Development in city moving at double speed, says Delhi CM

NEW DELHI: CM Rekha Gupta on Monday said that development in Delhi will now move at double speed, adding that whether its air pollution, water, electricity, the Yamuna, or roads—work is progressing across all sectors.
The chief minister, along with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, inaugurated an exhibition marking '11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government' and '100 days of the Delhi government.'
The exhibition, held at the BJP headquarters, highlighted the milestones and achievements of the NDA government at the Centre over the past eleven years. It also showcased the progress made by the newly formed BJP government in Delhi during its first 100 days.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Hardeep Puri said that Delhi now has a government with a purpose, committed to serving its people. He further said the Modi government has implemented several public welfare schemes in the past 11 years, which are widely known. The exhibition reflects all these accomplishments. Despite global challenges, elevating India's economy to the fourth-largest in the world is a remarkable feat, he added.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said the 11 years of PM Modi's governance have been truly transformative, symbolizing trust, development, confidence, and social upliftment. 'This golden period is steering India toward becoming a global leader,' he said.
'The exhibition also features the achievements of the Delhi government in just 100 days, demonstrating how a government can win public trust and instill confidence in development. The exhibition will be taken to every district and division to reach a wider audience,' he further said.
CM remarked that both the 11 years of the Central government and 100 days of the Delhi government reflect the visible work of this 'double engine' government. She expressed disappointment that the previous government did not acknowledge the Centre's contributions, including Rs 1.25 lakh crore for roadways and support for landfill site projects.

Corporate travel, MICE, live events to boost operating performance of hospitality industry: Report

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): The hospitality industry will maintain strong operating performance in the near term, supported by strong corporate travel, MICE activity, live events, and a buoyant wedding season, according to a report by Antique Stock Broking Limited. As per the report, medium-term growth of the industry is expected to be driven by sustained demand-supply imbalances and a healthy pipeline of new hotel additions. The hospitality sector has significantly benefited by the increased demand from the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. 'The hospitality industry should continue to deliver strong operating performance in the near term aided by strong corporate demand, MICE, live events, and the wedding business,' the report added. This growth has resulted in a sharp increase in Average Room Rates (ARRs) and occupancy levels. The sector is expected to be in a long-term upcycle, supported by shifts in consumer preferences, rising disposable incomes, and increased travel spending, say several experts. In the fourth quarter, the large hotel firms reported strong demand, and they highlighted strong demand visibility for 1Q and FY26 driven by large-scale events, concerts, conferences and weddings. The hotel industry executives anticipate the strong rate growth momentum to continue in the near term, as highlighted in the report. Several reports say that the overall industry is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.4 per cent from FY24 to FY29, outpacing supply growth at 9 per cent. India's tourism sector, rich in heritage, culture, and diversity, is emerging as a global favourite and a key driver of economic growth. Recognising its potential for employment-led development, the Union Budget 2025-26 has allocated Rs 2541.06 crore to enhance infrastructure, skill development, and travel facilitation. A major initiative includes developing 50 top tourist destinations in partnership with states through a challenge mode, ensuring world-class facilities and connectivity. As per the government data, the tourism sector's contribution to GDP regained the pre-pandemic level of 5 per cent in FY23. The tourism sector created 7.6 crore jobs in FY23. International tourist arrivals (ITAs) in India have rebounded to pre-pandemic level in 2023. The share of India's ITAs in World ITAs stands at 1.45 per cent in 2023. Foreign exchange earnings through tourism were 28 billion USD. India received 1.8 per cent of world tourism receipts and attained a rank of 14th worldwide in world tourism receipts during 2023. BJP's Nishikant Dubey slams Rahul Gandhi over language debate:

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nishikant Dubey slammed Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, questioning the motives of the Congress leader to encourage learning English rather than local languages while also alluding to the 'hypocrisy' of opposing the National Education Police (NEP) 2020 for language choice stating that the 1986 NEP had similar goals. 'Rahul Gandhi ji your investigative advisor is hell bent on destroying you, this is the education policy of 1986 given by your father to the country, in this, your father is promising the country to promote Hindi, teach Sanskrit language and translate English into regional languages. This same education policy is almost in place now. Students should also grow with regional languages, changes in this have been made by Prime Minister Modi ji in 2020,' Dubey said in a post on X in Hindi. He said that while countries such as Russia, China, France, Germany, Japan and, Arab countries were 'proud of their language,' the former Congress president is proud of English 'like slaves.' 'Russia, China, France, Germany, Arab countries, Japan, Korea all are proud of their language and it is developed, why are you proud of English like slaves, we are proud of Santhali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit,' Dubey's post read. Dubey shared screenshots purportedly of the 1986 NEP, which stated 'the policy emphasises the adoption of regional languages as the media of instruction at the university stage; vigorous effort at implementation of the three language- formula; improvement in the linguistic competencies of students at different stages of education; provision of facilities for the study of English and other foreign languages; development of Hindi as the link of Sanskrit at the university stage...' Dubey's post was made in response to another post by Rahul Gandhi where he supported people, especially people from marginalised backgrounds, learning English. He said that learning the language could be a stepping stone to equality, more job opportunities, which is what the BJP-RSS does not want. 'It is not an English dam, it is a bridge. English is not shame, it is power. English is not a chain - it is a tool to break the chains. BJP-RSS don't want poor kids of India to learn English - because they don't want you to ask questions, move ahead, and become equal,' the Congress leader said in a post on X. While also highlighting that every language is useful and beautiful for its culture, knowledge, and soul, the party leader added, 'In today's world, English is as important as your mother tongue - because it will provide employment and boost your confidence. Every language of India has soul, culture, knowledge. We have to cherish them - and at the same time teach English to every child. This is the path to an India that competes with the world, that gives every child an equal opportunity.' The Congress leader's remarks were in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks, where he said that the languages of India are 'ornaments of our culture,' and to understand the land's history, dharma cannot be done in foreign languages. The remarks by Shah was heavily objected to by multiple people, including by Tamil Nadu Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. (ANI)
