‘Sitaare Zameen Par' advance box office report Day 1: Aamir Khan's drama to open with Rs 6.88 crore; Trails behind ‘Laal Singh Chaddha'
Aamir Khan
's return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par has generated considerable buzz, but early figures suggest a quiet opening compared to his previous films. The emotional drama, directed by R.S.
Prasanna, has recorded advance booking sales of approximately Rs 6.88 crore for its opening day, according to sacnilk.com. These numbers fall short of expectations and well below the Rs 11.70 crore opening of Khan's 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha.
According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has sold over 1.15 lakh tickets across 9,542 shows nationwide ahead of its theatrical release on June 20. The bulk of the earnings has come from the Hindi version, which accounts for Rs 3.18 crore through 9,037 shows and 1.03 lakh tickets.
The Tamil version has contributed Rs 2.73 lakh across 163 shows, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 9.84 lakh from 342 shows.
The total advance figures, including revenue from blocked seats, push the cumulative total to Rs 6.88 crore.
Unconventional Release Strategy
In a surprising move, the makers have adopted a staggered show format for release day. A revised communication sent to exhibitors earlier this week outlines strict scheduling restrictions for Friday, June 20.

No shows are to be screened before 11 AM, and theatres are allowed a maximum of four screenings between 11 AM and 6 PM. Post 6 PM, normal screening schedules may resume. These guidelines, however, are limited to the release day alone — from Saturday, June 21, standard programming will be reinstated.
The decision to delay early morning screenings and cap afternoon shows appears to be a strategic attempt to create controlled demand and concentrate audiences during peak hours.
However, industry insiders believe this may have affected day-one revenue potential.
Box Office Projections and Industry Response
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in a statement to ETimes, commented that Sitaare Zameen Par may witness a slow start at the ticket windows but could pick up momentum with strong word-of-mouth.
Still, the film's day-one earnings place it among Khan's lower openers in recent years. While Laal Singh Chaddha debuted at Rs 11.70 crore despite mixed reviews, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to remain under Rs 8 crore for its opening day, even with late-hour screenings.
Comparatively, Taare Zameen Par, Khan's 2007 directorial debut with a similarly emotional theme, opened at Rs 2.62 crore but went on to become a sleeper hit through strong word-of-mouth and critical acclaim.
Whether Sitaare Zameen Par can mirror that long-tail success remains to be seen.

28 Years Later movie review: Danny Boyle's zombie film will make you cry with Alfie Williams' performance for the ages
Three films released in theatres this week - Pixar's story on loneliness (Elio), Aamir Khan sharing the screen with special needs actors (Sitaare Zameen Par), and Danny Boyle's return to zombie apocalypse (28 Years Later). And I can bet my soul nobody could have guessed the last one would be the most emotionally-charged tearjerker of the three. (Also read: Sitaare Zameen Par movie review: Aamir Khan's heartwarming film stumbles, then soars to score a basket in the 2nd half) Right from its promotions to its trailer, and even the way 28 Years Later opens, the Danny Boyle film is full of misdirections. We have been led to believe that it is an action-packed zombie horror led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he of Avengers and Kraven fame (that last one may not be the perfect thing on the resume). But the film is far from that. Yes, there is a post-apocalyptic society. Yes, there are zombies. And yes, there is tons of fighting and running around. But 28 Years Later is an emotional coming-of-age drama, disguised as horror. At its heart is 14-year-old Alfie Williams, who delivers a performance they will talk about for years, perhaps decades. As the title suggests, 28 Years Later is set 28 years after the events of the first two films of the franchise. Britain is a quarantine zone, overrun by the undead. The US and Europe seem to be thriving. But just off the coast of the Scottish Highlands, a band of survivors has built their safe haven on an island. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway only accessible during low tide. Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) takes his 12-year-old son Spike (Alfie Williams) to the mainland to show him the ropes. But Alfie discovers that his father has lied about many things, including the presence of a doctor. The 12-year-old decides to return with his sick mother, Isla (Jodie Comer), and ask the mysterious Dr Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) for a cure. All this while, he must navigate his own inexperience, his mother's hallucinations, and waves of the undead. 28 Years Later begins on a disjointed note, and the initial setup does test your patience. But technically, the film hooks you in really quickly. The cinematography by Anthony Dod Mantle and that haunting score from Young Fathers is brilliant. Mantle, in particular, brings the soul of the franchise back, merging it with a very Alex Garland-like visual style (the filmmaker is the writer here). The end result is an almost graphic novel-like work of art that may be abstract at times, but visually engaging at all times. The score is a delicious cherry on top. It may have been billed as a zombie horror, but 28 Years Later has less than 20 on-screen deaths during its near-2-hour runtime. The focus is more on survival, and Spike's crusade to find a cure for his dying mother. He is not afraid to fight back against his flawed father and even engage in some light arson to get his way. Alfie Williams is a star, one I hope gives us these performances for years to come. If Bella Ramsey was already setting the bar high for child actors in horror and fantasy shows, Alfie is taking it through the stratosphere here. Even in scenes with the legendary Ralph Fiennes, the 14-year-old steals the show, a marvellous achievement for someone that young and inexperienced. There is a scene right before the climax of the film where the young Spike must come to terms with mortality for the first time. It is a touching sequence, filmed with minimal background score and punctuated by Alfie Williams' breaths. Just how beautifully Danny Boyle has managed it was evident by the pin-drop silence in the packed Mumbai theatre where I watched the film. The only blemish on the film is the bizarre final sequence, where Boyle brings his Trainspotting goofiness in a Tarantino-esque fight sequence that honestly feels a bit out of place in this film. But that can be overlooked for 110 minutes of classic cinema. If Nosfearatu brought back good old noir back to horror, Sinners married the genre with musical in a stunning experiment. And now, 28 Years Later brings a coming-of-age tale in the genre. That is three films pushing the envelope in the genre in the space of six months. The golden age of noveau horror is certainly on in Hollywood!

Kuberaa Twitter reviews: Dhanush delivers ‘god-level' performance in ‘rare gem' by Sekhar Kammula
Kuberaa Twitter reviews: Sekhar Kammula's Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh-starrer Kuberaa was released in theatres this Friday. The crime drama, shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, opened to a good response from the audience, with X (formerly Twitter) users calling this Dhanush's best performance and the film a 'rare gem'. (Also Read: Kuberaa: Dhanush reveals he begged on the streets of Tirupati in character for the Sekhar Kammula film) Most of the audience reviews posted online call Dhanush's performance in Kuberaa his career best. One fan wrote on X, 'Only a very few actors on earth can pull off what @dhanushkraja has pulled off! To convince with getup is one thing , convincing with a completely different getup with the same mannerism is just god level acting!' Another called it an award-worthy performance, calling Kuberaa one of the best films of the year, 'One of the best films of 2025 easily. what a writing & direction man #ShekharKammula. he knows only one guy can pull of such a character in indian cinema and #Dhanush gave an award worthy performance. #nagarjuna sir was good,as whole a good emotional drama.' One X user thought this was both Dhanush and Rashmika's best performance, 'The lead pair @iamRashmika and @dhanushkraja. They outdid themselves in #Kuberaa. #Kuberaa is by far the best performance by #RashmikaMandanna and her streak of terrific performances continues. #Dhanush is terrific and it's one of his alltime bests.' One person called Kuberaa a rare gem, writing that it kept them engaged despite the 3-hour runtime, 'Crafting a gripping 3-hour-10-minute narrative without relying on typical commercial formulas like forced comedy, item songs, or over-the-top heroism is a bold move, but director kamula sir masterfully navigates this challenge. Rare gem in tollywood #Kuberaa.' One fan from Tamil Nadu was surprised how a 'random director' could give Dhanush his best, 'Can't believe this random director out of nowhere gave best performance of Dhanush and biggest blockbuster in Dhanush career #Kuberaa #ShekharKammula.' Another described what they liked about the film, 'This entry scene hits, and you know it's something special. This is the Dhanush & Nagarjuna Show. #Kuberaa explores the class divide with quiet intensity, wrapped in a haunting golden hue, the film takes its time, letting each moment breathe & in doing so, leaves a lasting impression.' One X user wrote, 'first movie of 2025 that i watched for 3 hours straight without moving an inch, i wouldn't say its the best but it definitely isn't like every other movie and kept me hooked. #Kuberaa.' While most of the reviews for Kuberaa peppered on X are positive, the only gripe people found was that the film could've been trimmed. 'The story by Shekhar Kammula is genuinely good, but the film could've been trimmed and made more engaging especially in the second half, near the pre-climax. Not to discredit the director, but the pacing made it feel a bit stretched. With better pacing, it could've hit harder,' wrote one person. Another thought some of Sekhar's philosophies were lost in translation and that Nagarjuna's role could've been better, 'First n Foremost 3 hrs runtime was engaging till end.#Dhanush, what a performer we have got. #DSP elevated the emotions too good.#Nagarjuna a bit disappointed for the role he got.#ShekarKammula had lot to say philosphically but did not translate into a Commercial Cinema the potential script had, Nevertheless DECENT ONE TIME WATCH!' '#Kuberaa is a watchable crime drama that has solid moments that work well in both halves, but, at the same time, is too lengthy with an uneven pace and a rushed pre-climax and climax sequence,' wrote one X user, adding, 'It may not hit emotionally as hard as Sekhar Kammula's previous works, but it can be given a try for its unique presentation and some well-executed moments!'
