wow, the writing was unlike anything I had ever read before,' he says. 'I was kind of on the fence — even though the project was so great, and the appeal of working in Shondaland was very exciting. I couldn't stop thinking about the script and Paul's writing, and then I found out that Uzo would be playing Cordelia Cupp. Right away I was like, 'I hope this role hasn't been cast yet, because I've got to do it.'' Park says he's glad he signed on, even though the show faced plenty of obstacles — including the unexpected and tragic death of Braugher. 'It was definitely a road that we were on that was not without its bumps and difficult times, but it brought us all so close,' he says. 'The experience was just so special, on top of the show being so special.' And that included the chemistry with Aduba. 'Chemistry isn't always, at least in my experience, automatic,' Park says. 'But with Uzo, it was automatic. She felt like an old friend immediately and we just had such a great time. I think that bled into the performances, that connection, even though she was berating me.' Aduba admits that was hard: 'That was the worst, this is like maybe the nicest person I've ever met in my life, and to say those things to!' So, what are the plans for a Season 2? Quips Aduba: 'Well, we already said, no spoilers! In all sincerity, what I do know is I loved working with Randall Park. I loved making this show. We had a real joy. And what I do know is Cordelia Cupp… I don't think that just ends. She will always have many more adventures going on in places and worlds that she's going to see. And that's exciting to me.' Katy Perry won't join Orlando Bloom at Bezos wedding amid rumored breakup
Pop star Katy Perry is reportedly not expected to join Orlando Bloom at Jeff Bezos' lavish Italian wedding next week amid rumors the couple's relationship is on the rocks. Us Weekly recently reported the pair has been spending time apart and their friends don't know what to make of the situation. Sources said even their inner circle isn't sure if they've 'permanently split.' But according to TMZ, Perry's absence from the A-list nuptials is more logistical than anything else. Perry is currently on tour in Australia, where some of her concert dates would interfere with wedding festivities taking place more than 8,000 miles away. She's scheduled to perform in Perth on Monday — one day before the three-day wedding event begins in Venice — followed by shows in Adelaide on June 26 and 27. Bloom, who's been linked to Perry on and off since 2016 and shares a daughter with her, is expected to attend the Bezos bash solo. He's among a high-profile guest list that's said to include Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria and Ivanka Trump. Perry last partied with Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, after she was launched into space on his Blue Orbit rocket. Perry and Sanchez were joined on that flight by journalist Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, activist Amanda Nguyen and aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe.
