Girl, 16, charged with assaulting police amid unrest
A 16-year-old girl has been charged with assaulting a police officer amid disorder in Salford that saw cars set on fire and bricks being hurled.
About 50 to 60 people gathered during the disturbance in the city's Lower Broughton Road at about 13:30 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon, while two others were held on suspicion of drugs offences and theft.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with assaulting an emergency worker and has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
The force said cars were stolen and set on fire, motorbikes were being ridden erratically and bricks were thrown at officers, while wheelie bins and cars were used to block off the road.
A police vehicle's windscreen was smashed, it added.
A video shared on social media appeared to show a Fiat 500 reversing at speed along the road with its boot open, as another car followed it.
Supt Marcus Noden said there had been "no further incidents" since the unrest earlier but officers had "robust plans in place should any further incidents arise in the area".
He added: "We are aware of speculation online that this incident is linked to immigration. This is categorically incorrect.
"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and we took robust and appropriate action.
"A large number of officers will be remaining in the area overnight as a precaution."
Those arrested include:
A boy, 16, has been arrested on suspicion of theft and public order offences
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and drug possession
Two more men - aged 18 and 19 - were arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon
A dispersal order remains in place until 14:00 BST on Thursday.

One dead and four teenagers injured after a quintuple shooting in Milwaukee
Milwaukee police are investigating a quintuple shooting involving teenagers that left one dead and four wounded on Friday, June 20. Man arrested after fatal shooting at Utah "No Kings" rally released as probe continues
A man accused of brandishing a rifle at a "No Kings" rally in Salt Lake City that led to the accidental shooting of a protester was released from jail while the investigation continues. Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill's office said Friday that it was unable to decide on charges against Arturo Gamboa, who had been jailed on suspicion of murder following the June 14 shooting. Gamboa, 24, was taken into custody after he brought an assault-style rifle to the rally and was allegedly moving toward the crowd with the weapon raised, Salt Lake City police said. An armed safety volunteer for the event fired three shots, wounding Gamboa and killing a nearby demonstrator, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo. According to arrest documents, two designated peacekeepers saw Gamboa separating from the crowd, moving behind a wall, and pulling out a rifle, CBS affiliate KUTV reported. Gamboa did not fire his rifle, and it is unclear what he intended to do with it. His father, Albert Gamboa, told the Associated Press last week that his son was "an innocent guy" who was "in the wrong place at the wrong time." Utah is an open-carry state, meaning people who can legally own a firearm are generally allowed to carry it on a public street. Judge James Blanch said in the release order that Gamboa must live with his father and is forbidden from possessing firearms. ‘Warrants forthcoming' for brothers accused in fight that led to stabbing and shooting

Two brothers allegedly injured each other during an argument in the 4800 block of Sollie Road, officials said. According to officials on the scene, the two brothers began arguing, and one brother took out a knife and stabbed the other. The man who was stabbed then pulled out a gun and shot his brother. According to officials, both men were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. INCIDENT LOCATION: Police said warrants are forthcoming, but neither brother has been arrested yet.
