Militant arrested; arms, ammunition seized in Manipur
'A militant belonging to the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) was arrested in Imphal West district of Manipur,' a police statement said on Sunday (June 22, 2025.)
'A large cache of arms and ammunition were also seized in separate search operations in Imphal East and Kakching districts. The arrest and arms seizures were made on Saturday (June 21, 2025),' it said.
'A total of 19 'demand letters', used for extortion, were seized from the possession of the militant, identified as Yanglem Sadananda Singh (26),' the statement said.
'Also, in a search operation in Mayophung-Sanasabi Hill in Imphal East district, a .303 bipod mounted rifle, seven .303 cartridges, two heavy-calibre mortars, 20 heavy-calibre mortar shells, two IEDs, four radio sets with charger, a pistol with three cartridges, 12 grenades and a bulletproof jacket were seized,' it said.
In another search operation in the foothills of Chingkhei Ching Phaknung village in Imphal East district, an INSAS light machine gun with magazine, an INSAS rifle with magazine, two self-loading rifles with magazines, a sniper rifle, a .32 pistol with magazine, six 5.56mm INSAS cartridges, twenty-one 5.56mm empty cases and four 9mm empty cases were seized.
In the third search operation in Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai hill range in Kakching district, an SMG carbine with two magazines, an AK-47 rifle, two single-barrel guns, one modified 9mm pistol with two magazines, three IEDs (weighing about 2 kg), eight wire detonators, and 10 PEK explosive packets each weighing 125 gm were seized.

During the search operation, police recovered posters affiliated with the banned organisation Jammu and Kashmir National Front and 20 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition from the said location, said the spokesperson. (File) The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Dar, police said, adding that he was held during a search operation in the Pattan area of Baramulla. 'Acting on credible input, a special raid was conducted at the residence of Mohammad Maqbool Dar, alias Javaid Dar, a resident of New Colony, Sariwarpora Pattan, in connection with FIR No 78/2024 of Pattan police station, registered under Sections 10 & 13 of UAPA and 121 & 121-A IPC,' a police spokesperson said. Spokesperson further added that during the search operation, police recovered posters affiliated with the banned organisation Jammu and Kashmir National Front and 20 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition from the said location. 'The recovered material was seized on the spot and taken into evidence under proper legal procedures,' the spokesperson said. The police has been conducting further investigation. 'In view of the nature of the recovery, additional provisions—Section 23 of UAPA and Section 7/25 of the Arms Act—have also been invoked in the case,' the official said.

AGTF nabs ex-police commando who joined Anandpal, Bishnoi gangs
Jaipur: State police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Saturday arrested a former Rajasthan police commando who joined ranks of notorious gangsters Anandpal and Lawrence Bishnoi and was wanted in multiple criminal cases across the state, including a firing at a hotel in Churu district last year. Churu police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture. Praveen Singh Jodi, 43, hails from Jodi village in Bhaleri police station area of Churu district. He joined the police force in 2001 as a constable and later served in the police commando unit in Jhalawar. However, his links with gangsters grew over time. He was found to be associated with shooter Ankit Bhadu from the Lawrence gang and was also involved with the Anandpal gang. These associations led to his dismissal from service on May 22, 2019. Following his dismissal, Praveen became an active player in the state's gang network. According to police, he supplied contact numbers of local businessmen to key members of Anandpal and Lawrence gangs, including to Rohit Godara and Virendra, who then used this information to extort money. A special team arrested him there. He has now been handed over to Kotwali police station in Churu. Police officials said Praveen was linked to the firing incident at Suncity Hotel in Churu on Aug 17 last year. In that case, two men on a bike fired shots at the hotel. While no one was injured, the attackers managed to flee. Hotel employee Manjat Ali lodged an FIR against unknown persons, prompting Churu police to announce a cash reward for Praveen's arrest. Earlier, AGTF had arrested another member of the same gang network, Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu Jodi, who is from the same village. During the raid, an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large cache of ammunition were seized from Jeetu's farmland.
