Orlando Pirates chase Zimbabwean prodigy with Europe circling
Orlando Pirates lead the local charge, but they're not alone. Zimbabwe's brightest football talent has sparked a bidding war as Highlanders FC demand a jaw-dropping R15 million for teenage winger Prince Ndlovu, currently shining at the COSAFA Cup in Bloemfontein. The move has sent shockwaves through South African football circles.
Ndlovu, often referred to as the 'next Peter Ndlovu', has long attracted interest from top clubs, having previously trained with the Buccaneers in Houghton before a failed European stint. Now, with his stock soaring, Highlanders are playing hardball.
'Highlanders FC value Prince (Ndlovu) and that's why they are pricing him at around R15 million. The club believe it's a fair price looking at his talent, quality and future ahead of him,' a club official said, as quoted by Soccer Laduma .
The Bulawayo giants aren't rushing to cash in. Their valuation isn't just based on local interest, it's also shaped by serious attention from abroad.
'Apart from Orlando Pirates there is a European club that has been monitoring him for some time now. It's Sturm Graz from the Austria Bundesliga,' a source revealed.
This European connection could tip the scale and inflate the price further.
A R15 million fee would rank among the highest for any player moving directly from the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. It's a bold statement from Highlanders, and a sign of just how highly they rate the 19-year-old winger.
Ndlovu is currently donning national colours at the COSAFA Cup, offering scouts from across the continent a front-row seat to evaluate his explosive potential. Pirates are believed to have sent representatives to monitor him closely.
Will Orlando Pirates make their move before Europe swoops in, or will Prince Ndlovu become the next Zimbabwean star to take the overseas route?

Springbok Sevens ‘A' side crowned champions at Rugby Africa tournament
Sebastiaan Jobb (with ball) helped lead the Springbok Sevens 'A' squad to glory at the Rugby Africa Sevens tournament in Mauritius at the weekend. The Springbok Sevens 'A' side beat Madagascar 26-12 in the final of the Rugby Africa Sevens at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius on Sunday afternoon to be crowned continental kings. The South Africans had enjoyed a tentative start to the tournament, with pool victories over Nigeria, Zambia and Burkina Faso on Saturday's first day. But they grew into the competition with every passing match, also accounting for last year's bogey team, Uganda on Sunday morning. They booked their place in Sunday's decider with a hard-fought 19-12 win over Zimbabwe's Cheetahs in the first semi-final, courtesy of tries from co-captains Mfundo Ndhlovu and Sebastiaan Jobb. That match was an extremely physical encounter that descended into an arm wrestle in the second half but the Springbok Sevens 'A' side – a blend of youth and experience – held their nerve, to prevail. The exciting Madagascar side had beaten Kenya in their semi-final to book their place in the decider. Ndhlovu had been a potent attacking weapon for the South Africans over the weekend, and was arguably the player of the tournament for Phillip Snyman's side. His class again shone through in the final, as did Jobb's and Ricardo Duartee's, with 'Tricky Ricky' often living up to his name in igniting South African attacks and dictating play.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso sees a silver lining despite defeat
Miguel Cardoso Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was full of praise for his side despite losing to the German side Dortmund. Picture: Itumeleng English/Independent Media Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso sought to put a positive spin on the heartbreaking loss, insisting that there were key takeaways for his team after they succumbed to a 4-3 defeat against the German giants Borussia Dortmund. After the match, Cardoso expressed his discontent with the result but acknowledged the valuable lessons gleaned from competing against one of the top teams in European football. 'Losing 3-4 to Borussia Dortmund doesn't make us happy as coaches,' Cardoso remarked. 'But we saw good things on the pitch today.' Cardoso noted that while many would focus on the final result, the emphasis should instead be placed on the players' competitive spirit displayed throughout the game. 'Some will focus on the result, but we were competitive at the highest level of football in the world,' he stated. 'The boys made a wonderful performance; it was a hell of a match. I'm not happy but very proud. 'It's important people understand what was at stake in this match. Considering the level of the team that we played against, we worked fantastically. "I think it was clear that today we pushed the level of the game to the maximum, to the highest level, and we could play an open game with such a strong opponent. "It's important that people understand the quality of the German opponents so that they can highlight the quality of the game that was played today. "I'm very proud of the level of football that the players played. I'm very proud of the resilience they showed throughout the game so that we could finish the game playing for the result (a win). "We saw during injury time, the Dortmund players just wanted to finish the game, while we continued to fight for the victory. "We need to understand that when we play teams like this, they will penalise you with two goals from two chances. "That's why the amount of money paid for these players takes them to another level. Looking ahead, Sundowns will face Brazil's Fluminense in Miami on Wednesday. This encounter will be pivotal as they try to recover and solidify their standing in the group. A win against Fluminense could potentially secure qualification for the last 16 round. At the same time, Borussia Dortmund will square off against South Korea's Ulsan in Cincinnati, hoping to build on this victory and maintain their momentum as they aim for a solid finish in the group standings. Every point matters as these teams vie for advancement, making each upcoming match pivotal in determining who will progress to the last 16 round.
