The administration has reinstated scholarships for students from families with annual incomes up to Rs 3 lakh—an initiative that had previously been discontinued.Recognising the importance of accessible education, the government has launched a plan within its first 100 days to provide free coaching for entrance exams like NEET and CUET. Additionally, 75 CM Shri Schools will be opened under the Antyodaya initiative to ensure that underprivileged children have access to quality education.Technology integration is also underway: 250 government schools will soon be equipped with digital libraries and modern learning tools. Uttarakhand panchayat polls in two phases from July 10, results on July 19
Dehradun: Voting for the three-tier panchayat elections in 12 districts of Uttarakhand will be held in two phases on July 10 and 15, with results to be declared on July 19. The state election commission issued the poll notification on Friday, enforcing the model code of conduct in rural areas. Commissioner of state election commission Sushil Kumar said the notification will be issued by all district magistrates on June 23. Nominations will be accepted from June 25 to 28, with scrutiny scheduled from June 29 to July 1. Candidates can withdraw nominations on July 2. The symbol allocation for the first phase will be held on July 3, with voting from 8am to 5pm on July 10. For the second phase, the symbol allocation will take place on July 8, and voting will be conducted on July 15. Counting of votes for both phases will be held on July 19. Kumar said, "There are 47.7 lakh voters, out of which 24.6 lakh are male and 23.1 lakh female. For the first time in panchayat elections in the state, the category of Others has been added to the voter list. A total of 374 voters are enrolled in this category." In 2019, the voter count stood at 43.2 lakh, indicating an increase of 4.5 lakh voters. Polling will be held in 89 development blocks to elect 66,418 representatives — including 55,587 gram panchayat members, 7,499 pradhans, 2,974 block members and 358 zila panchayat members. A deployment of 95,909 govt employees and 5,620 vehicles has been arranged for poll duty. Ballot papers will be used in the elections. The colour codes for ballot papers will be: white for gram panchayat members, green for pradhan, blue for block development committee members and pink for zila panchayat members. The spending limit for candidates has been capped at Rs 10,000 for gram panchayat members, Rs 75,000 for pradhan and block development committee members, and Rs 2 lakh for zila panchayat members. In May, Uttarakhand high court had directed the state govt to finalise the election schedule, noting the continued appointment of outgoing panchayat heads as administrators instead of holding polls on time. Under the 73rd constitutional amendment, panchayat elections must be held every five years, with mandatory seat reservations for women and marginalised communities.

Agra: ASI waives off entry fee for Taj Mahal on International Yoga Day
Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 21 (ANI): On the ocassion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, which is being celebrated on Saturday, entry to the iconic Agra's Taj Mahal is completely free. The Archaeological Survey of India, which is responsible for maintaining ancient monuments and archaeological sites, has waived the entry fee for the Taj Mahal. The ASI typically waives the entry fee to the Taj Mahal on special occasions such as World Heritage Day, celebrated on April 18th, and during Urs, Shah Jahan's death anniversary. But on the eve of International Day of Yoga, they have made entry to the Taj Mahal free, bringing cultural and wellness together. Along with the Taj Mahal, entry to several other historical monuments, such as Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Sikandra, and Etmad-ud-Daula, is free. On the International Day of Yoga, people are participating in yoga events all over India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Yoga in in Visakhapatnam and urged the international community to embrace 'inner peace' as a 'global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility. Speaking at the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations, the Prime Minister called upon countries to adopt yoga not just as a personal or cultural practice, but as a unifying force for humanity. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also joined the International Day of Yoga and performed Yoga in Gorakhpur on Saturday. While addressing the public, Yogi Adityanath said, 'Today, Yoga Day is being celebrated in Gorakhpur. The local minister, MPs, other public representatives, and all the brothers and sisters here are participating. I welcome everyone. This program is happening not just here, but across the country and the world. In Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spreading the message of yoga. On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, I send my warm wishes to everyone.' Yogi said that yoga builds spiritual strength and is India's gift to the world. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for getting global recognition for yoga. He also wished everyone good health and happiness on the occasion. New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): BJP leader Amit Malviya on Saturday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's criticism of the 'Make in India' initiative, and said that India's manufacturing sector is growing strongly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amit Malviya said India is now the world's second-largest mobile phone maker, growing from just 2 factories in 2014 to over 300 today. He added that the PLI scheme brought in Rs 10,905 crore in investments, with total production of Rs 7.15 lakh crore and exports of Rs 3.9 lakh crore, proving Rahul Gandhi's claims wrong. In a post on X, Amit Malviya wrote, 'Rahul Gandhi claims that manufacturing is collapsing under Modi's 'Make in India'. Let's bust the myths with facts. India is now the world's 2nd largest mobile phone producer. From just 2 mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 300 today. The so-called 'failed' PLI scheme, as labelled by Rahul Gandhi, has led to: Cumulative investments of 10,905 crore, Total production worth 7.15 lakh crore, Exports of 3.9 lakh crore, Electronics production value rose from 18,900 crore (FY14) to 4,22,000 crore (FY24).' 'Mobile phone exports surged 77-fold from 1,566 crore (2014-15) to 1.2 lakh crore (2023-24), 99.2% of mobile phones sold in India are now made in India, up from just 26% in 2014-15. Under the PLI scheme for electronics alone, 1,39,670 direct jobs have already been created. 1.8 lakh new companies were registered in 2023-24, marking a 16% increase over the previous year. Electronics exports hit USD 38+ billion in FY24-25, a 32% year-on-year increase. PLI allocations for electronics rose from 5,747 crore (FY24-25) to 8,885 crore (FY25-26) a clear signal of continued commitment,' the post reads. Malviya said that under PM Modi, India has transformed from an importer to a global manufacturing powerhouse. He said the government has approved major semiconductor projects worth Rs 1.52 lakh crore and that electronics production is expected to reach USD 300 billion by 2026. He dismissed Rahul Gandhi's criticism as outdated and said India is growing, building, and leading in the tech and manufacturing sectors. 'The government has approved landmark semiconductor projects worth 1.52 lakh crore, a critical leap into deep-tech manufacturing. Overall, electronics production is projected to reach USD 300 billion by 2026. Under PM Modi, India has transformed from an importer to a global manufacturing powerhouse. Earlier in the day, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that despite promises of a 'Make in India' factory boom, manufacturing in the country is at a record low and youth unemployment is very high. Gandhi questioned the effectiveness of the 'Make in India' initiative, highlighting that manufacturing in the country has fallen to a record low of 14 per cent of the economy since 2014. (ANI)
