Heat warning continues across the region with experts warning to watch for signs and symptoms of heat-related illness. The summer weather is upon us with a sweltering heat wave blanketing the region. Environment Canada issued a heat warning, calling the hot and humid conditions 'dangerous,' with humidex values making it feel like 40 to 43C. So what can you do to stay cool during the extreme heat? Experts say staying hydrated is key, along with wearing lightweight, loose clothing. Sunscreen should be applied with at least 30 SPF, and spending time in cool places, like a shopping centre or movie theatre. 'Seek cooler breezier outdoor areas with lots of trees or near water to spend time in and cool off,' stated Ramara Fire and Rescue. Heat-related Illness Additionally, experts urge residents to check in on others, especially seniors and those more vulnerable in this heat, for signs and symptoms of heat-related illness, including exhaustion, headaches, sweating profusely, nausea and vomiting, and anxiety. "If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink water," Health Canada warns. Signs of heat stroke include high body temperature, confusion and lack of coordination, dizziness and fainting, and being very hot with red skin but not sweating. 'Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911,' experts advise. 'While waiting for help, cool the person right away.' The heat warning is expected to continue through Tuesday, with relief on the way for Wednesday, with daytime highs reaching 28C. Related Articles

Edmonton weather: Clearing and cool after stormy morning
Thunderstorms ripped through the Edmonton region early this morning, producing some small hail in parts of the city. But skies are clearing and we'll see some sunshine for midday and this afternoon. Temperatures hit highs of 16 C Saturday and 18 C Sunday in the city and we'll end up in the mid to upper teens again today. Warmer air moves in starting tomorrow as daytime highs jump into the low to mid 20s for the rest of the week. Thunderstorms are likely in eastern and southern Alberta later today, with the potential for some severe storms east of Calgary. There's also a risk of funnel clouds in east-central Alberta this afternoon (those cold-core funnel clouds don't pose a huge risk of touching down and becoming a tornado, but the low risk doesn't mean a zero risk). A mix of sun and cloud for Tuesday/Wednesday in Edmonton and area with a slight chance of a midday or early-afternoon shower or thunderstorm over or near the city. We're expecting some showers and thunderstorms to develop in NW Alberta early Tuesday morning, some of that may move SE into the Edmonton region around lunchtime or early in the afternoon. The best chance for thunderstorms Tuesday will be in the Peace country in the morning and again late in the day and in the Red Deer region late in the day Tuesday. The possibility of a scattered shower or thunderstorm near the Edmonton area Wednesday isn't zero, but it's a fairly low risk. Areas around Slave Lake east to Lac La Biche/Fort McMurray, as well as southern Alberta look to have the best potential for thunderstorms on Wednesday. Toronto could see a once in a decade temperature today

CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter is forecasting the mercury to climb to 36 C at Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon and feel closer to 46 with the humidity. If the temperature does reach 36 C, Coulter says that it will be the hottest daytime temp-temperature reached at Pearson since July 13, 2016 (36.0 C). 'We're midway through a heatwave and, while we got to nearly 35C at Pearson yesterday, we'll likely get even hotter today,' Coulter warns. 'The high is forecast to hit 36 C, feeling like 44 to 46. That would break the old record of 32.8 C set back in 1983 at Pearson for June 23rd.' For the full forecast follow this link The temperature in Toronto only dropped to a low of 23 C overnight and felt like it was in the low 30s at 5 a.m. By 9 a.m., the temperature was back in the high 20s and climbing. The heat wave is expected to continue on Tuesday with a daytime high of 33 C that is likely to feel more like 42 with the humidity, Coulter says. However, there is the risk of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will bring more seasonal conditions with a daytime high of 27 C. 'You'll likely need the umbrellas for Thursday as well, as wet weather accompanies the return to more seasonable temperatures,' Coulter says.
