Daily Mirror5 days ago

In this Wednesday's Mirror Daily Digest, we've pulled together the biggest stories of the day from Kate Middleton missing Royal Ascot to a British mum dying of rabies and ITV brutally axing a Loose Women star
Welcome to the Mirror's Daily Digest, where we pull together all the best stories of the day from our News, Showbiz, Sport teams and more. This Wednesday, we're featuring everything from Princess Kate's cancer update after pulling out of Royal Ascot to a mum dying of rabies she caught abroad and a Loose Women star's 'devastation'.
It had been expected that Kate Middleton would join Prince William at Royal Ascot today, however, it was confirmed that she would miss the event as she continues her gradual return to duties following her cancer treatment. Elsewhere, a Brit mum has died from rabies after being scratched by a puppy in Morocco and Nadia Sawalha has shared her heartbreak after her co-star was axed.

Earlier this Wednesday, our Royal team broke the news that the Princess of Wales had pulled out of an appearance at the Royal Ascot despite being expected to attend. Kate appeared to drop out of the second day of the race meeting as she continues to find the right balance following her cancer treatment
The princess was said to be disappointed at not attending the famous social and sporting occasion in Berkshire with her husband and the King and Queen. Racegoers had been hoping to see Kate as Prince William is named as one of the figures awarding race prizes during the second day of the meet.
Her name had also been included in the official programme as taking part in today's carriage procession in the second carriage alongside William. But just minutes after the carriage list had been released, Kensington Palace confirmed she would not be there.
Brit mum dies of rabies in UK after being scratched by stray puppy on holiday
Since the news broke of a Brit dying of rabies earlier this Wednesday, our news team have been tracking down full details of the heartbreaking story. The mum, who contracted the disease after being scratched "very slightly" by a puppy in Morocco, has now been named and pictured.

Yvonne Ford, from Barnsley, was diagnosed in Yorkshire and The Humber after returning home from the trip and developing mild symptoms that eventually worsened, resulting in her losing her ability to walk, talk and swallow. Her devastated loved-ones wrote in a post on Facebook: "Our family is still processing this unimaginable loss, but we are choosing to speak up in the hope of preventing this from happening to others. Yvonne Ford, Ron Ford's wife and our Mum, died of rabies.
"She was scratched very slightly by a puppy in Morocco in February. At the time, she did not think any harm would come of it and didn't think much of it. Two weeks ago she became ill, starting with a headache and resulted in her losing her ability to walk, talk, sleep, swallow. Resulting in her passing."

Loose Women star 'absolutely devastated' as co-star axed from show in brutal ITV cull
ITV 's announcement of major daytime TV changes took many by surprise. However, after the news broke our showbiz team have been chasing down any further information of ITV regulars leaving the channel, leading them to break the news that Nadia Sawalha had revealed she was "devastated" to learn that a co-star and friend had been axed from the show.
Nadia, 60, opened up on her latest YouTube channel about how the changes were affecting her and how one of her close friends no longer had a job. Speaking with husband Mark Adderley, she said: "From next year there will be no Loose Women audience.

'I am totally devastated by this fact, I can't get over it at all. Not only because the audience is so important for the show, but also my dear friend Lee who I work with every day.'
Couple booted off Ryanair flight after money-saving trick goes wrong

A holidaymaker discovered that a common method to save money on Ryanair flights backfired - when he was booted off without a refund as he 'hadn't reserved a seat'.
Scott McCormick and his girlfriend Helena Boshwick, both 33, were due to fly from Birmingham Airport on May 1 to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for a week-long holiday and gym-mentorship event. Scott said they had not paid to reserve seats - which typically costs between £4.50 and £33 per seat - because it was a short two-hour flight and they didn't mind if they didn't sit together.
Everything went as normal, with the couple the first in the boarding queue. Then, a Ryanair staff member approached them and asked if they would step aside while the rest of the passengers boarded. The staff member reportedly told the couple the flight was full and that there was only one available seat left.

Premier League 2025-26 fixtures in full as 20 top-flight clubs discover schedules
After allegedly being 'leaked' yesterday, the fixtures for the 2025-26 Premier League season were released this morning. While the 2024-25 Premier League season only ended last month, eyes are now firmly fixed on the next campaign.

A sizeable portion of the calendar is subject to the TV scheduling gods so some matches will be shifted about. The timings for matchweek one have been decided, though, and there are some eye-catching fixtures.
Reigning champions Liverpool will kick off the new campaign when they host Bournemouth in Friday Night Football on 15 August. Manchester City's visit to Wolves headlines the Saturday, while Arsenal's first game comes in a trip to Manchester United.

Female party boat organiser plunges into sea as mass Brit tourist brawl erupts after rowdy thugs are booted off vessel

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the dramatic moment a boat party organiser ends up in the sea during a mass brawl in Ibiza. The wild scene, filmed by a shocked bystander, is said to have forced the party boat to cancel its scheduled trip. A woman, described locally as the party organiser, also unexpectedly ended up in the water. A witness posted the video on TikTok, with the title: 'English people in Ibiza' before adding, 'English people are so problematic'. When asked by other users how she knew their nationality, the witness replied: 'Because I was there.' A Brit in the comments added: 'English people are very educated, we are not all the same,' which the witness acknowledged was true. On Sunday, another explosive fight broke out in the same resort at the popular Marco Polo hotel. In the shocking footage, a man can be seen throwing a flying chair onto a woman's head as she's in the pool. A group of lifeguards and security attempt to intervene, but their efforts amount to nothing as the man is seen ignoring them. In May, an easyJet passenger was left petrified after a group of rowdy "drunk" Brits turned her Ibiza flight into a "nightclub". Spaniard Erika Barrachina claimed she suffered a "panic attack" after having to cope with "scum" passengers. Shocking moment chair-tossing pool brawl erupts at Ibiza hotel with tourist bashed in head and knocked into water In a no-holds-barred message alongside a video of the packed plane where passengers could be seen banging on luggage compartments above them and yelling: "Come on Ibiza", the Spanish speaker said: 'My flight from London to Ibiza was absolutely horrible. 'I was scared. A plane full of real English animals. 'Everyone standing, screaming, guys hitting each other, drinking bottles of alcohol one after the other and stopping the flight attendants from doing their job. Real hell. 'This video is the just the end because I couldn't film what happened during the journey. 'Before boarding the plane they were drunk and high. Taking pills and drinking alcohol at the same time, which I saw with my own eyes." She added: 'We don't want this type of tourism in Ibiza, they should stay at home." It comes as locals in Ibiza took part in an anti-tourist demonstration just over a week ago. 8,000 people took to the streets in the Majorcan capital Palma. Around 100 people with drums surrounded upmarket eatery Cappuccino Borne next to a McDonald's in the centre of Palma after their protest finished. Police moved in to ease tension as the demonstrators held up cardboard posters reading: 'As You Come I Have To Go.' The protestors also chanted 'The Streets Will Always Be Ours', Go Home' in English and 'No Balconing' in reference to the young tourists who have dangerously jumped from hotel balconies into swimming pools or tried to climb between balconies under the influence of alcohol and drugs. 5 Protesters shout anti-tourism slogans at tourists at a bar in Palma Credit: REUTERS/Francisco Ubilla

Benidorm return 'in crisis' after Derren Litten's divorce from star Jake Canuso

As rumours about a new series of much-loved comedy Benidorm continue, it has been reported that Derren Litten and Jake Canuso's separation is adding extra complications The return of iconic show Benidorm has been thrown into crisis after creator Derren Litten 'miserable' divorce from the show's biggest star Jake Canuso, it has been claimed. The couple called it quits in 2023 and things are between the producer and the actor - Lothario Matteo in the ITV comedy - are said to be tense. With talks about a return of the much-loved programme still possible, the news comes as a hammer blow to fans. ‌ Benidorm aired for ten series from 2007 until 2018. The show focuses on an all-inclusive hotel in Spain where the same family holiday each year. It featured the likes of Johnny Vegas, Tim Healy, Steve Pemberton, Siobhan Finneran and icid-tongued force of nature Madge, played brilliantly by veteran Sheila Reid. ‌ All left before the final series, throwing a return for any of the big names into doubt. That means stars like long-serving Jake were key to getting a revival off the ground, but the situation between the slippery barman and creator Derren makes things difficult, it has been reported. The pair officially divorced last year after living together in Benidorm. They even opened a bar called 'Matteo's' where Jake would turn up for guest appearances. Derren said on X last year: 'I don't really talk about my personal life here but the reason I've been a bit scarce on the socials is for the last 18 months I've been going through a pretty miserable divorce. So I'm obviously poor now. And you thought we couldn't have more in common then we already do?!' A source told The Sun. 'Matteo is Benidorm, he's the character that everyone wants to see. He's been part of the Solana since the beginning so for him not to feature in any future reboot, well it just would not be the same without him. Jake created one of the show's most loved characters in Matteo but with everything that's happened between him and Derren, it's not looking good.' Another insider said: 'Conversations have been had. The only way Jake will return is if ITV make him a huge offer, one that he could not possibly turn down. But obviously Derren is making negotiations difficult. He is the writer and creator and believes that he should make all the decisions - the fans would want to see Matteo, which ITV get. It's all become one big headache.' A spokesperson for Jake told the publication they were unaware of any planned return for Benidorm. But all-grown-up Oliver Stokes - who played Michael Garvey since the first show - recently appeared on Loose Women, alongside Hannah Hobley, who played mum-to-Coolio Chantelle. ‌ Oliver was looked after by his grandparents while on set in Benidorm playing the cheeky youngster who ran amok around the Solana Hotel pool. "I had to do a minimum of three hours of schooling a day, which was an absolute bonus," he joked. "But in a way, it wasn't really the best because I didn't really pay attention or do much work. Oh well, it was an experience." Oliver has now taken a step back from acting and works as a successful tradesman, explaining, "It got to a point where I just thought I wanted an income every month guaranteed, instead of not knowing when your next job is going to come. "I'd love to get back into the future if the right thing came about but who knows?" Aside from keeping busy with his toddler Archie, he is also an avid fisherman and runs a fish bait company called Active Baits. Hannah began by saying the show had received so much "love and support" over the rumours, adding: "At the moment, they are just rumours." The studio audience broke out into a chorus of disappointed sighs, with Charlene then revealing she had a statement from ITV regarding the return of Benidorm in the future. "ITV say, 'We've spoken to one of our sources over here and there's nothing commissioned yet, but we'll keep our fingers crossed'," she announced, giving everyone some hope.

Love Island star reveals ‘raunchy' scenes that viewers aren't being shown on screen

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A LOVE Island star has revealed the 'raunchy' scenes that viewers aren't being shown on screen. Cara De La Hoyde Massey won the hit dating show in 2016, alongside husband Nathan. From chats about threesomes to secret snogs, and one boy's confession that he'd slept with a whole women's football team, the 2025 series has been far from dull. And 34-year-old Cara confessed that there will be a lot going on that we as the viewers don't see at home. Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, she said: 'The things that came out in our series, I don't even think I can say! So on this series, there must be so much more they're saying that they're not even showing us. 'In fact, there are things they probably can't show us, because it's just a group of young people talking and having a laugh. We'd all do the same, wouldn't we?' Cara also spoke about the pressure the Islanders will be feeling, and how it feels like you've been in the villa for a lot longer than you actually have. She said: 'It's so hard because obviously I've been in there and the public haven't been in there, so they don't understand what it's like. 'Once you're coupled up with someone, you kind of feel safe. I think this year especially, they want to be coupled up because it makes them feel safer as they're just letting people go left, right and centre.' She also said Meg's behaviour towards Malisha in the Dejon love triangle 'wasn't right,' but defended her by adding: 'I understand why people's reactions are sometimes so big because you're just in a bubble. 'We watch the show for an hour and then go away and we have our normal life, but for everyone in there, that is literally all that consumes their day. They've got no contact with the outside world and can't move away from these situations.' 'Most sex-obsessed Love Islander ever' called out by fans after making shock claim And things are only about to get even more dramatic in the villa, with four new bombshells heading in and going straight for a saucy sleepover. Lobe Island's four new bombshells have already left the villa in the series' latest chaotic twist - but they've not gone far, and they're not alone. The Sun can reveal the newbies have taken four OG's with them to the Casa Amor villa for a sleepover. Last summer, the same twist saw Joey Essex and Grace Jackson hook up in steamy scenes - and producers are hoping for more of the same from 2025's Islanders. Whilst we are keeping shtum on which of the OGs are selected for the saucy stopover, we can reveal that their choices leave their partners' losing their heads back at the main villa. A source said: 'The saucy sleepover worked brilliantly last year and bosses felt now was the perfect time to deploy the same cheeky twist. 'Dejon and Meg have just made up, Tommy and Megan and Conor and Emily are wavering, and everyone else is scrambling for a connection. 'The bombshells aren't playing it safe though and their choices make for brilliant TV.' NEW BOMBSHELLS The Sun earlier revealed the four new bombshells who are fresh on Love Island The first is Giorgio Russo, who is football champion Alessia Russo's brother. The half Italian hunk is known as Gio and, just like his England Women's and Arsenal champion sis, he's big into his fitness. Yet his villa entrance may well mean he will miss Alessia's stint in the Women's Euro's 2025, which kicks off on July 2. The other lad is Will Means, who will be more than a rival for Gio in the gym. He competes in Hyrox world championship races and has even done an Ironman. The boys are joined by two stunning girls. The Sun had already revealed that gorgeous blonde Poppy Harrison had flown out to Mallorca ready for romance, and now she's in the villa. She has set foot in the ITV2 matchmaking show compound after only calling time on her latest relationship last week. Last but not least is Caprice Alexandra, who looks to be another travel bunny. Her Instagram is filled with curvy bikini snaps from the likes of Mauritius and Morocco. 6 Cara and Nathan won the hit dating show in 2016 Credit: Rex 6 There's been a lot of snogging this series Credit: Eroteme
