Delhi govt directs strict enforcement of sewage and effluent treatment norms

Time of India5 hours ago

New Delhi: Delhi govt instructed the DPCC to enforce strict compliance with the mandatory installation and functioning of Sewage and Effluent Treatment Plants across all relevant premises.
They are to conduct time-bound inspections to verify installation and operational efficiency, ensuring treated effluents meet prescribed standards. An E-Dashboard will also be developed for real-time monitoring, with bi-monthly reports submitted.
PWD minister Parvesh Verma issued strict orders for immediate action against the illegal discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste across industrial and commercial establishments and all relevant establishments in the capital.
Terming water pollution a serious threat to both public health and ecological sustainability, the minister directed all relevant departments to launch an intensive inspection and enforcement campaign, ensuring 100% compliance with existing environmental norms.
"This is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. Delhi cannot afford to let untreated sewage flow into its lifelines. No polluter will be spared. We will act, and act fast," said Verma.

The directives given are for all departments to conduct time-bound inspections across industrial and commercial establishments and all relevant establishments that are legally required to install and operate Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) or Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). Inspections must ensure proper installation and fully functional operations.
Strict legal action will be taken against any establishment found violating prescribed norms.
Penalties will be enforced under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, with no exemptions or delays. A real-time e-dashboard will be created to track inspections, violations and corrective actions. All departments must submit bi-monthly compliance reports to the minister's office for review and accountability.
Verma, in a post on X, also said: "Every day since coming to power in Delhi, we are uncovering the new truth, drains fully choked, lines never desilted, and zero groundwork done in the last 10 years.
This is the real legacy of the Kejriwal govt. 70% PWD drains desilted till now, so instead of lecturing us, AAP leaders should answer what exactly they did when they were in power," he said.
"Why were Delhi's drains not cleaned properly year after year? Why was there no long-term planning for flood management? Why were crores allocated to agencies like DJB and I&FC, but the city still drowns after every rainfall? CM Rekha Gupta is actively working, reviewing projects, visiting sites and holding officials accountable," he said.
Hitting back, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said with MCD, Delhi govt, NDMC, and DDA all under BJP's control, it has no excuse to pass the buck. Every drain in Delhi falls under BJP-ruled agencies. "BJP is exposed as Delhi reels under waterlogging every time it rains. Rekha Gupta and LG must answer for apathy, corruption, and negligence," he said. Any desilting exercise which didn't happen on the ground in the last 2 years amounts to corruption, which LG refused to investigate despite it being flagged by then UD Minister, he said.

'Whole of Ukraine is ours': Putin claims; issues 'last mistake' warning

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said that Russians and Ukrainians are 'one people' and, in that sense, 'the whole of Ukraine is ours.' Speaking at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin repeated longstanding claims that Moscow has no aim to destroy Ukraine, but said Kyiv must accept Russia's territorial advances if peace is to be achieved. "I have already said many times: Russians and Ukrainians are one people— in this sense, the whole of Ukraine is ours… But we have never questioned Ukraine's sovereignty," he said. "At the same time, the conditions under which Ukraine became independent were set forth in the 1991 Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, where it is clearly written in black and white that Ukraine is a non-aligned, non-nuclear, neutral state. It would be good to return to these fundamental values," Putin added. 'Stop Resisting Russia': Putin's Ukraine Reality Check; Tells Zelensky 'Don't Surrender' But... 'Ukraine creating problems for themselves' In his most direct comments yet about the northeastern city of Sumy, Putin said he does not rule out Russian forces taking the city, citing ongoing shelling from the Ukrainian side. "We have no objective to take Sumy, but in principle I do not rule it out," he said, claiming Ukraine was 'creating problems for themselves.' His comments come amid a renewed offensive in the Sumy region, where Russian troops have reportedly pushed up to 12 kilometres deep. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2 & 3 BHK Homes Near Padur, OMR Starting @ ₹72.50 Lakh* TVS Emerald Undo Though Sumy is not part of the territories formally annexed by Moscow, the advance suggests a potential widening of the war. 'Not seeking Ukraine's surrender but ... ' Putin's latest remarks also included ominous warnings to Ukraine and firm rejections of its Western-backed diplomatic efforts. 'We are not seeking Ukraine's surrender. We insist on recognition of the realities that have developed on the ground,' he said. While presenting Russia's position as open to peace, he demanded Ukraine relinquish aspirations to join NATO and accept Moscow's control over occupied areas. He also escalated rhetoric over Ukraine's alleged nuclear ambitions. Responding to a question about the possibility of Kyiv using a 'dirty bomb,' Putin called it 'their last mistake' and promised a 'catastrophic' response. Meanwhile, Russian drones pounded Ukrainian cities overnight, including Odesa and Kharkiv, killing at least one person and injuring dozens. Fires engulfed apartment blocks, with President Zelenskyy accusing Moscow of 'targeted terror.' Despite this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed new peace talks could be scheduled as early as next week, though Kyiv has yet to confirm any such plans.

'Can't express what it feels like to be back home': Indian students return from Iran under Operation Sindhu

"The Indian government has done a lot for us, I can't express what peace you feel when you reach your own country," said an Indian national, after landing in Delhi from Mashhad, Iran , late Friday night. The returnee, who had gone to Iran on a pilgrimage, was among 290 Indians evacuated under the government's ' Operation Sindhu ' amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel. The flight brought back mostly students from Jammu and Kashmir, along with others from Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, and West Bengal. As they arrived at the airport, chants of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' echoed through the terminal. Some evacuees were seen hugging each other, overwhelmed by the relief of being home. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Recover All Your Loss in Stock Market With This Superclass By Mr. Gopal !
