PETALING JAYA : Flight operations at Kuching International Airport (KIA) were temporarily halted this morning after a runway incident involving a Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), which operates KIA, said the incident occurred at about 11.30am, forcing the closure of the airport's main runway to allow for the safe removal of the aircraft and clearing works.
'A notice to airmen has been issued, and the closure is expected to continue until 3pm today,' it said in a statement.
'During this closure, all flight operations at KIA will be impacted. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines.'
MAHB also said that further updates would be provided once the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia declares the runway safe for use.
In a statement, RMAF confirmed that an aircraft from the Kuching Air Base experienced an issue with its nose landing gear during landing after a flight from Labuan and Kota Kinabalu.
All crew members and passengers were safe and did not sustain any injuries.
RMAF will establish a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the incident.
