Strictly and Call the Midwife stars to swim with sharks in new ITV show

Daily Mirror03-06-2025

The new reality show will see celebrities tasked with completing hair-raising challenges in shark infested waters
ITV has announced the line up for its brand-new wildlife-meets-entertainment series SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters, and the casting is nearly as exciting as the show's premise. SHARK! is set to air this year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of arguably the most famous shark attack film of all time, Jaws.
In the ITV reality series seven well-known figures, including Strictly Come Dancing's Ade Adepitan and Call the Midwife's Helen George, will dive headfirst into shark-infested waters in the Bahamas. Also joining the cast are Sir Lenny Henry, comedians Ross Noble and Lucy Punch, McFly bassist Dougie Poynter, and Countdown co-host Rachel Riley. Each celeb will be tasked with facing their fear of sharks through a series of adrenaline-filled challenges they will have to complete underwater.

The series has been filmed on the island of Bimini, which is known as the shark capital of the world. Thankfully celebs will get the chance to slowly build up their shark tolerance by starting off with swimming alongside safer species, before progressing to hammerheads, bull sharks, and even the formidable tiger shark.
The show is being produced by Plimsoll Productions, who hope to blend entertainment with a strong message about conservation.
Alongside their nail-biting adventures, the celebs will also learn about the ecological importance of sharks, which play a critical part in keeping our oceans healthy.
A synopsis for the ITV show teased: "The celebrities will confront their greatest fear – sharks. Their first-hand experiences will provide immeasurable excitement and new perspective; they'll come to appreciate sharks' valuable place in our ecosystem, recognising that a world without these creatures is more frightening than one with them."
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, shared: "We're super excited to be combining the work of Plimsoll – a Blue Chip natural history production company – with the expertise of ITV Entertainment. SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime challenge for some of the bravest celebrities out there."

Karen Plumb, Head of Factual Entertainment at Plimsoll Productions, added: "The team at Plimsoll is uniquely positioned to pioneer this format that blends conservation with wildly entertaining pop culture.
"Our fish-out-of-water spin – delivering 50 years after Jaws – will transform the world's perception of these critical predators before it's too late."
As well as facing their fears underwater, the cast will be tasked with land-based challenges designed to push their physical and emotional boundaries, all while learning from leading marine experts about the threats sharks face in today's oceans.

Love Island's Harry ‘DISOWNED' by furious mum who says ‘I've never seen him like this'

MUM'S GOT WORDS Love Island's Harry 'DISOWNED' by furious mum who says 'I've never seen him like this' LOVE Island's Harry has been 'disowned' by his furious mum, who said on Aftersun: 'I've never seen him like this.' On Aftersun, host Maya Jama caught up with Harry's mum, who was quick to say: 'I don't recognise him, who is this child?' Maya interjected: 'That he takes seriously?' to which Harry's mum said 'yes.' She added: 'I do not recognise him. He just says what he wants to say and it just seems to roll off his tongue so easily.' Harry mum the admitted she'd 'disowned him' when asked by Maya if she approves of his villa behavior. 'On more than one occasion I've completely disowned him. Harry who? How can you forget the cameras are on you?' She also admitted to never having watched the show before, saying she didn't even know who Maya Jama was. Harry was getting to know Helena, but Helena was fuming to learn what had happened during a recent challenge, and wasted no time calling it quits with the footballer. Fans of the show reckon that Harry didn't lock lips with Yasmin because he wants to be with the brunette bombshell, but more because he wanted Helena to end their coupling as he has his sights set on Shakira. Speaking on reddit, one show devotee wrote: "Let's be honest, Harry never got over what he thought about Helena's lifestyle. Instead of ending it directly he wanted her to do it because he wanted to save face when he realised she heard what he said. Love Island's Harry breaks down in tears over Helena as he sobs 'she can't even be around me' They continued: "Let me be frank, When a boy thinks that about any girl they are never going to take them seriously. That is why he started messing around with Yasmin while still coupled up with Helena." And the theorist added that they believe he is playing the game to eventually work his way back to Shakira. They said: "Now that Shakira's in the picture, he's made it obvious that she's his priority but she was in the situation with Ben. Yasmin's basically been sidelined, and it's clear she was just a backup plan to keep him in the villa. "If Helena's lifestyle was an issue for him, Yasmin's boldness probably is too, he just hasn't vocalised it. He's playing the long game and was using people to buy time to get onto Shakira or the next bombshell." There certainly appeared to be something in this fan's intuition after Harry's behaviour in last night's episode. After his kisses with Yasmin were exposed, Helena ended things and he wasn't seen talking to Yasmin again. He did, however, make a beeline for Shakira, who has now called time on her time with Ben. "I wanted to see how you were feeling because I think initially you were number one for me and I kind of f***ed it," he said. "It's not even like the pickle I have got in with Helena. I just don't think I would do the things I do if it was you because I know you wouldn't stand for it, Shakira then replied: "It was you and it still is you but it's your behaviour for me that I can't tolerate. "Obviously it's not with me, which is fair, but if you ever did treat me like that, it would just be a f****** waste of time because I would never stand for it, ever." Harry went on to say: "It would be different if we were coupled up and I was getting to know people, I wouldnt have done it. "I have got away with so much with Helena already, I can just keep getting away with it, kind of thing." In the same reddit post, other fans agreed he likes Shakira but warned he will have eyes for lots of the Casa Amor beauties. 6 Harry's mum thinks he forgets that the cameras are on him Credit: Eroteme

Annabel Croft, 58, shares 'exciting' baby news - 'I'm looking forward to it'

Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft shared some exciting baby news as she discussed her love for her family in a recent interview Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft revealed she's becoming a grandmother as her daughter Amber is due to give birth to her first child with husband Hector in September. The 58-year-old said she's "looking forward to enjoying every second of it" as she discussed her loving family. While Amber, 31, is waiting to give birth, Annabel's son Charlie, 29, will be marrying Boodles heiress Honour Wainwright in August. Her younger daughter Lily, 27, lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with her partner of five years, Felix. Speaking of becoming a grandmother, Annabel said: "It's given us something so positive to look forward to." ‌ ‌ The former tennis player said all her children have "wonderful partners" and the family all love spending time with each other. 'I'm really excited to become a grandmother," she said to Hello!"When you have children yourself, it's such a whirlwind and you spend your life sort of treading water, and you don't enjoy the good bits. But now I'm looking forward to just enjoying every second." Television host Annabel went on to gush over her love for babies, adding they're "full of personality". Annabel recently discussed the death of her husband, Mel Coleman. She said Strictly Come Dancing"saved her" following his death in May 2023 from stomach cancer. The couple married in 1993 after Mel, a professional yachtsman, taught Annabel how to sail for a TV programme. The grief hit Annabel hard, particularly as she and Mel had planned to retire and downsize in southwest London. It was only when she agreed to - and lasted 10 weeks on - Strictly Come Dancing that Annabel, who won the San Diego Open in 1985, felt she could tackle her bereavement. ‌ Speaking to The Telegraph this month, the TV and radio host revealed: "I don't know what I would have done without being busy. I would have sunk... Literally within a few weeks [of losing him] I was on the phone to my agent. "He said, 'I've signed you up to Strictly. You're giving an interview tomorrow because they are announcing it'." Following the series, in which Annabel came fourth, the grief became less raw. ‌ The former tennis star said the pain now "comes in rain showers but they are getting less and then it's gone". She added: "I didn't know I had an incredible marriage, but I did." With Amber's pregnancy and Annabel's plans to move to a smaller house near the Thames, there is "so much to be positive about". "I don't want to be a professional widow. I understand that a lot of people can identify with what I've been through, but I don't want grief to define me," Annabel, who won Celebrity Wrestling on ITV in 2005, said.

But can the islanders take a smoke break during filming? Love Island is one of the most iconic reality shows of the last decade. The series is celebrating 10 years on the air this summer, if you can believe it. Since its relaunch back in 2015, the ITV2 favourite has become a firm fixture in the summer TV calendar. However while you may be intimately familiar with how the show works now - there are still some rules that you might not be aware of. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Viewers were 'convinced' they had spotted one of the stars using a vape during an episode recently - and were left wondering about the smoking rules. However it is not that simple and researchers from Haypp reveal the complex rules for vapers and smokers on the show and how producers keep a tight leash on the smokers' area. Can Love Islanders Vape while on the show? Viewers are loving series 12 of Love Island but here's why you won't be able to watch it on Saturday. | ITV The golden rule is simple: if it's on screen, it's not happening. Any moments of an Islander smoking or vaping are immediately cut from the broadcast. This maintains the show's teen-friendly image and keeps the focus squarely on the relationships. Despite some claims that viewers saw current contestant Dejon vaping, the object was actually a lip balm. ITV banned on-screen smoking in Love Island starting with the 2018 series. This change followed complaints from viewers about the prevalence of smoking on the show. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Designated area of the villa Forget sneaking a cigarette by the pool. There's a specific, off-camera area dedicated to smoking and vaping. Think of it as a hidden nook away from the main action, designed to keep these habits out of the public eye. One islander at a time This rule is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the show. Only one Islander is permitted in the smoking/vaping area at any given moment. This prevents Islanders from having secret chats, forming alliances, or discussing storylines away from the cameras, ensuring all the juicy drama unfolds where viewers can see it. Islanders must declare if they smoke or vape before arriving Before even setting foot in the villa, contestants must declare whether they smoke or vape. If they don't, they won't be allowed to partake during their time on the show. No last-minute declarations once you're in, just because you fancy a break from the cameras! Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Smoking and vaping consumption are heavily regulated It's not an unlimited supply. Islanders are reportedly allocated either a single vape or a maximum of 10 cigarettes per day. And don't even think about bringing your lighter back into the villa – anything to do with smoking and vaping must strictly stay in the designated area.
