All you need to know about Scotland's T20 tri-series
Off the back of four one-day internationals against the Netherlands and Nepal, Scotland travel from Dundee to Glasgow for four T20 internationals against the same opposition. Having won two of their four outings in the longer format, Richie Berrington's side will be keen to find some consistency. Advertisement Here is everything you need to know about the tri-series at Clydesdale Cricket Club. Who's in the Scotland squad? Essex seamer Mackenzie Jones could make his T20 international debut having made his ODI bow in Dundee, while Chris Greaves and Chris McBride are added to the squad having missed out on the recent ODIs. County players, such as Lancashire's Michael Jones, Sussex's Brad Currie and Somerset's Andrew Umeed, are not included. Cricket Scotland said: "Several players not included in the squads were considered for selection but were not available due to work, personal circumstances or county commitments." Advertisement Scotland squad: Richie Berrington (capt), Matthew Cross, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Jack Jarvis, Mackenzie Jones, Michael Leask, Charlie Cassell, Chris McBride, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Liam Naylor, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt. What are these matches for? The main purpose of this series is to provide much-needed practice before Scotland travel to the Netherlands for the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in July. Two teams will qualify from the five-team tournament, which also features Italy, Guernsey and Jersey. The Scots last played official matches in this format when Australia visited last summer, having impressed at the T20 World Cup earlier in 2024. How good are Nepal & Netherlands? Scotland are the best side of the three, based solely on the ICC Men's T20 world rankings which have Scotland 13th, the Dutch 14th and Nepal 18th. Advertisement The truth is somewhat harder to gauge, given the lack of matches played by associate members in this format. In the recent Cricket World Cup League 2 series played between the three teams, the matches were tightly contested in the main, showcasing the magnificent cricket associate members have to offer. Nepal and Scotland played out two thrilling matches that went down to the final over in Dundee, winning one each, while the Netherlands bounced back from three straight defeats to chase down Scotland's 369 in the final match of the series. Players to look out for George Munsey and Brandon McMullen are Scotland's two best top-order batters and both have international hundreds in 2025. Advertisement Left-handed opener Munsey smashed 191 off 150 balls against the Netherlands on Thursday - Scotland's record score in ODIs - while Safyaan Sharif became his country's all-time leading wicket taker in the same match. Captain Richie Berrington continues to defy his age with the bat and will be playing on his home ground at Clydesdale. With the ball, 20-year-old Jones could be handed more opportunities given the strugglers of other Scotland seamers recently and Currie's absence. He impressed in his first Scotland appearance, taking 3-55 in the two-run win over Nepal. Liam Naylor and Chris McBride have both been standout performers in Scottish club cricket for RH Corstorphine and Carlton, respectively, and will want to force their way into the side before next month's qualifier.

Scotland set for 'hottest day of the year' after spell of rainy weather
SCOTLAND is set for the "hottest weather of the year" later this week after a period of wet and windy conditions. Temperatures across the country are expected to climb to the late 20s by Friday, as some areas could potentially reach as high as 28C. It comes after a period of wet weather which saw a yellow weather warning in place, and heavy downpours and thunderstorms forecast across much of the country. The central belt is more likely to see warmer temperatures on Friday, as STV weatherman Sean Batty said highs of around 28C are not "out of the question" in areas such as the Moray coast, Perth, Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh and East Lothian. Batty said Scots could see "the hottest weather of the year" so far and that temperatures could "potentially [climb] to their highest levels since summer 2023". READ MORE: Ignore 'hysteria' around Flamingo Land plans for Loch Lomond, says developer Writing for STV News, he said: "To put that in context, the highest temperature recorded in 2024 was 28C at Oyne in Aberdeenshire on June 24. And of course, the record-breaking summer of 2023 saw a scorching 34.8C at Charterhall in the Borders – the highest temperature ever recorded in Scotland. "Hitting 30C in Scotland is rare. In fact, it's only happened in nine of the last 20 years, and just 23 times in the past 85 years. However, some models are hinting that we could get close to that mark by the end of June, with further pulses of hot air possible." Batty added that temperatures in the evening could remain in the high teens and be "uncomfortably mild", particularly across the west Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Ayrshire and the Moray coast. Tony Wisson, a deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: 'Over the next few days, settled weather and warm sunshine will allow temperatures to rise day on day. 'Temperatures will then rise further towards the end of the week as winds turn more southerly and even warmer air over continental Europe will be drawn across the UK."

Rangers could regret January transfer decision as Gio van Bronckhorst signing tipped for big things
Millwall insider Murray Wallace reckons Rangers could rue letting Zak Lovelace go after the striker rejoined the English club in January. Gers seemed to have pulled off a major coup by trumping a string of Premier League clubs to the teenager's signature in 2022. Advertisement Lovelace became the Lions' second-youngest player in history when he made his senior debut aged just 15 years and 340 days. READ MORE: Rangers transfer news as big spenders join Matija Frigan chase and Vaclav Cerny loan terms 'revealed' READ MORE: Nilson Angulo breaks Celtic transfer silence as Paulo Bernardo set to make history with Portugal Yet despite being one of the hottest prospects in England, Lovelace's development at Ibrox was stunted by never-ending injuries. Still only 19, he was allowed to return to south-east London at the turn of the year after amassing just eight appearances in royal blue. Advertisement A knee injury curtailed his campaign but Wallace is confident the promising attacker can still fulfil his undoubted potential at the Den. Scots stopper Wallace - who has just pulled the curtain down on his seven-year stint at Millwall - told Record Sport: "It's a bit of a strange one because obviously he was at Millwall as a young lad and made his debut at 15. "The quality, speed and strength for such a young lad. I thought there's potential there. "It's difficult to judge him at 15 so when he goes up to Rangers, I thought it's a good place for him to develop. "It's good to see that he played a few times for Rangers in Europe and stuff as well which is massive. Zak Lovelace - holding the Glasgow Cup - was prolific for Rangers B side -Credit:SNS Group "When he re-signed, he only had a short bit of time then he got an injury and had to have surgery on his knee. Advertisement "So he's still recovering from that and hasn't really had a chance to train and get into the team. "He's been injured since he's joined so he could be one for next season if he kicks on, gets his head down. "He's still young, he just needs to work hard for his opportunity and take it when he gets it." If Lovelace can finally get his career up and running, Wallace reckons Rangers could live to regret not keeping the talented forward. He said: "Potentially. That's always the risk with younger players. "If they are not right for you at that time, then it's so difficult to keep them. "You see it all the time when players go out on loan and then they have a good season. Advertisement "They'll come back and start playing or just develop so much as a player. "It's all just about getting game time to develop them and if he gets his opportunity and game time with Millwall, then he could be a real top striker. "Of course, that could be one that they might regret. But it's obviously just not right for them at this moment in time."
