New Ross Drama Workshop's upcoming ‘A View from the Bridge' will see two new actors in lead roles
The group, which boasts over 40 years of continued service in drama to the community is looking forward to bring this classic American drama to the stage of St. Michael's Theatre on Wednesday, April 30, Thursday May, 1 and Friday, May 2 at 7.30 p.m. nightly.
A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller is a dramatic story set in a close-knit community, centring around the Carbone family, where personal desires clash with social expectations. As tensions build within a family, hidden emotions and unspoken rules begin to surface, leading to choices that have lasting consequences. The play explores complex human relationships and the struggle between justice and loyalty and is sure to have audiences on the edge of their seats.
The New Ross Drama Workshop welcomes Jamie Lyster who plays the lead role of Eddie Carbone alongside fellow group newcomer, Tara Furness, who together with long-standing group member, Nancy Rochford Flynn plays Eddie's niece and wife respectively.
David Walsh and Pat Murphy take on the roles of the visiting Italian cousins of the Carbone's (Rodolfo and Marco), whilst Stephen Rossiter plays legal advisor Mr. Alfieri.
John Caulfield, Nicky Flynn, Peter O' Connor and Kevin Murphy also are an integral part of the narrative throughout, and each make a number of appearances on stage. They will be joined on stage by Kitty Warren, Milo Walsh, Peggy Hussey, Kathleen Kennedy, Kate O'Keeffe and Bride Walsh, who share in the dramatic story of the Carbones, as it unfolds.
The backstage team continues to go from strength to strength and is led by stage manager, Marian Rothwell, with Bride Walsh and Anne Fleming Kelly in charge of props. Wexford native Cian Redmond will be coordinating the lights and sound.
Costume design is by Peggy Hussey and Martina Kavanagh, with Kitty Warren and Jenny Murphy O'Neill looking after make-up and hair, respectively. Catherine O'Connor leads the front of house team, ably supported by Brid Richardson, Liz Furness, Annette Stacey, Edward Hayden and other group members.
Speaking last week at rehearsals, New Ross Drama Workshop Chairperson, Kate O'Keeffe said: 'We are delighted to continue our strong reputation of high quality theatre in New Ross by bringing this gripping production to life, and we believe audiences will connect deeply with its emotional intensity and moral complexity.
"We are really looking forward to hearing the feedback of our loyal audiences in New Ross and look forward to seeing you in St. Michael's Theatre,' she said.
Tickets, at €15 each, for A View from the Bridge are now available through the St. Michael's Theatre box-office (051-421255) and online on the theatre website.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Operation Midnight Hammer was 'an incredible and overwhelming success' that took months and weeks of planning. But Iran - who are set to meet with the Kremlin on Monday - vowed the "outrageous" attacks would have "everlasting consequences". And an Iranian state television anchor claimed that "every American citizen or military personnel in the region is now a target" and that Iran will finish the conflict Trump started. And fans looking forward to the Night of Champions are growing increasingly concerned. One wrote: "With the ever rapid developments happening in that part of the world and especially with what's happened tonight, there's a high chance this ends up getting cancelled. At this point some of the wrestlers might even decide to back out for safety." Another said: "If there was ever a time for WWE to cancel a Saudi Arabia show now is the time they're seriously about to send their entire roster right here in a week."
