Renfrewshire weight loss consultant wins Greece trip of a lifetime
Jennifer McDade was recognised for helping and supporting so many Slimming World members lose weight and change their lives.
A Renfrewshire weight-loss consultant won an all expenses paid trip to Greece after helping people fight the flab and change their lives.
Jennifer McDade, who runs the Saturday morning Johnstone Slimming World, said her 'jaw almost dropped to the ground' when she received the phone call to say she'd been selected to take part in the annual excursion abroad.
'I was absolutely blown away,' Jennifer said. 'I couldn't quite believe that the call was real.
Slimming World is well known for the support and encouragement that it gives to members but also its consultants.
Explaining she had been chosen due to her dedication in supporting others, Jennifer told the Paisley Daily Express: 'To be rewarded in this way for simply doing what I love is incredibly special.
'I'm honoured to be part of an exceptional company as a franchisee, but also extremely lucky to work as part of a pretty fabulous local team in Renfrewshire.'
Jennifer and her husband Tony were flown from Gatwick Airport to Athens for a week of luxury and five-star treatment in the exclusive area of Koloniki.
'Nothing was overlooked,' Jennifer explained. 'We were, quite simply, treated like celebrities.
'From the champagne reception at the hotel door to the beautiful five-course evening meal on arrival day, through to our guided tour of The Acropolis, Temple of Poseidon and even a hands-on cookery course, using local ingredients and recipes, while picking up on the language and culture, we really were spoilt.
'We even had a twilight cruise to the Island of Aegina on a Bounty Boat, dancing and singing until the early hours!'
And after losing over three-and-a-half stone and discovering a new-found love of running, Jennifer jumped at the chance to tackle a 5k around the city's Olympic Stadium.
It was the 36th annual trip hosted by Slimming World and it was originally the brainchild of Margaret Miles Bramwell, who founded the company in 1969, but sadly passed away in February.
Jennifer added: 'Margaret took part in every holiday, literally planning and hosting every detail, so for her not to be present on this trip was emotional.
'But we did our best to keep her memory alive and remember that, everything we do from here on in, is to honour her and keep our promise to retain our commitment to helping as many people who need us in their weight loss journeys.'
Consultants are given training in all areas of weight-loss management, physical activity and psychology – all under the umbrella of a trusted organisation who have been present in the UK, Ireland and Cyprus for almost 56 years.
The Renfrewshire team currently has eight consultants running numerous groups in the area.
Jennifer's colleague Grace Neill is the local team developer and supports the team with the recruitment of new consultants and is always looking for exceptional people to join the team.

The Digital Nomad's Survival Guide: Working Remotely Across Canada's Time Zones Without Connectivity Headaches
Working remotely while exploring Canada's breathtaking landscapes sounds like a dream—until you're stuck in a Banff coffee shop with no signal during a crucial client call, or facing a $400 roaming bill after just one week in Toronto. As more professionals embrace location independence, Canada has emerged as a top destination for digital nomads seeking the perfect blend of modern infrastructure, natural beauty, and welcoming culture. Photo by Christin Hume on Unsplash The Reality of Remote Work Across Canada's Vast Landscape Canada's sheer size creates a unique set of challenges that digital nomads rarely encounter elsewhere. Spanning nearly 10 million square kilometers, Canada is the world's second-largest country, with connectivity infrastructure that varies dramatically between urban centers and vast wilderness areas where many nomads dream of setting up their temporary offices. Understanding Canada's Six Time Zones and Their Impact on Digital Work Managing client relationships and team collaboration becomes exponentially more complex when you're literally chasing the sun across Canada's six time zones. Common Connectivity Challenges Nomads Face in Canadian Cities vs. Rural Areas Urban Canada boasts world-class digital infrastructure that rivals any major global city. Toronto's Financial District, Vancouver's tech corridor, and Montreal's startup scene offer blazing-fast internet, abundant coworking spaces, and reliable backup options. However, step outside these metropolitan bubbles, and the connectivity landscape changes dramatically. Rural connectivity in Canada follows the 80/20 rule—80% of the landmass has spotty or nonexistent cellular coverage, while 80% of the population lives in well-connected urban areas. This creates a false sense of security for nomads who test their esim canada setup in downtown Toronto only to discover dead zones throughout the Maritimes or northern Ontario. Scenario: The Cross-Country Road Trip Worker Using a flexible europe esim approach adapted for North American travel, Jennifer maintained consistent connectivity across 95% of her journey. The multi-carrier approach provided coverage in remote areas where single-carrier solutions failed, while automatic carrier switching eliminated manual network management. ROI Analysis: When Premium Connectivity Pays for Itself Professional nomads generating significant income from location-independent work typically find premium connectivity solutions pay for themselves within days. The productivity gains from reliable service, combined with reduced stress and improved client relationships, justify higher monthly costs. Calculate ROI based on hourly earning potential rather than total monthly expenses. A consultant billing $100/hour needs less than two hours of additional productivity monthly to justify a $200 connectivity upgrade. For most professional nomads, reliable connectivity generates positive ROI within the first week of service. Border Crossing Considerations: Maintaining Work Flow During Travel Days Border crossings between Canada and the US can trigger service disruptions and unexpected charges even with travel-optimized connectivity solutions. Understand roaming behavior and potential service interruptions before crossing, particularly for time-sensitive work commitments. Some esim for uk travel solutions and similar services may require specific border crossing protocols or manual carrier selection to avoid automatic roaming charges. Research service-specific requirements and configure devices appropriately before reaching border areas. Like this: Like Related

Ella Resorts' stunning new Greek properties In The Spotlight
Video transcript Jennifer: Welcome to our In The Spotlight video with Ella Resorts. Panos, could you start by telling us a little bit about Ella Resorts for anyone unfamiliar with the brand? Panos: Absolutely Jen. Thank you. In Greek, the word 'ella' means 'come', and that one word expresses everything we stand for. It is practically an open invitation to explore, to relax, and to truly connect with yourself, nature and the rich culture of Greece. Our philosophy is built on three core pillars: authentic experiences, conscious living and effortless elegance. Each resort is designed not only with style, but with soul, integrating sustainability, local culture, and thoughtful design to create a sense of harmony and belonging. Our current portfolio includes stunning resorts across the islands of Rhodes and Corfu, each offering a unique blend of sophistication and relaxed comfort, and we're growing. In 2025, we're excited to welcome two new properties: Alkyna Lifestyle Beach Resort in Corfu, which opened just yesterday [1 May], a refined adults-only beachfront retreat; and Rocrita in Crete – a vibrant destination for families seeking connection, nature, and memorable moments together [*Rocrita is due to open early next year]. Jennifer: I hear you have an adults-only offering as well as an 'Ellavated bliss' proposition at some of your resorts. Please tell us more about that. Panos: At Ella Resorts our adults-only experiences are defined by what we call 'Ellavated Bliss from Ella Resorts', a sophisticated escape designed for guests who appreciate refinement, serenity and exceptional taste. At both Elissa in Rhodes and the new Alkyna in Corfu, dining is more than a pleasure… it's an art. So restaurants are curated in collaboration with Michelin-awarded chefs such as the acclaimed Greek chef, Mr Alexandros Tsiotinis, who curates menus the Fourni and Kavos a la carte restaurants at Elissa Lifestyle Beach Resort in Rhodes. To compliment this, our wine lists are curated with internationally acclaimed labels, as well as rare Greek varietals chosen to elevate every meal. And of course, cocktails are crafted by expert mixologists, bringing a creative twist to the evenings of our guests. Jennifer: And you do also have properties catering for families and those looking for a slightly more traditional, all-inclusive offering. Panos: Indeed, at Ella Resorts we understand that families today are looking for meaningful moments, shared experiences and quality time together. That's why our family friendly resorts are designed with care, comfort and connection in mind. Our upcoming resort, Rocrita in Crete, along with selected properties across Rhodes and Corfu, offer an elevated approach to the all-inclusive experience, where families enjoy freedom, variety and exceptional quality all in one place. We practically cater to every taste, from locally inspired dishes for adventurous palates to familiar favourites crafted with the highest quality of ingredients. Children have their own dedicated menus – fun and healthy options – and relaxing settings designed for enjoyment. Whether it's a family brunch by the sea, sharing stories over dinner or enjoying an ice cream by the pool, we create the space and flavour for families to slow down, laugh together and make memories that truly matter. Jennifer: I'd love to hear more about the local experiences on offer or what you call 'Ellascapes', and what's special about the in-resort experiences. Panos: We truly believe that travel should be deeply enriching both within the resort and beyond it. That's why we've created 'Ellascapes', a collection of curated local experiences that invite our guests to truly connect with the soul of each destination. So whether it's a vineyard visit in the Cretan Hills, a traditional cooking class in Rhodes or sailing along Corfu's hidden coves, 'Ellascapes' are designed to immerse you in inviting culture, nature and community. But the experience doesn't stop just there. When you return to the resort, our in-resort programming is thoughtfully curated, from sunset yoga sessions and immersive spirit rituals to live music, wine tastings, and art-inspired workshops. Whether you're exploring the island or simply enjoying this ambience of our resorts, you'll feel a sense of place, connection and discovery, and that's what makes the Ella experience truly special. Jennifer: Finally, am I right in thinking that Ella Resorts has got a particular focus on the UK market at the moment? British travellers have a longstanding appreciation for Greek culture, hospitality, and natural beauty. But more than that, they value quality, authenticity, and meaningful experiences – values that sit at the heart of the Ella philosophy. That's why we're placing a strong focus on the UK market right now. With direct flights, warm hospitality, and a shared love of discovery, Greece continues to be a natural choice for UK travellers. For us, the UK is not just a key market, it's a valued partner in our journey forward.
