In response to rising regional tensions following US airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, Bahrain has enacted several urgent precautionary measures, including shifting all educational institutions to remote learning and implementing remote work for a large portion of government employees.
Nationwide Move to Online Education
On Sunday, June 22, Bahrain's Ministry of Education issued instructions directing all public and private educational institutions, from kindergartens to universities, to transition fully to digital and online platforms for teaching and learning. This decision comes as a direct response to the deteriorating security environment in the region.
The action follows reports that the United States bombed three of Iran's nuclear sites, Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, in the early hours of Sunday, significantly heightening tensions in the Gulf.
The move to online education is seen as a precautionary measure to safeguard students and staff during this period of uncertainty.
The announcement was reported by Bahrain News Agency, the kingdom's official media outlet.
Remote Work and Limited Travel Orders
Alongside the education shift, the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) announced the implementation of a remote working system across government ministries and agencies. This directive allows up to 70% of government employees to work from home, beginning June 22 and until further notice.

This policy excludes essential sectors that require physical presence or have special emergency protocols. According to the CSB, the measure is aligned with public safety requirements and aims to reduce exposure to potential risks amid ongoing regional developments.
Additionally, Bahrain's Ministry of Interior issued a statement urging both citizens and residents to "use main roads only when necessary". The goal, officials say, is to maintain public safety and ensure emergency and relevant authorities have unhindered access to vital infrastructure.
Regional Reactions: Radiation Risk Assessed
Given Bahrain's geographical proximity to Iran, just 200 kilometers across the Gulf, the strikes have raised regional anxiety about potential nuclear contamination. However, multiple national and international agencies have moved quickly to allay public fears.
The Saudi Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission announced on X (formerly Twitter):
'No radioactive effects were detected on the environment of the Kingdom and the Arab Gulf states as a result of the American military targeting of Iran's nuclear facilities.'
Similarly, the Kuwaiti National Guard confirmed on X:
'Radiation levels in Kuwait's airspace and waters are stable and the situation is normal.'
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also verified that no increase in off-site radiation levels had been reported following the bombings.
Summary of Key Measures in Bahrain:
Education: All schools, universities, and kindergartens to operate online.
Government Work: Up to 70% of public sector employees working remotely.
Travel Advisory: Residents urged to use main roads only when necessary.
Radiation Monitoring: No abnormal levels detected across Gulf states post-strike.
Bahrain's government continues to monitor the situation closely and is urging the public to stay informed through official channels.

Tripura is now a fully literate state, says CM Manik Saha

Tripura has attained 'full literacy', with a literacy rate of 95.6 per cent, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday, citing data from Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS)- Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram. 'This is a historical moment. We have got the recognition of a fully literate state. It's a matter of pride for us. Those who worked tirelessly–education department, teachers, and students–I thank all of them. Sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka prayas. We need to go the last mile,' he said during a programme held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. Saha said the state recorded a literacy rate of 20.24 per cent in 1961, from where it jumped to 60.44 per cent in 1991, 73.19 per cent in 2001, and 87.22 per cent in 2011. In 2023-24, the literacy rate was 93.7 per cent and it rose to 95.6 per cent in 2024-25. Ninety-five per cent is the threshold for full literacy set by the Ministry of Education. The literacy programme was earlier limited to teaching people how to write their names, but its focus has expanded to include foundation literacy and numeracy, reading, writing, basic arithmetic, critical life skills, vocational skills, continuing education, and skill development, Saha said. 'Literacy needs to reach every household. If it is not fulfilled, we cannot reach our destination. I will ask the education department to address those who are left,' the chief minister said. 'Tripura is progressing in every sector. If we talk about GSDP (gross state domestic product), we are the second highest in the northeast, after Assam. We have the second-highest per capita income, after Sikkim,' he added. As many as 2,228 volunteers across the state are part of the literacy programme, supported by 943 Samajik Chetana Kendras. Of the 4,597 examinees, 3,581 passed the Foundation Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test held on March 17 last year. When the test was held on December 29 last year, 13,909 of the 14,179 examinees qualified. The test was again held on March 23 and 5,819 of the 5,896 examinees cleared it. Priti Mina, secretary in the education ministry; state education secretary Raval Hamendra Kumar; SCERT director L Darlong; and secondary education director N C Sharma were among those present in the programme.

Los Angeles Police apologises for ‘offensive and embarrassing' post about US bombings on Iran; Full statement here

Los Angeles Police rushed to remove an odd social media post regarding the Iranian conflict after it was widely condemned as 'offensive' and 'embarrassing.' The tweet has since been deleted, but the LA County Sheriff's Department posted condolences for the 'tragic' US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday. A demonstrator holds a sign during a protest against war with Iran outside the White House in Washington, DC, US, on Sunday, June 22, 2025. The US carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran overnight, directly entering Israel's war with Tehran despite President Donald Trump's longtime promises to avoid new foreign conflicts. Photographer: Aaron Schwartz/Bloomberg(Bloomberg) 'Our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the recent bombings in Iran. While this tragic event happened overseas, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is closely monitoring the situation alongside our local, state and federal partners,' the post on X read. Social media users slam 'out of touch' post The bizarre post was heavily criticized as 'out of touch'. 'We sincerely hope your account was hacked,' Stop Antisemitism reacted to the post while notifying LA police. 'There were no victims in last night's successful targeting of Iran's nuclear sites.' Another person on X wrote, 'How is this even real??' while a third user blasted the post as 'pathetic.' The tweet comes following protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that started earlier this month in Los Angeles. As thousands hit the streets to oppose the Trump administration's clampdown on illegal immigration across the US, largely peaceful demonstrations quickly descended into violence. Many people asked why police officers in Los Angeles were making comments about global policy and national defense matters. LA County Sheriffs takes down the post, issues apology The police agency swiftly apologised and removed the message from X. 'This post was unacceptable, made in error, and does not reflect the views of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the Department,' LA County Sheriffs said in a post. According to the department, they have started an internal investigation to find out how it was posted. 'Step down': Iran's exiled 'crown prince' Reza Pahlavi says he's ready to take over, Khamenei will receive fair trial if he resigns

Iran's exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi called for a regime change. Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last shah, urged Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to step down now if he wants to get a fair trial, something that Reza said Khamenei never gave to any Iranian. Reza Pahlavi announced that he was ready to take the regime over and he was setting up a new secure platform for dissidents and internal opponents of the regime to coordinate their efforts to overthrow the disctatorrshio and put the country on the path of a "free and democratic" future. 'We are a proud, ancient and resilient people,' Pahlavi told a press conference in Paris on Monday. 'To my compatriots: This is our moment. I am with you. Let us build this new Iran together.' 'I am here today to submit myself to my compatriots to lead them down this road of peace.' 'This is our Berlin wall moment' Pahlavi said he has spoken with people across Iran and realized that this is Iran's Berlin Wall moment. "But like all moments of great change, it comes fraught with danger. We stand at a crossroads. One road leads to bloodshed and chaos. The other—to a peaceful and democratic transition," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The destruction of the Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow has diminished the regime's domestic nuclear enrichment, he said. "But it does not diminish the regime's intent to acquire and use nuclear weapons. The regime, enraged and emboldened, will be seeking revenge and can acquire nuclear weapons from other rogue regimes like North Korea," he said. Reza Pahlavi offered his plan for transition and national renewal based on three core principles: Iran;s territorial integrity, individual liberties and equality of all citizens, and separation of religion and state. "We have already launched the Iran Prosperity Project (IPP) , a comprehensive plan for the economic reconstruction and social stabilization of our country in three phases. The Emergency Phase of the first 4-6 months, the Establishment Phase of 18-24 months, and the Normalization Phase which is long term," he said. Reza Pahlavi pushes for regime change; US unsure While the exiled crown prince pushed for a regime change in Iran, the US is not certain of what it wants. Vice President JD Vance categorically said the US is not in a war with Iran and is not attempting regime change in Iran. But President Donald Trump contradicted that claim and said if the current regime in Iran is unable to 'Make Iran Great Again', then why there would not be a regime change. "It's not politically correct to use the term, 'Regime Change', but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to Make Iran Great Again, why wouldn't there be a Regime Change? MIGA!!!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
