As the official start of summer arrives, things are heating up in the WNBA.
The first returns from All-Star voting are back, with Indiana's Caitlin Clark and Minnesota's Napheesa Collier in the lead. Clark made her return from injury with a bang against the Liberty. Elsewhere in the league, the Phoenix Mercury are rising and on a four-game winning streak against some of the toughest teams in the league.
With all of that on the go, here's where everyone stands this week.

Caitlin Clark (22) of the Indiana Fever attempts a shot while being guarded by Jacy Sheldon of the Connecticut Sun in the first quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 17, 2025, in Indianapolis.13. Connecticut Sun (2-10)
Last Week: 11 | Upcoming: GSV (6/22), LVA (6/25), SEA (6/27)
Connecticut is still struggling on both ends of the court with four straight double-digit losses. Marina Mabrey and Tina Charles continue to shine despite the rough season, but that isn't enough to keep them out of the bottom spot in these rankings.
12. Dallas Wings (2-11)
Last Week: 13 | Upcoming: WAS (6/22), ATL (6/24), IND (6/27)
The game against the Golden State Valkyries showed the Dallas Wings' potential, with Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers lighting up the scoreboard and playing some stingy defense. When they both are clicking, the Wings have potential to play world-beater, but that hasn't happened frequently enough this year.
11. Los Angeles Sparks (4-9)
Last Week: 9 | Upcoming: MIN (6/21), CHI (6/24), IND (6/26)
After a resounding victory against the Las Vegas Aces, Los Angeles was mauled by the Minnesota Lynx and had their spark snuffed by the Seattle Storm. Without leading scorer Kelsey Plum (plus a wealth of other players) L.A. simply lacks the electricity they need on the court.
10. Chicago Sky (3-8)
Last Week:12 | Upcoming: PHX (6/21), ATL (6/22), LAS (6/24), GSV (6/27)
Chicago is finding success with Angel Reese as a point forward. She secured her first ever triple-double on the way to a win, but the Sky could still use a better perimeter attack. The team made only three triples in their seven-point loss to the Mystics.
9. Washington Mystics (5-7)
Last Week: 8 | Upcoming: DAL (6/22), MIN (6/24), LVA (6/26)
The Mystics are a team on the rise. Despite an influx of youth, the Washington rookies have taken to the W impressively. While Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are impactful, it's Brittney Sykes taking on a lion's share of the workload. Her four three-pointers against Chicago were more than the Sky made as a team.
8. Las Vegas Aces (5-6)
Last Week: 10 | Upcoming: IND (6/22), CON (6/25), WAS (6/26)
Vegas' roller-coaster start continues. The team has been without their MVP candidate and statistical leader, A'ja Wilson, who has been sidelined in concussion protocol following the loss against the Sparks. Without her, the team narrowly avoided a loss to the Dallas Wings and then fell to the elite Mercury and Lynx.
7. Indiana Fever (6-6)
Last Week: 7 | Upcoming: LVA (6/22), SEA (6/24), LAS (6/26), DAL (6/27)
Caitlin Clark is back. The dynamic scorer and playmaker led the team to the Commissioner's Cup championship with a big win over the N.Y. Liberty where she dropped a 32-8-9 stat line. However, she was hounded by the Golden State Valkyries hard-nosed defense, going 0-for-7 from three in the loss.
That means the team surrounding Clark is equally as important. Natasha Howard and Aliyah Boston make a formidable presence in the frontcourt, and Clark's backcourt mate, Kelsey Mitchell, forces opposing teams to pick their poison defensively.
6. Seattle Storm (7-5)
Last Week: 2 | Upcoming: NYL (6/22), IND (6/24), CON (6/27)
Seattle is one of the most well-rounded teams in the league. They're accurate from inside and outside the arc and stand tall as one of the league's top defenses. Gabby Williams stifled the Los Angeles Sparks with eight steals in a massive win.
5. Golden State Valkyries (6-6)
Last Week: 6 | Upcoming: CON (6/22), NYL (6/25), CHI (6/27)
The Golden State Valkyries are one of the biggest surprises of the league. Despite being an expansion team, they've shown resilience by knocking off high-powered squads like Seattle and Indiana.
Veronica Burton has excelled in the lead point guard role, sealing the game against the Indiana Fever. WNBA champion Kayla Thornton has been showcasing her skill set as the de facto leader of the squad, nailing a number of important buckets during the team's surge.
4. Atlanta Dream (8-4)
Last Week: 5 | Upcoming: CHI (6/22), DAL (6/24), MIN (6/27)
Atlanta dominated in wins over Chicago and Washington and narrowly lost to the Liberty in their final Commissioners Cup game, proving their mettle against the reigning champions. The team is filled with capable rebounders, playmakers and shooters meaning missed shots often end up as second-chance threes.
3. New York Liberty (10-2)
Last Week: 1 | Upcoming: SEA (6/22), GSV (6/25), PHX (6/27)
The reigning WNBA champions have had an up-and-down week.
The Liberty were overpowered by a refreshed Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever squad while playing shorthanded without Jonquel Jones. They then bounced back in a duel of Eastern Conference powerhouses and took down the Atlanta Dream but lost the following game to the Mercury due, at least in part, to another injury to the highly important Jones.
2. Minnesota Lynx (11-1)
Last Week: 3 | Upcoming: LAS (6/21), WAS (6/24), ATL (6/27)
For the second year in a row, the Minnesota Lynx are headed to the Commissioner's Cup championship. Napheesa Collier has solidified herself as the MVP front-runner and is in the top five in nearly every counting stat, including points, where she's currently standing tall as the league's scoring leader.
1. Phoenix Mercury (10-4)
Last Week: 4 | Upcoming: CHI (6/21), NYL (6/27)
The Mercury are scorching hot as winners of four straight, including a huge win over the reigning champion Liberty. While much has been said of superstar acquisitions Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, their rookies have been integral pieces, including Monique Akoa Makani, who scored a career-high 21 to lead the team to victory against New York.

Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham Turns Heads After Exciting Personal News
Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham Turns Heads After Exciting Personal News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. To say that Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham's popularity has skyrocketed among WNBA fans of late would be an understatement at this point. A testament to this fact is how the veteran has now amassed over 1 million followers on TikTok and over 740,000 followers on Instagram. Advertisement According to a report by Jacob Feldman of Portico, this massive development represents more than 700,000 new followers on TikTok and over 250,000 new followers on Instagram. This huge jump comes right after Cunningham grabbed all sorts of headlines for her actions in the Fever's 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun. That matchup turned out to be quite a testy affair between the two teams, with Cunningham getting herself involved in one of the most contentious moments in the game. Cunningham was ejected late in the fourth quarter for a flagrant foul 2 on Sun guard Jacy Sheldon, who, for her part, was involved in an earlier incident with Caitlin Clark. Fever fans loved how Cunningham appeared to retaliate on behalf of Clark after the Indiana superstar was poked in the eye and shoved to the ground earlier in the game. The supporters showed their love to the 28-year-old on social media, and the fact that Cunningham has earned close to a million new followers on TikTok and Instagram combined serves as proof of the same. Advertisement Naturally, the only way Cunningham would celebrate the big news is by posting a new dance video on TikTok. Cunningham's celebratory dance has since blown up on the social media platform, amassing close to 500,000 views in five hours, as of writing. The post has also drawn all sorts of reactions from the fans. "New Tik tok followers just paid her WNBA fine," a comment read. "Sophie!!!!! you are everyone's new favorite teammate, we love YOU," another said. "1 million followers and sold out jersey…what a time!" a supporter wrote. "Do not stop being the enforcer for the Indiana Fever/Caitlin Clark. Please don't let me down. I'm counting on you," demanded a fan. Advertisement "700k overnight is INSANE 🔥" said another. Cunningham isn't exactly a WNBA superstar, but there is no doubt that her status on social media has seen a significant surge over the past few days. As for her basketball, the 6-foot-1 guard is averaging 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.3 triples in 22.6 minutes off the bench. Caitlin Clark Assigns Blame After Fever's Loss to Valkyries
Caitlin Clark Assigns Blame After Fever's Loss to Valkyries originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark had a forgettable outing on Thrusday night as the Indiana Fever suffered a disappointing 88-77 loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Advertisement The Fever star was held to just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds, nine assists, a steal and, for just the second time in her WNBA career, zero three-pointers. Clark also committed a team-high six turnovers in this one, which is one of the main issues the 23-year-old emphasized during her postgame press conference. 'I think we get these leads, we get up 10, we get up 12, and I thought that's where we really grew versus [the Connecticut Sun], we really took a step forward and kept our foot on the gas and built out our lead and got it up to 20,' Clark said, via Chloe Peterson of IndyStar. 'I thought we were kind of in the phase of not (giving up those leads) anymore. And then we got our lead to 12 (against the Valkyries), and then we kind of go on a stretch of turning the ball over… We got to be able to grow in that area.' Golden State Valkyries guard Veronica Burton (left) blocks a shot by Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) with guard Tiffany Hayes (right). Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images As Clark said in her statement, it was Indiana's inability to take care of their lead that led to their downfall against Golden State. According to the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, this was brought about by the turnovers they committed, particularly during crucial stretches in the game. Advertisement The Fever entered the fourth quarter with a 59-55 lead, and it looked like they were primed to take their third straight win. The Valkyries, however, came out firing in the fourth, and ended up outscoring Indiana, 33-18, in the final frame. The silver lining here is that Clark and the Fever are well aware of the main issue that led to their loss on Thursday, which means that this is an area that they can focus on and improve at in their next games. Luke Weaver allows go-ahead homer in Yankees' 5-3 loss to Orioles after being activated from IL
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Luke Weaver felt fine about everything in his return for the New York Yankees — except the fastball Ramon Urias hit for a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning. Weaver was activated from the injured list Friday, but his first game back from a strained left hamstring was spoiled when Urías poked a full-count 96.4 mph fastball into the first row of the right field seats for the Baltimore Orioles. 'I feel great,' Weaver said after taking the loss in the Yankees' 5-3 defeat. 'The only thing that hurts is my heart and mind. So, at the end of the day, my leg feels great. The velocity's there. All the pitches are there. So, I had everything I needed to be successful. It's just a game which (it) didn't happen.' After jogging in from the bullpen to the 'Imperial March' from Star Wars and Gary Wright's 'Dreamweaver,' Weaver got ahead with his fastball and changeup. He threw two changeups to even the count and another fastball for a full-count. On the next pitch, Urías hit a 337-foot jump that just went over the leaping try of Aaron Judge and deflected off a fan's shirt in the first row. Following the homer, Weaver struck out Colton Cowser but walked Gary Sanchez and allowed a single to pinch-hitter Ryan O'Hearn. After Dylan Carlson lined out, Tim Hill allowed a RBI single to pinch-hitter Gunnar Henderson. Weaver gave up two runs and two hits in two-thirds of an inning. It was the third homer allowed in 25 appearances for the right-hander, who missed 17 games. 'I don't think that far off,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Weaver. 'They just took advantage of some pitches.' Weaver was injured while warming up before a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 1 at Dodger Stadium. After being placed on the injured list, the Yankees thought Weaver might be out until early July or through the All-Star break. Instead, Weaver began feeling better quickly and said the pain disappeared shortly after the injury. He took his final steps in his rehab by throwing a simulated game Tuesday after throwing three side sessions. Weaver has a 1.71 ERA with eight saves in nine opportunities in 25 appearances. He ascended into the closer's role by converting six saves in seven chances after Devin Williams posted an 11.25 ERA in his first 10 appearances and was removed from that spot on April 27. 'I kind of look at (it) with him and Devin like we got two elite guys back there, obviously with how well Devin's been throwing the ball the last month,' Boone said Friday before the game. A 31-year-old who can become a free agent after the season, Weaver supplanted Clay Holmes as closer last September. From May 20-22, Weaver became the first Yankees pitcher to make appearance on three consecutive regular-season days since Aroldis Chapman in September 2021 — though Weaver's first outing in that stretch lasted just two pitches, and the three totaled 18. Williams converted all four save chances while Weaver was injured and has a 1.76 ERA in his last 16 appearances since May 5. The Yankees cleared room for Weaver by optioning Jayvien Sandridge to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre. Sandridge was called up Thursday when Yerry De los Santos went on the injured list with right elbow discomfort. ___ AP MLB: recommended
