THANE: A 51-year-old passenger injured in last Monday's Mumbra train mishap succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Thane city, taking the death toll to five, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Anil More, was a resident of Shahpur and worked in Kalwa. He was travelling on the footboard of a CSMT-bound local that originated from Kasara and was among those who fell off the train during the incident, which has left five dead and nine injured so far.
It may be recalled that four passengers had initially died and ten were injured in a freak accident after falling off two suburban trains headed in opposite directions as they crossed each other on adjoining tracks at the Diva-end of Mumbra railway station.
More, along with another passenger, had suffered serious head injuries and was admitted in critical condition to CSMH Kalwa hospital. He was later shifted to a private hospital, where he remained in the ICU for the past ten days. His condition remained critical and he passed away on Thursday morning, a hospital staffer confirmed.
His body was taken to the civil hospital for post-mortem, following which it would be handed over to his family by Thursday evening, the Thane railway police said.

Meanwhile, activists have questioned the apathy shown by the railway administration in increasing local train services to extended suburbs beyond Kalyan towards Kasara and Karjat. Services currently run at intervals of over an hour—far from adequate given the growing population in these areas.
'We have been demanding shuttle services till Kalyan or Thane from these far-off suburbs, which would greatly help reduce crowding. We have also demanded that Diva halts for Kasara-Karjat and Khopoli trains be removed and that services originating from Kalyan, Titwala, or Ambernath be introduced instead,' said railway activist Rajesh Ghangav.

2 years later, Minto Road's arched wall to be repaired
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to repair the arched brick wall on Minto Road. A portion of the wall was damaged in June 2023 during work carried out by a Northern Railway contractor. An NDMC official said the work had already been awarded and was targeted for completion by the end of July, adding that the council initiated multiple communications with the railway authorities regarding repairs. "As soon as the wall collapsed in 2023, we wrote to Northern Railway to get it repaired immediately in view of the upcoming G20 summit. But nothing happened. Finally, we did an estimation of the budget cost for repair work and issued a work order. We will get the wall repaired from our side and later send the recovery letter to the railways as the damage was caused by them only," said the official. The official added that the wall on the rear side of the damaged portion was constructed after the issue was highlighted, but the aesthetically developed front wall with an arch-shaped jail wall was still in a damaged condition, giving an ugly look to the area. Earlier, a Northern Railway official had informed TOI that they would take the necessary steps to repair the site, but there was no response about the recent development. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Audiologists: New $160 German Hearing Aids Sweeping Australia Top Trending News Today Learn More Undo The NDMC official said, "The deteriorated section presents an unsightly appearance at the Lutyens' Delhi entrance from the Minto Road side, which prompted the decision to proceed with the repairs. Thousands of commuters use this prominent stretch connecting Connaught Place and Lutyens' Delhi to central Delhi every day." Minto Road was one of the 13 roads that underwent a complete transformation in 2018-19, with beautification and theme-based urban landscaping implemented based on the available space. The otherwise concretised stretch was redesigned with sloped green patches, vertical gardens, arch-shaped stone slabs featuring carved designs in front of the boundary wall, and a large overhead panel displaying the national flag along one side of the Shivaji Bridge. These panels were illuminated at night, giving the area an aesthetic appeal.
