Ranchi/Jamshedpur: Timings of several trains running under the Ranchi railway division were rescheduled and diverted on Friday, due to damage to railway infrastructure caused by incessant rain since Tuesday across Jharkhand.
The operations of a few trains running under the railway division were also halted, as railway tracks were inundated and soil erosion severely impacted multiple railway sections. The Ranchi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express scheduled to depart from the Ranchi railway station was delayed by 2:20 hours, on Friday, following soil erosion on railway tracks. The train was scheduled at 5:10 am but was rescheduled to 7:30 am.
Likewise, Ranchi- Howrah Vande Bharat Express was delayed by two hours and the Hatia- Purnia Court Express suffered 8:15 hours delay on Friday.
Ranchi railway division CPRO Shuchi Singh said, "Considering passenger safety and operational requirements, the Ranchi railway division, has taken measures to ensure the safe operation of trains. Train timings have been affected due to tilting of overhead equipment poles due to soil erosion between Kita and Silli stations on the Ranchi–Muri railway section.
Repairing of the affected tracks has been carried out.
" Arrivals of several trains from major cities including Varanasi, Howrah, Purnia Court, and Patna to Ranchi and Hatia railway stations were also affected.
The Hatia–Anand Vihar Terminal Express was diverted via Tatisilwai–Mesra–Barkakana–Chandrapura, instead of its original route Tatisilwai–Muri–Kotshila–Bokaro Steel City. Ranchi–Patna Jan Shatabdi Express was also diverted through Tatisilwai–Mesra–Barkakana–Chandrapura, instead of its original route, Ranchi–Tatisilwai–Muri–Kotshila–Bokaro Steel City.
Similar situation was observed at Tatanagar railway station in Jamshedpur due to the water logging at the yard caused by the heavy rainfall. The trains which were cancelled includes Tatanagar-Barkakana, Tatanagar-Kharagpur, Tatanagar-Bilaspur, Tatanagar-Chakradharpur, Tatanagar-Badampahar, Tatanagar-Barbil, Hatia-Tatanagar, among other trains. "The work relating to the pumping out of water from the tracks in the yard is almost over and resumption of normal train service will commence anytime," said Tatanagar station director Sunil Kumar.

Roof of Jewish synagogue in Mala collapses in rain

The roof at the historic Mala Synagogue has collapsed in the recent rain. The central portion of the roof collapsed on Wednesday night, just days after structural vulnerabilities were reported. Steps were being planned by the Muziris Heritage Project to fix these issues. The synagogue, an attractive tourist destination, came under the care of the Muziris Heritage Project in 2017. Members of the Jewish community regularly visit the synagogue and the adjacent cemetery. It was renovated at ₹75.5 lakh one and a half years ago. Occurred at night According to local people, the roof was in unstable condition for a while. As there is a wooden ceiling under the roof, the damage cannot be seen from inside the synagogue, they said. They complained that despite writing several letters, the authorities did not take any swift action, leading to the collapse of the roof. The incident occurred at night, averting major tragedy. It is considered one of the oldest synagogues in the State and is the remnant of the once-thriving Jewish community in Mala. As an emergency measure, the Muziris Heritage Project authorities have begun covering the damaged roof with tarpaulin sheets to prevent rainwater from entering the structure. Restoration efforts Officials from the Archaeology department are expected to visit the site soon to assess the damage and chart out further action. Based on these assessments, restoration efforts will be initiated. MLA V.R. Sunil Kumar, who visited the site, directed the Muziris authorities to take urgent steps.

Two Vande Bharat trains will run between Srinagar and Katra via Banihal six days a week, except Wednesday. The train will leave from Srinagar at 8 am, reach Banihal at 9:02 am and arrive in Katra at 10:58 am. It will depart from Katra at 2:55 pm, halt at 4:40 pm and reach Srinagar at 5:53 pm. The travel time between Katra and Srinagar will be cut by two to three hours with the Vande Bharat Express. On Friday, PM Modi will also inaugurate India's first cable-stayed bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge.
