Ruché Moodley hopes low-key return puts him in good stead
Moto3 star rides through the pain at British Grand Prix after undergoing arm operation.
Teenage Moto3 sensation Ruché Moodley hopes to bounce back strongly in Aragon next weekend after a rather low-key return from injury at the British Grand Prix.
The 18-year-old BOE Motorsport rider suffered a fractured radius in his right arm during practice ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix last month. He had to undergo an operation which included a titanium plate and half a dozen screws. He watched the French MotoGP on television before getting the green flag to race at Silverstone last weekend.
Moodley kept a low profile at the end of the field at Silverstone. He was still regaining his fitness and served two long-lap penalties for causing the collision at Jerez which caused his injury. He qualified in 21st place and rode through the pain to finish 20th.

Ruché Moodley plays it safe
'We made a decision that I would stay out of trouble on the opening laps. If I crashed or was taken out, my penalty laps would be carried over to the next race. So I took it easy at the start and dropped a few positions on the opening lap,' Moodley told Double Apex.
'I took my penalty laps early in the race, on lap two and three, as I figured the field would be most bunched up then. I struggled later on because I lost a lot of feeling in my arm. It started to feel numb so it was difficult to feel what the bike was doing.
'I don't have the strength that I had before to muscle the bike around, since I could only start moving my arm in the week leading up to the race. It lost strength after being immobilised for three weeks.'

The Gqeberha-born Moodley made a sensational start to his Moto3 career by finishing 11th in his first race in Thailand to earn five points. He went on to finish in the points in three of his first four races before missing the fifth and sixth rounds of the season.
He is 23rd in the championship on nine points and is confident he can fight for points again at the Aragon Grand Prix.
'The plan now is to build up the strength in my hand,' he continued. 'I will be much stronger in two weeks when we get to Aragon. I am looking forward to riding that incredible circuit.'

Orlando Pirates register interest in Bulgaria-based attacker
Orlando Pirates have reportedly registered their interest in Bulgaria-based attacker Jaisen Clifford. Clifford is currently on the books of Etar Veliko Tarnovo but his current contract is reportedly coming to an end on 30 June. Now, according to Sportswire , Pirates have even written a letter to Clifford inviting him for assessment ahead of next season. Should everything go according to plan, Clifford could join the Buccaneers for their pre-season in Spain in the coming weeks. Clifford, 29, is seen as a cover should either Relebohile Mofokeng or Monnapule Saleng leave Pirates in July. The former Cape Town All Stars winger can play both on the right and left of the field, and he can also play as a centre-forward. Happy birthday: Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana legend Khune turns 38!
Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Itumeleng Khune is celebrating his 38th birthday TODAY, 20 June. Khune, who was born on this day in 1987, arrived at Chiefs as a young boy with big dreams in 1999. He went on to serve Amakhosi for 25 uninterrupted years both as a junior and senior player until 2024. Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs. Images via X: @kaizerchiefs At Kaizer Chiefs… Khune was first promoted to the Chiefs senior team in 2004 but he had to wait until 2007 for his breakthrough. It was Muhsin Ertugral who showed faith in Khune, and threw the then 20-year-old goalkeeper into the deep end. The Ventersdorp-born 'keeper grabbed that opportunity with both hands and never looked back. Khune single-handedly delivered several major trophies for Chiefs, including the 2008 MTN8 and 2009 Telkom Knockout Cup. He went on to become a household name in South African football, and was influential in Chiefs winning their first league title in eight years in 2013. In 2015, Khune nearly ruined his Chiefs career when he was axed alongside the likes of Tefu Mashamaite and Mandla Masango. However, he quickly came to his senses and apologised, and was welcomed back by the Amakhosi hierarchy. In July 2023, Chiefs announced that Khune's one-year extension was his final contract with them, and the beautiful journey ended in style in May 2024. He had won three league titles, two Nedbank Cup titles, three MTN8 titles, and four KO titles with the Soweto giants.
