USA Today6 hours ago

Danny Wolf has become a popular name among Boston Celtics fans. The 7-foot forward is expected to be available when the Celtics are on the clock, as Brad Stevens has both the 28th and 32nd pick on draft night. Wolf, a three-year collegiate product, is the type of talent the Celtics have focused on in recent years.
In his two years with Yale, plus this past season with Michigan, Wolf ends his collegiate career having averaged 11.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He's also shown glimpses of being a multi-level scorer, converting on 33.6% of his 3-point attempts with 2.4 perimeter-based shots per game.
If you're unfamiliar with Wolf's game and what he could potentially bring to Boston's rotation, NBC Sports Boston recently released some highlights from his debut season in the Big Ten. The highlights showcase the versatile skill set Wolf could bring to Joe Mazzulla's rotation, should Boston select him on draft night.

MLB rumors: Cubs among 5 other teams Red Sox talked Rafael Devers trade with before Giants deal

The post MLB rumors: Cubs among 5 other teams Red Sox talked Rafael Devers trade with before Giants deal appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox shocked the MLB world last week when they sent Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster trade that materialized from seemingly out of nowhere. While the front office did a good job of keeping their trade negotiations under wraps, it sounds like the Giants weren't the only team they were negotiating with, as the Chicago Cubs were among several other teams in the running for Devers. Advertisement Tensions between Devers and the Red Sox had been boiling all season long, due in large part to his unhappiness with the team continually looking to change his position. Boston finally decided to cut bait with their superstar slugger, but not after discussing a deal with a couple other teams. San Francisco landed him, but the Cubs, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, and Atlanta Braves were also involved in discussions for Devers. 'The Red Sox say that they had conversations with the Mariners, Cubs, Padres, Blue Jays and Atlanta about Devers before dealing him to San Francisco,' Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported. How Giants landed Rafael Devers from Red Sox over Cubs, other teams D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images The Red Sox could have prioritized bringing in top-tier prospects in exchange for Devers, but they had a different goal when it came to this deal. They wanted to get out of the remainder of Devers' 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension he signed back in 2023, and according to Giants owner Greg Johnson, his team's willingness to take on that deal is the main reason why the trade went down. Advertisement 'If the Giants had not agreed to assume the $254.5 million remaining in Devers' contract, Giants owner Greg Johnson says there would have been no trade,' Nightengale reported. Even then, Boston still got a decent return for Devers, as Kyle Harrison and James Tibbs III both have a lot of upside in the eyes of several talent evaluators. In the end, though, money talks, and that was how the Giants managed to outbid the rest of their competition and bring Devers to town as they look to make a World Series push in 2025. Rockets Sign Ime Udoka To Long-Term Extension, Making Him One Of The NBA's Highest-Paid Coaches

Rockets Sign Ime Udoka To Long-Term Extension, Making Him One Of The NBA's Highest-Paid Coaches originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Ime Udoka's basketball redemption arc is now complete and lucrative. On the heels of guiding the Houston Rockets to a 52-win campaign and securing their first top-two seed in seven years, Udoka has agreed to a long-term extension that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA, sources confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania. Advertisement For a coach whose career was once in limbo after a suspension and dismissal from the Boston Celtics in 2023, this marks a triumphant turnaround. Udoka's extension comes after he led Houston to its best record since the James Harden era, transforming a 22-win team into a Western Conference powerhouse in just two seasons. In fact, the Rockets won more games under Udoka in two years (93) than they did in the three seasons prior to his arrival (59 combined). They also finished fifth in defensive efficiency, a dramatic turnaround from their bottom-five ranking in 2022-23. The Rockets' front office, led by owner Tilman Fertitta and GM Rafael Stone, had no hesitation when the New York Knicks reportedly expressed interest in speaking to Udoka about their vacant coaching position earlier this month. Advertisement Houston flatly denied the request and followed up by offering Udoka a massive extension, locking down the architect of their revival for the foreseeable future. The numbers behind the raise are staggering. Udoka's original four-year, $28.5 million deal started at $6.75 million annually. Now, he's in the eight-figure range yearly, which could net him over $40 million in just the next four years. It's a significant leap and a deserved one, reflecting both his tactical brilliance and cultural impact in a young, evolving locker room. The extension isn't the only major move the Rockets have made this month. They also re-signed veteran center Steven Adams to a three-year, $39 million deal and are weighing Fred VanVleet's $44.9 million team option. Advertisement Additionally, Houston has surfaced as one of Kevin Durant's preferred trade destinations should the Suns entertain offers, signaling that the front office is ready to capitalize on its current momentum. Udoka's rise is symbolic not only of personal redemption but of the franchise's rebirth. Once marred by dysfunction and rebuilding fatigue, the Rockets are now on the upswing, and Udoka is at the center of it all. His ability to instill defensive discipline, hold stars accountable, and mold young talent has completely altered Houston's trajectory. From a $2 million setback in Boston to a possible $40 million comeback in Houston, Udoka's journey is a reminder that second chances, when earned, can be golden. With their coach now locked in and empowered, the Rockets aren't just hoping to compete. They expect to win. 'I don't know about that': Why Quinn Buckner keeps Larry Bird high on his all-time players list

Quinn Buckner pushed back on the notion that Larry Bird would ever fall out of the top 10 of all-time basketball players. The national champ at Indiana who was a teammate of Bird's for three seasons with the Boston Celtics appeared Wednesday on the "Dan Patrick Show" to talk Pacers (he's the local TV broadcast analyst), and about an upcoming documentary on the 1983-84 Celtics. Advertisement Patrick suggested that some of today's stars could someday move Bird down the list of all-time greats. "I don't know about that," Buckner responded. "Larry has a uniqueness about him, but I'll tell you who is comparable," Buckner continued. "Larry has said there's only one guy he watches play. It's (Nikola) Jokic. (Teammates) play at a higher level for having played with them, because I did. I may be biased, but I don't this so. "If you look at pure basketball players, Larry is as pure a basketball player as you're ever going to find. There's nothing he could not do. "Larry's staying in the top 10." Quinn Buckner on Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton Buckner has watched Tyrese Haliburton since his trade to the Pacers, and has seen what he offers on the court, and off. Advertisement "He's a young man, but he really gets what winning basketball is about. It's important for him to share it with his teammates, and that's one of the reasons this team can run. Guys will run if you know you're going to get the ball. ... "That's why he can play with his teammates, and they're not jealous. He's not trying to take the limelight and carry it for himself." Haliburton had 32 points, 15 assists, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 0 turnovers in Indiana's 130-121 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night that puts the Pacers within one game of the NBA Finals. Buckner said he has also seen Haliburton's humanity up close. Advertisement "As a human being, when you're around him, he lights up a room. He wants to make sure everybody's comfortable," Buckner said. "I've always watched guys to see how they treat, if you will, the back office, the back room. How do you treat people there? This guy is the same with everyone." This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Quinn Buckner talks Larry Bird, Tyrese Haliburton on Dan Patrick Show
